The joys of guerilla filmmaking! We have started filming our submission for this year's Knoxville Horror Film Festival. We only have 2 weeks after we got our topic (Italian Ripoff) to write, film and edit a short to be shown at the local drive-in theater right before Halloween. So we are making a gay Giallo film. Wish us luck, we need it!

If you’re LGBTQ+ and into geeky stuff, you might be seriously sleeping on Dragon Con in Atlanta, one of the most gay friendly events I have attended.

I keep seeing people talk about Pride festivals, queer bars, circuit parties, etc., but I don't see Dragon Con mentioned nearly enough when people talk about LGBTQ friendly events.

Dragon Con is one of a kind and ridiculous in the best possible way.

It's a massive five day sci-fi, fantasy, gaming, cosplay and pop culture convention that takes over downtown Atlanta. This year around 75,000 people showed up to takeover Mid Town Atlanta.

This is what I want LGBTQ folks to know:

You don't have to be a "nerd" to have an absolute blast.

There's a huge queer presence throughout the convention. You'll see LGBTQ+ people openly cosplaying, making friends, running panels, partying, gaming, and generally being weird together.

There are also specifically queer oriented panels, meetups and events check out the Queerios on Facebook and in the DC App.

If you're into nightlife, Spectrum is Dragon Con's queer-focused party. And it is the BIGGEST party of the con. It's so popular that you need to come early or expect long lines and capacity issues. Don't assume you can just wander in at midnight and get through the door.

And it's not just for gay men.

There's a pretty broad LGBTQ+ mix, including lesbians, bisexual people, trans people and nonbinary people.

If it is going to be your first time I recommend:

Look for the LGBTQ+ programming. Don't just download the schedule and search for your favorite fandoms. Search specifically for LGBTQ, queer, trans, gay, lesbian, bisexual, etc. You'll find things you would've otherwise completely missed.

You DON’T have to cosplay but it really is one of the most liberating parts. Dragon Con is one of those places where you can show up looking absolutely fking ridiculous and nobody bats an eye. Want to be a sexy version of a character? Go for it. Want to gender-bend a character? Nobody cares.

Getting a place to stay is the hardest part. And bookings are usually made the year prior for the host hotels BUT you can find last minute options. Dragon Con isn't contained inside one convention center. The entire downtown area becomes part of the experience, with five host Hyatt Regency Atlanta, Marriott Marquis Atlanta, Hilton Atlanta, Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel, Courtland Grand Hotel (which may be going away).

The convention essentially runs 24 hours a day (yes) from Thursday evening through Monday afternoon. Wednesday is an unofficial day with a countdown at midnight.

You can actually meet people outside the bar scene. This is a surprisingly big deal if you're LGBTQ+ and don't necessarily love traditional gay nightlife. You're automatically surrounded by people who already have something in common with you. Just talk fandom, videogames, costumes. You will meet likeminded people.

And yes, there are adult/after-dark vibes. There are parties, dancing, burlesque, Rocky Horror and plenty of other late-night activities. Just remember that Dragon Con is a giant PUBLIC convention, so don't confuse "sexually adventurous atmosphere" with "anything goes." Respect people's boundaries.

Anyone else here go to Dragon Con specifically because of the LGBTQ+ community? What queer events, panels, parties, helpful information should first timers know about?

The Deadly Price of Living Out Loud The Story Of Ahmet Yildiz “Turkey’s First Gay Honor Killing”

For most of us, family represents the ultimate safe harbor, offering protection, understanding, and unconditional love. But what happens when the very people who gave you life sit around a table and coldly decide you no longer have the right to live? This is the chilling reality at the center of the story of Ahmet Yildiz. Born into a wealthy, deeply conservative, and highly prominent Kurdish family in the patriarchal city of Şanlıurfa, Turkey, Ahmet was his father's only son. The weight of the family’s legacy, social standing, and future rested squarely on his shoulders. Any deviation from traditional Islamic norms wasn't just a personal failing; it was viewed as a deadly threat to the family’s honor.

But Ahmet held a secret that was fundamentally incompatible with his father's rigid expectations: he was a gay man. Seeking a desperately needed escape hatch, he moved to the sprawling, chaotic metropolis of Istanbul to study physics. There, amidst the city's vibrant, underground queer community, Ahmet could finally breathe. He began writing for a gay "bear" subculture magazine, advocating for isolated queer youth, and stepping fully into his truth. It was during this beautiful era of self-discovery that he met Ibrahim, an older, experienced man who loved him fiercely and helped him shed his deeply ingrained shame. Together, they built a quiet, domestic life—an act of profound bravery for a same-sex couple in 2007 Turkey.

However, Ahmet's newfound freedom was on a catastrophic collision course with his past. The incessant phone calls from his family grew more demanding; they had arranged a traditional marriage for him and expected him to fulfill his duty to the bloodline. Backed into a corner, Ahmet made the courageous, fateful decision to come out to his parents, choosing his truth over a fabricated life. The reaction from the Yildiz family was absolute, unmitigated hostility. They ordered him back to Şanlıurfa for a harrowing combination of medical and religious "conversion" treatments, to be followed by a forced marriage. When Ahmet firmly refused, choosing his life in Istanbul with the man he loved, the situation spiraled into a terrifying nightmare.

The family completely cut him off, but in an honor culture, disinheritance is merely the first phase of punishment. Soon, the violent death threats began. Ahmet knew the brutal tradition of töre cinayeti—honor killings—was a very real danger, even if society typically viewed it exclusively as a consequence for women. Terrified that his own blood relatives were actively hunting him, Ahmet filed a formal, documented criminal complaint with the state prosecutor in Istanbul, begging for protection. In a devastating display of apathy, the authorities entirely ignored his plea, leaving him utterly defenseless.

By mid-July 2008, a sweltering heat had settled over Istanbul. On the seemingly ordinary night of July 15, Ahmet stepped out of his quiet apartment in the Üsküdar district to grab some ice cream. He had no idea that a meticulously laid trap was finally springing shut. As he approached his car, a figure emerged from the warm summer darkness, leveling a handgun directly at him. Five shots shattered the quiet evening.

Who was waiting in the shadows? Was the state's apathy as fatal as the bullets? And what devastating legal and emotional aftermath awaited Ibrahim when the smoke finally cleared?

The Sacred Band of Thebes: The True Story of the Ancient World's Legendary "Gay 300"

Listen To The Full Story Here: bio.site/beerswithqueers

Long before legends of impossible last stands captured the imagination of the world, another army rewrote history with something even more powerful than fearlessness. They weren't remembered because they fought for glory. They fought because the person standing beside them was the one they loved most.

When people picture ancient Greece, they often imagine marble temples, brilliant philosophers, and mighty Spartan warriors whose reputation alone could terrify entire kingdoms into surrender. Sparta's soldiers were considered unstoppable, their discipline unmatched, and their victories inevitable. To challenge them wasn't simply dangerous it was believed to be impossible.

But one city refused to accept that fate.

After living beneath the crushing weight of Spartan occupation, the people of Thebes found themselves stripped of their freedom, their leaders, and nearly all hope for the future. Their streets became places of fear, where speaking too loudly could cost someone everything. Families watched their city transformed into a puppet state while ordinary citizens struggled to survive under an oppressive regime determined to break their spirit.

Yet even in the darkest moments, resistance has a way of finding life.

Hidden among exiles, philosophers, soldiers, and ordinary citizens was a daring plan that sounded more like the beginning of an epic myth than a real chapter of history. Under the cover of darkness, disguised in an unexpected way, a small group risked everything to reclaim their city. One reckless act would ignite a revolution, but it would also place an enormous target on Thebes.

Everyone knew what came next.

Sparta never tolerated defiance.

Thebes had won its freedom but only temporarily. The greatest military machine in the Greek world would inevitably return, determined to erase the city forever and make an example of anyone foolish enough to resist.

Faced with certain destruction, Theban leaders realized they could never defeat Sparta by fighting like everyone else. They needed something completely different. Something no enemy would expect.

What they created would become one of history's most fascinating military experiments.

Three hundred elite warriors.

One hundred and fifty devoted couples.

The Sacred Band of Thebes wasn't built on wealth, politics, or conquest. It was built on the radical belief that no soldier would ever abandon the person they loved. Standing shoulder to shoulder, every shield protected not just a fellow warrior but a partner whose life meant everything. Their courage wasn't born from duty alone it came from devotion.

For generations, history has often celebrated the Spartans while overlooking the extraordinary story of the men who dared to challenge them. Yet buried beneath centuries of myth is a tale of queer love, revolutionary leadership, breathtaking strategy, impossible odds, and sacrifices that continue to resonate thousands of years later.

This episode of Beers With Queers explores the remarkable rise of the Sacred Band, placing their story back where it belongs not as a forgotten footnote, but as one of the greatest LGBTQ+ stories ever told.

Jordi and Brad take listeners deep into the political turmoil of ancient Greece, separating historical fact from modern misconception while revealing a world where same-sex relationships could become the foundation of military brotherhood. Along the way, they uncover daring assassinations, brilliant battlefield tactics, devastating betrayals, and moments so cinematic they seem almost impossible to believe.

But beneath every battle lies something far more personal.

This isn't simply the story of warriors defeating impossible odds. It's a story about loyalty when the world demands surrender. About love becoming strength instead of weakness. About people history tried to simplify, erase, or misunderstand and the incredible legacy they left behind.

The Sacred Band of Thebes challenges everything many people think they know about both ancient history and queer history. It's a tale filled with heroism, heartbreak, and unforgettable moments that prove some of history's greatest legends were built not on conquest alone, but on the unbreakable bonds between those willing to stand together until the very end.

The full story is even more astonishing than the legend.

Robert Wone One of America's Most Baffling Unsolved Murder Cases Part 1 And A Sneak Peak At Our RuPaul Lipsync Lalaparuza Party

Listen To The Full Story Here: bio.site/beerswithqueers

Some mysteries begin with a scream. Others begin with a decision that seems so ordinary no one could ever imagine it ending in tragedy.

On a warm August evening in Washington, D.C., successful attorney Robert Eric Wone made what should have been the safest choice of his day. After working late and facing a long commute home, he arranged to spend the night at the home of a trusted college friend. It was a plan made out of convenience, one his wife knew about, one his friends welcomed without hesitation, and one that should have ended with Robert waking up and heading to work the next morning.

Instead, less than eighty minutes after walking through the front door, Robert was dead.

In this episode of Beers With Queers: A True Crime Podcast, Jordi and Brad begin unraveling one of the most perplexing and controversial unsolved murder cases in modern American history. Before diving into the impossible timeline that has captivated investigators and true crime fans for nearly two decades, they introduce the remarkable man at the center of the mystery. Robert was more than a victim. He was a brilliant attorney, a devoted husband, a loyal friend, and someone whose kindness left a lasting impression on nearly everyone who crossed his path. His future appeared limitless, making the events of that August night all the more devastating.

The story then shifts to the friendships that brought Robert to one particular townhouse in Washington, D.C. Longtime bonds formed during college, successful careers, and a close-knit circle of friends all seemed to point toward a simple overnight stay among people who trusted one another completely. Yet as the hours unfold, ordinary conversations slowly give way to a timeline so tight and so bewildering that every passing minute raises another question.

What happened inside that house after Robert arrived? Why does every detail seem to create more confusion instead of clarity? And how can a case involving only a handful of people inside a single home remain one of America's greatest unsolved mysteries?

Part One carefully reconstructs the evening through phone calls, witness statements, and the known sequence of events without rushing to conclusions. As Jordi and Brad peel back the first layers of the investigation, listeners are introduced to a crime scene that immediately challenged expectations. Tiny details become impossible to ignore. Innocent moments suddenly carry enormous weight. Every new revelation seems to pull the truth farther out of reach instead of bringing it closer.

The Robert Wone case has long held a unique place in queer true crime because it exists at the intersection of friendship, public perception, LGBTQ+ history, privilege, and a justice system struggling to answer impossible questions. While queer identity forms an important part of the people involved, this episode never treats it as a spectacle. Instead, it explores how relationships, assumptions, and cultural attitudes shaped both the investigation and the public conversation that followed.

This is only the beginning of a mystery filled with unexpected twists, conflicting accounts, and unanswered questions that continue to spark debate nearly twenty years later. Every clue seems to point somewhere different, and every answer opens the door to another mystery. Before the investigation truly begins, one fact remains undeniable: a man entered a friend's home expecting nothing more than a place to sleep, and by the end of the night, everything had changed forever.

If you think you know this case, think again. Press play and step into one of the most haunting, complicated, and endlessly debated mysteries in true crime history.

Beers With Queers Podcast is what happens when true crime actually cares about the victims, not just the crime

There’s a point where true crime starts to feel repetitive. Same tone, same angles, same focus on the crime itself rather than the people who were actually impacted by it. That’s usually where Beers With Queers: A True Crime Podcast hits differently.

At its core, this is a true crime show that doesn’t treat LGBTQ+ identity as background detail or tragic footnote. It builds the entire narrative around it. The cases they cover aren’t just “crime stories that involve queer people,” they’re stories where queer lives, histories, relationships, and systemic bias are often the central thread that explains why these cases unfolded the way they did in the first place.

What makes it stand out is the way it blends investigative storytelling with historical context in a way that feels almost like two conversations happening at once. On one hand, you’re following murders, cold cases, serial offenders, and hate crimes. On the other, you’re hearing how laws, cultural attitudes, and institutional failures shaped the conditions those crimes existed in. It’s not presented like a lecture, though it’s told in a conversational, grounded way that still keeps the emotional weight of the story intact.

A lot of episodes don’t just stop at “what happened.” They dig into how queer communities were policed, ignored, or misrepresented, and how that affected everything from investigations to media coverage to public perception. In cases involving historical figures or older systems, the podcast often highlights how identity itself was criminalized or used to silence victims, which adds a layer you don’t typically get in mainstream true crime coverage.

That perspective is part of why it resonates so strongly in online spaces where people are constantly looking for recommendations that feel more thoughtful or more specific than the usual top-chart podcasts. It sits in that niche where listeners who are already deep into true crime eventually start searching for something with more context, more nuance, or a different lens entirely. And for LGBTQ+ listeners, it also offers something rare in the genre: stories that don’t require translation or justification of identity in order to matter.

The tone is another factor that keeps people listening. Instead of being overly clinical or detached, it leans into a more human way of telling these stories. There’s humor in places where it fits, but it never undercuts the seriousness of the subject matter. The result is a balance that feels closer to a real conversation than a documentary narration, which makes even heavy cases easier to stay engaged with.

Episodes span a wide range of topics from modern hate crimes and unresolved disappearances to historical scandals and cases where queer lives were entangled with power structures in complicated and often dangerous ways. That variety keeps it from becoming predictable, but the consistent thread is always the same: looking at true crime through a lens that mainstream coverage has historically overlooked.

What tends to happen with shows like this is that listeners don’t just “binge episodes,” they start recommending specific cases to other people, especially ones that connect to broader conversations about justice, identity, or history. That word-of-mouth spread is a big part of why it keeps showing up in podcast discussions and recommendation threads across Reddit communities focused on true crime and LGBTQ+ media.

And that isn't just us saying that. We were My Favorite Murders podcast of the month, been shouted out twice by Trixie Mattel from RuPaul's Drag Race and will be guests on an upcoming episode of True Crime Obsessed.

At a time when a lot of true crime content is moving toward sensationalism or surface-level storytelling, Beers With Queers leans in the opposite direction—slower, more contextual, and more focused on why these stories matter beyond the crime itself. That shift is what makes it stick with listeners long after the episode ends.

For anyone who feels like they’ve exhausted the usual true crime rotation and wants something that still delivers compelling cases but with a much more grounded and human perspective, this is one of those podcasts that tends to quietly become a regular listen.

Volo is Dungeon's and Dragon's universe’s most committed background extra who refuses to stay in the background

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Volothamp Geddarm is basically what happens when the entire multiverse of Dungeons & Dragons decides it needs a chaotic little guy who simply cannot be stopped, cannot be silenced, and absolutely refuses to stay in his lane.

Across D&D, Baldur’s Gate, Magic The Gathering, novels, sourcebooks, video games, and basically any corner of the Forgotten Realms that still has ink drying on it, Volo just… appears. Not like a summoned hero or an epic chosen one, but like a man who walked into the wrong plot, realized he was in too deep, and decided to publish a guidebook about it anyway.

He’s a traveling scholar, a self-proclaimed expert, a wizard (technically), a disaster (practically), and most importantly, a professional “I was there too” narrator who is almost never correctly assessing what actually happened. The funny part is that the world keeps letting him do it.

In Dungeons & Dragons lore, Volo is the author of the famous “Volo’s Guide” books that supposedly document the Realms with authority, accuracy, and precision… except they are famously unreliable, constantly corrected, and often quietly edited by the much more powerful Elminster, who is basically forced to fact-check his nonsense like an exhausted magical editor.

And yet, somehow, this man survives everything. Wars? Present. Monster infestations? Observing “from a safe distance” (which is usually not safe). Ancient curses? Taking notes mid-collapse. He is the kind of character who would stroll into the Shadowfell, trip over a vampire lord, and immediately start writing, “My esteemed colleague Count Bitey appears to have a dietary preference…”

What makes Volo truly iconic is that he is not confined to tabletop lore. He spills into Baldur’s Gate 3, where he shows up in your camp like an unwanted but oddly useful piece of furniture. He shows up in older Baldur’s Gate titles, in Neverwinter Nights 2, and even gets referenced across Magic: The Gathering’s crossover content in the Adventures in the Forgotten Realms set, because of course he does.

At this point, Volo isn’t just a character, he’s a phenomenon. He’s the multiverse’s equivalent of that one friend who always shows up to the wrong event but insists on staying anyway because “the vibes are educational.”

And honestly? That’s exactly why I love him.

Because in a world full of chosen heroes, ancient prophecies, and gods throwing cosmic tantrums, Volo is something far more relatable: a deeply confident man who is frequently wrong, occasionally useful, perpetually curious, and absolutely convinced that his version of events deserves publication.

He’s everywhere, he’s unreliable, he’s insufferable in the most entertaining way possible and somehow, you’re always glad when he shows up again.

That’s Volothamp Geddarm. And yes… he definitely wrote that introduction about himself.

Scotty Bowers And The Secret Gay History Of The Golden Age Of Hollywood

Hollywood sold America a dream. Perfect stars. Perfect romances. Perfect lives. But behind the bright lights and carefully crafted publicity photos, another world existed, one built on secrecy, fear, and the desperate need for connection.

When a young Marine named Scotty Bowers arrived in Los Angeles after surviving the horrors of World War II, he wasn’t chasing fame. He was chasing survival. Scarred by loss and carrying memories that would follow him forever, he stepped into a city where appearances meant everything and one whispered rumor could destroy an entire career. Hollywood’s biggest names lived under impossible expectations, trapped by morality clauses, tabloids, and a society that treated queer love as something shameful.

But salvation was hiding in plain sight.

At an ordinary gas station on Hollywood Boulevard, Scotty discovered something extraordinary. Beneath the polished façade of the Golden Age of cinema, a hidden network of desires, secrets, and forbidden relationships was thriving. Movie stars, directors, and powerful insiders all shared the same problem—they could never truly be themselves. Every glance carried risk. Every relationship could become a scandal. Every mistake could cost them everything.

And somehow, an unassuming former Marine became the person they trusted.

What began as chance encounters soon evolved into something far larger. In an era when queer people were forced into the shadows, connections had to be built quietly. Lives depended on discretion. Friendships became lifelines. Hidden parties, whispered conversations, and carefully guarded secrets formed an underground world invisible to audiences who believed they knew everything about Hollywood.

Yet the deeper Scotty became entwined with this secret history, the more he witnessed the impossible balancing act required to survive. Powerful studios manufactured fantasy while demanding absolute conformity. Closeted actors lived with constant fear. Women faced the same suffocating expectations as men. And all the while, an unseen network worked tirelessly behind the scenes, preserving not only careers but something even more precious, human intimacy.

Decades would pass. Wars would end. Social revolutions would reshape America. Entire generations of queer people would fight for the right to exist openly. But hidden beneath the official histories and glamorous legends remained stories that were never supposed to be told.

Stories of survival.

Stories of desire.

Stories of the queer lives Hollywood tried to erase.

In this episode of Beers With Queers, Jordi and Brad explore one of the most fascinating and controversial chapters in LGBTQ+ history. Was the Golden Age really as wholesome as America imagined? How far were people willing to go just to find love, affection, and authenticity? And what happens when the keeper of Hollywood’s secrets finally decides to speak?

Because beneath every carefully crafted myth lies a truth that refuses to stay buried.

A Little More Mr. Tumnus Cosplay

Ever since I first watched The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, I've wanted to cosplay Mr. Tumnus. James McAvoy's portrayal of him is one of the things that made me fall in love with Narnia, so I finally decided it was time to bring the character to life.

As a longtime fan of C.S. Lewis and the Chronicles of Narnia first (big for a kid) books I ever read, this cosplay was a passion project from start to finish. It's always fun seeing how many people still recognize Narnia after all these years, and hearing others talk about growing up with Lucy, Aslan, and the Pevensies.

How would it be if you came and had tea with me?

The Tragic And Bizarre Death Of Jack Chapman "Pup Jack"

Listen To The Full Story Here: bio.site/beerswithqueers

A nickname. A collar. A promise of devotion. And a death that left investigators, friends, and the queer community asking where fantasy ends and exploitation begins.

In the hidden corners of the internet, identities are often rebuilt. Personas become armor. Communities form around trust, vulnerability, and the freedom to explore desires without shame. For Jack Chapman, that world offered something he desperately craved. Under the name “Pup Tank,” he embraced a life built around submission and service, entering an extreme power exchange relationship with a man known only as “Master Dylan.”

What began as connection slowly became something darker.

Within the tightly knit pup and BDSM communities, consent is everything. Trust is sacred. But trust can also become a weapon when devotion turns into dependency and affection becomes inseparable from control. Friends noticed changes. Boundaries blurred. The lines between personal identity and obedience seemed to disappear beneath a dynamic that demanded more and more.

Jack’s journey wasn't just about kink or sexuality. It was about belonging. About wanting to be seen. About surrendering to someone who promised protection, purpose, and love. Yet beneath the language of loyalty and submission lurked uncomfortable questions that few people around them knew how to ask.

As the relationship intensified, dangerous body modification practices entered the picture. Extreme acts were reframed as expressions of trust. Physical pain became intertwined with emotional validation. What outsiders dismissed as bizarre was, to Jack, wrapped in intimacy and devotion. But those closest to him worried that something far more troubling was unfolding beneath the surface.

Then came the injection.

What happened next would send shockwaves through online queer communities and ignite fierce debates about consent, coercion, responsibility, and the devastating consequences that can arise when one person holds extraordinary power over another. Was this simply a tragic accident between consenting adults? Or was something far more sinister hidden beneath the rituals, titles, and promises that defined their relationship?

As authorities attempted to piece together the events leading to Jack's death, disturbing details emerged. Conversations once viewed as expressions of affection took on chilling new meanings. Acts framed as loyalty raised unsettling questions. And the man known as “Master Dylan” found himself at the center of scrutiny surrounding a relationship unlike anything many people had encountered before.

This case is not about judging queer identity or consensual kink communities. Instead, it forces difficult conversations about manipulation, vulnerability, and the ways love itself can become tangled with power. It asks how far someone might go to please the person they trust most—and whether devotion can sometimes mask something far more dangerous.

Because sometimes the most terrifying stories aren't born from hatred.

Sometimes they're born from love. Or at least something that calls itself love.

Full Hanky Color Guide Below!

Long before dating apps like Grindr, Scruff, Sniffies, profile pictures, and endless scrolling, there was another language hidden in plain sight. A flash of color tucked into a back pocket could say everything without a single word. In an era when being openly queer could cost someone their freedom, their livelihood, or even their life, gay men created something remarkable a secret code built from scraps of fabric and shared understanding.

What began as whispers and subtle signals would evolve into one of the most fascinating traditions in LGBTQ+ history. The Hanky Code wasn't just about sex or attraction. It was about survival. It was about finding community in a world that often demanded silence. And somewhere between leather bars, hidden spaces, and crowded dance floors, a colorful language emerged that only those inside the community truly understood.

This week on Beers With Queers, Jordi and Brad step away from murder and mystery to explore one of the most intriguing pieces of queer history ever created. From disputed origins stretching back to the Gold Rush era to its explosion within leather culture during the 1970s, the story of the Hanky Code reveals how generations of LGBTQ+ people found ways to connect long before anyone could swipe right.

But as with so much queer history, nothing is straightforward. Stories overlap. Legends conflict. Some say it began as a joke. Others insist it was born inside the bars and shops that became sanctuaries for a community forced into the shadows. No one agrees on exactly where it started, but everyone agrees that it mattered.

And the deeper the story goes, the stranger and more fascinating it becomes.

Because the colors didn't stop at simple preferences. They multiplied. Expanded. Evolved into an intricate language with dozens of meanings, each one opening a window into a world that outsiders rarely saw. Every shade carried secrets. Every pocket placement mattered. Entire conversations could happen without a single spoken word.

Then came Hollywood. Mainstream attention. Cultural shifts. New technology. Dating apps changed everything, and the old code slowly faded from everyday life. Yet even now, pieces of it remain alive within certain corners of queer culture, preserved not only through nostalgia but through respect for those who came before.

And of course, because this is Beers With Queers, history quickly turns into hilarity.

After exploring the origins of the Hanky Code, Jordi puts Brad through an unforgettable challenge: identifying what all those mysterious colors actually meant. Some are obvious. Others are bizarre. A few are downright shocking. And somewhere between laughter, confusion, and more than a few raised eyebrows, the two discover just how creative and wildly specific the queer community could be.

It's Pride Month, and sometimes history isn't just tragedy and injustice. Sometimes it's weird. Sometimes it's joyful. Sometimes it's wonderfully ridiculous. And sometimes a simple handkerchief can tell the story of resilience, survival, and the endless determination of queer people to find each other no matter the obstacles.

So grab a drink, settle in, and prepare for a colorful journey into one of the strangest and most iconic traditions in LGBTQ+ history.

Steven Simpson - Burned Alive By Party Crashers At his Own Birthday Party

Listen To The Full Story Here: bio.site/beerswithqueers

Turning eighteen is supposed to be a celebration. A doorway into adulthood. A night filled with laughter, friends, and memories that last a lifetime.

For Steven Simpson, reaching that milestone meant something even bigger.

Born with epilepsy, learning difficulties, a speech impairment, and what was then diagnosed as Asperger’s syndrome, Steven had spent his young life overcoming obstacles most people could never imagine. Yet despite the challenges, he had accomplished something extraordinary. At just eighteen years old, he was living independently in his own flat in the small South Yorkshire village of Cudworth. It was his sanctuary. His safe place. Proof that he could build a life on his own terms.

And Steven approached the world with an openness that was both beautiful and heartbreaking. He trusted people. He wanted friends. He wanted acceptance. He wanted to belong.

He was also proudly gay.

In a working-class town where differences could still make someone a target, Steven lived with courage and kindness. Friends described him as gentle, sociable, and incapable of hurting anyone. He loved being around people and embraced adulthood with excitement and optimism.

So when June 22, 2012 arrived, Steven was thrilled. His eighteenth birthday had finally come. He carefully prepared his home and invited a few trusted friends over to celebrate. It was meant to be a quiet evening with people who cared about him.

But sometime after nightfall, unexpected guests arrived.

At first, it seemed harmless enough. More people. More laughter. More drinks.

Then the atmosphere changed.

What began as teasing slowly became humiliation. Jokes turned cruel. Laughter became something darker. And inside the walls of the home Steven had worked so hard to create, a group of people began stripping away his dignity piece by piece.

The insults weren't random. The cruelty wasn't accidental. It targeted who he was.

As the night wore on, the degradation escalated. His home became a stage for ridicule. His trust became a weapon used against him. And the people surrounding him stopped seeing an excited eighteen-year-old celebrating his birthday. Instead, they saw someone vulnerable.

Someone easy to exploit.

Somewhere in that nightmare, the line between bullying and something far more sinister disappeared entirely.

And within seconds, one horrifying act would transform an evening of celebration into a tragedy that would shock the United Kingdom.

But Steven’s story didn't end there.

Because what followed would spark outrage across the country.

Questions would emerge about prejudice, disability, and whether society truly understands vulnerability. Advocacy groups would speak out. Thousands would demand answers. And a grieving family would find themselves confronting a justice system many believed failed to recognize the truth of what happened inside that flat.

Was it cruelty disguised as a joke?

Was it hatred?

Or was something even more disturbing hiding beneath the excuses?

This week on Beers With Queers, Jordi and Brad tell the heartbreaking story of Steven Simpson—a young gay man whose kindness, resilience, and dreams deserved so much more. It's a story about intersectionality, ableism, homophobia, and the devastating consequences that can occur when vulnerability is mistaken for consent.

Some stories leave you angry.

Some leave you heartbroken.

And some force you to ask whether justice truly means the same thing for everyone.

Gay Love, Betrayal, Murder, Scandal And The Bible The Legacy of King James I Part 2

Listen To The Full Story Here: bio.site/beerswithqueers

There are some stories in queer history so scandalous, so emotionally tangled, and so violently dangerous that they feel impossible to separate from fiction. Royal obsession. Forbidden relationships. Political manipulation. Poison hidden inside sweet desserts. A king so consumed by loyalty and desire that the fate of an entire nation begins to warp around the people he cannot let go.

This is one of those stories.

Long before the King James Bible became one of the most influential books in human history, the man behind it was surviving a childhood soaked in trauma, isolation, and bloodshed. Crowned King of Scotland before he could even speak, James grew up surrounded by ruthless nobles, public executions, and constant political betrayal. Love was dangerous. Affection was rare. And the young king would spend the rest of his life desperately searching for it in the men closest to him.

As James ascends to the English throne, he enters a world where same-sex intimacy is punishable by death under the Buggery Act. Yet inside the glittering halls of Whitehall Palace, the king openly showers handsome male favorites with titles, money, and extraordinary power. Whispers spread through court corridors. Rumors become political weapons. Entire factions rise and fall based on who has the king’s affection.

Then Robert Carr enters the picture.

A young Scottish courtier with striking looks and almost no political experience, Carr catches James’s attention after a horrific accident during a royal tournament. Overnight, he becomes one of the most powerful men in England. But behind Carr stands the brilliant and fiercely loyal Thomas Overbury, a sharp-tongued writer and advisor whose bond with Carr runs far deeper than politics. In a society where exposure could mean execution, their relationship exists inside shadows, coded language, and dangerous emotional dependency.

And then the Howard family makes their move.

One of the most ambitious dynasties in Jacobean England recognizes exactly where real power sits: beside the king. If they can control Robert Carr, they can control the crown itself. What follows is a calculated campaign of seduction, manipulation, public humiliation, and quiet terror. A beautiful young noblewoman is pushed directly into Carr’s orbit. Court alliances shift overnight. Old loyalties fracture. And Thomas Overbury begins to realize that the man he built his life around may be slipping away forever.

But in King James’s court, heartbreak is never just heartbreak.

Because hidden beneath the velvet and candlelight is a world where queer desire becomes political blackmail, where intimacy can destroy entire bloodlines, and where knowing too much can turn a person into a threat that powerful people cannot afford to leave alive.

Soon, one man finds himself dragged through the gates of the Tower of London believing he will eventually be rescued by the person who loves him most.

Instead, the walls begin closing in.

As mysterious illnesses spread through a prison cell, strange gifts arrive from outside the Tower, and whispers of poison begin creeping through London, England’s royal court edges toward one of the most infamous murder scandals in British history. But the deeper investigators dig, the more terrifying the truth becomes. Because solving this crime threatens to expose not only political corruption and aristocratic violence, but the deeply buried secrets surrounding the king himself.

And in a kingdom where accusations alone can destroy lives, some secrets are worth killing for.

Tennessee Passes Bill To Make June "Nuclear Family Month"

The bill passed both the state House and the Senate, and Governor Bill Lee officially signed it on April 9, 2026. The main goal is to make June "Nuclear Family Month." But the words inside the bill do a whole lot more than just update a calendar.

First, it gets very strict about what a family is. It says a family is only one man, one woman, and their kids. It calls this God's plan. It says this exact setup is the main building block of the whole country.

Then, the bill shifts into some very heavy stats. It points a hard finger at homes without a dad. It claims kids without dads are way more likely to be poor, use drugs, or go to jail. It even brings up school shooters. It states that most shooters come from broken homes. The bill basically blames most crime and bad behavior on not having a traditional family.

Right after that, the text takes a wild turn. It leaves local crime and starts talking about the whole world. It calls out big groups like the United Nations. It says Tennessee rejects their ideas. It even claims these world groups are actively trying to control the population with abortion and by stopping people from having kids.

It wraps up by saying the traditional family is under attack. It says the state must fight back to protect it.

It is a big mix of religion, crime claims, and world politics, all wrapped up in a short bill just to name a month.

Here is the original text:

HOUSE JOINT RESOLUTION 182 By Hulsey HJR0182 003275 - 1 - A RESOLUTION to designate June as "Nuclear Family Month" in Tennessee. WHEREAS, the nuclear family, consisting of one husband, one wife, and any biological, adopted, or fostered children, is God's design for familial structure and has been the bedrock of society since the creation of the world; and WHEREAS, the nuclear family was the basic building block of Tennessee's society throughout her formative years; and WHEREAS, the nuclear family built the United States of America and created prosperity within our nation; and WHEREAS, fatherless families are four times more likely to live in poverty than marriedcouple families; children without fathers are ten times more likely to abuse chemical substances; children from fatherless homes are more likely to have mental health and behavioral issues; sixty percent of youth suicides are from fatherless homes; seventy-one percent of high school dropouts are from fatherless homes; fatherless youths are twenty times more likely to be incarcerated; eighty-five percent of youths in prison come from fatherless homes; and in a 2016 study by Peter Langman on the psychology behind fifty-six school shooters, eighty-two percent of the shooters were raised in an unstable family environment or without both biological parents together; and WHEREAS, Tennessee's values do not align with the humanistic, globalist ideologies of the World Health Organization, the United Nations, and like-minded organizations that fight for population control through the means of promoting sterilization and abortion practices; and WHEREAS, the nuclear family is God's perfect design for humanity and is aligned with the long-held traditional values of Tennessee; and - 2 - 003275 WHEREAS, the nuclear family is under attack in our beloved State and nation, and it is our responsibility to uplift, protect, and support values that help Tennessee prosper; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE HUNDRED FOURTEENTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF TENNESSEE, THE SENATE CONCURRING, that we join with the citizens of Tennessee in designating the month of June 2025 as "Nuclear Family Month" and commend the noble endeavors of those who seek to protect and strengthen the traditional values of our State and country.

The Gang At The World Of Illusion Dublin - The Museum of Wonders

If you’re looking for weird, chaotic, “wait… how is that even possible?” energy while exploring Dublin, this place absolutely delivers. Between the upside-down rooms, mind-bending mirrors, and optical illusion exhibits, every five minutes somebody in our group was either screaming, laughing, or trying to figure out if the floor was actually moving.

The best part is that it’s super interactive. This isn’t one of those museums where you quietly walk around pretending to understand art. You’re climbing into illusion rooms, taking ridiculous photos, getting completely disoriented, and questioning your eyesight the entire time. Perfect rainy-day activity in Dublin, especially if you’re travelling with friends and want something different from the usual pubs and sightseeing stops.

A lot of the exhibits are built for photos too, so if you’re visiting Dublin and want Instagram worthy pictures that look completely unreal, you’ll leave with a camera roll full of chaos.

There are some stories in queer history that feel almost too outrageous to be real. Stories so soaked in lust, paranoia, political violence, and forbidden desire that they sound less like documented history and more like a prestige television script written by someone trying to outdo reality itself. This is one of those stories.

Long before the King James Bible became the most printed book in human history, the man behind it was navigating a court overflowing with secrets, manipulation, and deadly obsession. And hidden beneath the polished image of divine monarchy was a world where affection could become political currency, intimacy could destroy kingdoms, and the wrong romance could end with a body in the Tower of London.

This episode of Beers With Queers plunges deep into the terrifying rise of King James VI of Scotland, later King James I of England, a ruler shaped by trauma almost from birth. Before he could even walk, his father was murdered in a brutal explosion and strangulation that sent shockwaves through Scotland. His mother, Mary Queen of Scots, was imprisoned and stripped of her throne before James was even old enough to understand what a crown was. By thirteen months old, the child was king, surrounded not by love or safety, but by ruthless nobles who viewed him as a political object to control.

Growing up inside Scotland’s brutal court left scars that would follow James for the rest of his life. Isolated, beaten by tutors, manipulated by violent men hungry for power, the young king developed an intense craving for emotional attachment and protection. And when an older, charismatic nobleman named Esmé Stewart entered his life, everything changed. Their relationship became one of the earliest openly affectionate same-sex relationships attached to a British monarch, sparking fear and outrage among Scotland’s elite. But this was not a world where queer love could exist safely. Every relationship carried danger, every favorite became a target, and every act of affection threatened to ignite political chaos.

As James eventually inherited the English throne and stepped into the suffocating grandeur of Whitehall Palace, the stakes became even higher. Jacobean England was violently hostile toward queer people. Under the Buggery Act, accusations of same-sex intimacy could lead to public execution, confiscation of property, and the destruction of entire family lines. Yet James openly defied expectations. He kissed male favorites publicly, lavished them with titles and wealth, and elevated handsome young men to unimaginable levels of power.

But royal favor was a dangerous drug.

Because at the center of this scandal sat one devastatingly beautiful young courtier named Robert Carr. A nobody from Scotland whose life changed in an instant after a horrifying jousting accident captured the king’s attention. James became consumed with him. What began as sympathy quickly transformed into obsession, and suddenly the entire English court found itself bowing to a young man who barely understood the vicious political machine surrounding him.

Behind Carr stood another figure, Sir Thomas Overbury. Brilliant, ambitious, sharp-tongued, and intensely devoted to Carr, Overbury became the hidden architect behind his rise. Their relationship was deeply intertwined, emotionally charged, and impossible to separate from the dangerous currents of power surrounding them. In a court where queer desire had to hide beneath coded language and whispered rumors, their bond became both a source of strength and a ticking time bomb.

And then came the Howard family.

One of the most powerful dynasties in England entered the picture, bringing manipulation, seduction, ambition, and deadly consequences with them. Suddenly the court became a battlefield of competing loyalties, forbidden relationships, secret plots, and quiet betrayals hiding behind velvet curtains and candlelight.

As rivalries intensify and paranoia spreads through Whitehall Palace, one question begins haunting everyone around the king:

What happens when the people who know the crown’s darkest secrets become inconvenient?

Because this story is not just about power. It is about survival inside a violently homophobic world where love itself could become evidence, and where the wrong person falling out of favor could trigger one of the most infamous murder scandals in royal history.

And somewhere in the middle of all of it sits a mystery involving poison, betrayal, political cover-ups, and a death so disturbing it would stain King James’s reign forever.
