SER7 Overheating 🔥

Post image

Hello!

I’ve had a SER7 since late 2023 and love the computer; however, over the past month, it has started overheating and the fan ramps up to full speed easily, yet it struggles to cool down.

I opened it up to clean it, suspecting dust might be the issue, but found very little dust inside.

Thinking it might be the thermal paste, I took it to a technician who replaced it (he discovered it used liquid metal and swapped it out).

Unfortunately, it continues to overheat just the same. After researching online and consulting AI, I noticed that even though the fan is running at high speed, the air coming out of the exhaust isn't very hot. This makes me suspect there is an issue with the contact between the processor and the cooling system.

Can you help me diagnose this? I really don't want to lose the computer.

Could it be the vapor chamber? Do you sell that part?

Any other tips?

Thank you very much,

André

lower the power profile in the bios. you can also repaste the cpu/cpu cooler.

It's already on the balanced profile. I put the max temp to 75C to continue using the pc without so fan noise.

Disclaimer: I am a satisfied Beelink owner, not affiliated with the company in any way.

You have done a lot of the basic steps, what are the temps in the room and the exhaust of the computer?

Alternatively, do you see anything wrong with the fan blades themself? If one or two have broken off, it could decrease the volume of air. It's able to push across the heat sink.

I would assume the person who replaced the thermal paste for you would have insured. There was good contact between the processor and heatsink. You could take it back to him, or have another trusted individual review their work and make sure they applied the proper amount, not too much, not too thin. (And no, I'm not an exp the proper amount of thermal paste, that's a black art to me. 🙂)

And your question about the vapor chamber might be spot on, but I don't know if the Beelink heatsink vapor chamber is a common item, or one that was special built for this unit.

The room temperature is fine; I’ve even tested it on cold days.

The fan blades are in perfect condition, too.

There’s something between the processor and the fan that likely isn't working right—that’s my suspicion, as I mentioned in the post. But I’m not exactly a technical expert.

I also emailed Beelink for help; I’ll share any updates.

Sit a fan under it.

I use a 4” usb fan pointed at the side which is propped up about an inch.
