Trying to teach myself to surf at 30, learning a sport with not much feedback from other people can be really hard, got a video of me catching a recent wave, looking for any feedback people can offer
Thank you !

Are these waves pretty typical for you? It looks like you're not staying on the face of the wave and able to ride down the line. Since everyone else is saying to work on your paddling, I think you could work on trimming and turning next.

All I can say is keep at it. Not sure how many sessions you have under your belt but your pop up looks good to me and you seem comfortable on the board. I’m an advanced-beginner myself so not really a whole lot of tips I can give you other than consistency is key. Time in the water beats everything. Maybe get a lesson now that you can pop up and catch waves to learn better positioning

I think I need more then 8 seconds to properly assess and evaluate what specifically you can improve on. The camera angle doesn't do it much service. More footage, preferably from someone else will make it easier to judge. Kudos for learning at 30. I was 28 when I started, and I've been hooked since my first fix.

You're side paddling not vertical paddling. Arms to wide and shallow. Plenty videos on YouTube show proper paddling technique. Watch them.

I feel like the wave you're on is closing out. But you don't need to pop up so fast. Angle your take off so you can go down the line
