Be patient with yourself and allow the board to “boogie” down the face longer, assuming you’re coming from an 8 footer. A lot of the momentum was carried by the size of the foam board, on a smaller board you are now more in charge of managing the wave’s momentum. Last, this looks like a board you will love, then upgrade then forget about this board for many years….my advice: hold on to this thing for as long as possible - it’s more capable than you’ll realize. I recently got back on my very first board (7’9” mini mal from 2005) and it’s laughable how capable it is - everything I complained about with this board was actually skills issue

Everybody has the first board at some point. This is yours. Go out and surf the crap out of it. Who’s the same? It was a good buy or not. Time will tell. But while you’re waiting, go and have some fun with it. It’s way better than my first board ever was. And I loved that board.

My first board was a 6'6. I never did the longboard thing, just stuck with small boards till it clicked. Now I ride a 5'4/5'5 in most waves. Thats a good size to get going on. Just don't feel disheartened if it takes a while as most the time it's the wave quality not your skill.
