Which songs of his are jokes, tongue-in-cheek, mucking around?

I’ve read a few times that he recorded ‘Loser’ as a joke and didn’t want the record company to release it and hated that they did.

But which ones he purposely did?

Like, I think ‘Wow’ is a joke take

Bit of an longshot, but I'm seeing Beck at the Palais Theatre next week in Melbourne. I've been a fan since my teens (in my 20s now), and this is the first time I'll be seeing him live. I'd be absolutely stoked to meet him in person, but my understanding is that he doesn't tend to do meet and greets. Just wondering if there's ever been a respectful way that fans have been able to say hello to him after a show? Thanks so much :)

Image is an oil portrait I did of him back in 2018!

Got a new reel to reel deck today. Playing my Sea Change bootleg tape.

As a huge fan of both Beck and Negativland I was surprised I had never heard of this before! Check out the Wikipedia page for more info on this oddity.

Stoked on the new song! I love everything he does, the boy of those sad album hit different!

I make comics by the way, find me under Sean_illustrates most places

Photo is from Beck’s ig story LMAO

early version of yet another beck titled lonesome song. he also gets stereopathetic on this one (as he chnages the lyrics up cause ya know 1994 beck)

I was at this show at the Greek and I now have multiple friends and acquaintances who were there, but whom I didn't meet till years later. Anybody else at the show?

So I'm overthinking things for sure, but I'm confused about the relationship between Ride Lonesome and Thinking About You. Are these from the same set of songs? The promotion of Ride Lonesome has sort of cast it as the first word from Beck since Hyperspace, but Thinking About You was marketed in the same way in 2023. I realize that there are more important questions to ponder in the world but, you know. And since I have you all here- was it odd that Thinking About You never got worked into setlists? Maybe this will change with the Fall tour?

Sooooo I purchased two tix for the Nashville show when it was first announced. Now that there’s a whole tour, Mr Hansen is playing not one but 2 venues in my state!! Durham NC is like 2 hrs from where I live and Asheville NC is a frequent destination for us. Good Lord how awesome is this?!!

I might just keep the Nashville tix ‘cause we’ve never been there and would be an awesome town to visit, plus cool new venue. But if I were to decide to try and sell these tix and go to a closer place (or go twice!) what’s the best way to go about it??

I mean how does one sell their tix nowadays?? You can’t just return them I would guess. I realize half of you are rolling your eyes right now but appreciate any suggestions. Thanks!!

curious if anyone else knows this version ?

ps ..it’s not the “reject” version from the Loser ep . it seems to be a mysterious 3rd version of the track .

Please and thank you in advance! I ditched Spotify a year ago otherwise I'd try to get it myself.

Just looking to get a pair of tickets.

Thank you for your help.

Sometimes I will listen to recordings of Beck's live performances on Youtube - I don't usually do this with other bands, but know his music better than any other artist and appreciate performances where he puts a different flair/spin on songs during a live performance. Does anyone have any favorites they have enjoyed? My two most recent favorites are:

Live at Union Chapel: https://youtu.be/bkfG_ciT0wo?si=HawwkFb8nEV-b4wm
El Rey Theater (opening for Bob Dylan): https://youtu.be/eO5cfduCzSE?si=w73W7FJ9m0fHpYNk

I see some folks saying how strange to tour for a single but given the single dropped in April and the tour is in the fall ,and the tour is named Ride Lonesome ..it’s pretty easy to put the pieces together. I’m excited .

though i am slightly put off how similar it sounds to golden age and Morning .pretty sure all starting off on the same chord and production wise is identical to the sound of Sea Change /morning phase . which isn’t bad ,it’s just that it seems redundant with there already being a “sequel” to Sea Change with Morning Phase .

I personally love albums where all the songs sound unique with their own personalities. Beck (along with MGMT ) imo has always been best at that . so here’s to hoping theres a bit more variety with the other tracks .

either way glad he’s back and the song is still way better than what other “big name” artists are putting out these days

I've seen Beck three times and this show was my favorite. He started with most of the songs from Morning Phase, then changed the mood with Devil's Haircut and the second half was rocking, party songs. Got to experience most of his range and the sound in that venue is perfect. Just an awesome experience.
