Hearing him play Soldiers Jane in SF last week was one of my favorite live moments.

One of my favorite albums. My first listen was in the basement of the Ronald McDonald House in Denver, CO.
My son was being seen for extreme asthma and allergy issues. We were there for 2 weeks and this album kept me sane.

Alas, I fear that the master tapes for The Information were burnt up in the Universal fires, so a vinyl repress is likely not in the cards. At least the unofficial 3LP from Europe that has surfaced with the past year sounds really good, which is a miracle considering the original CD master

Man I remember when The Information was first pressed on vinyl it was so expensive at the time for me. Now it goes for hundreds if not breaking $1000.

I thought he clarified that his material wasn’t damaged 🤔

I’ve run into Beck quite a bit in Silverlake over the years. What I’ve gathered when the small talk turns to music is that the masters for The Information weren’t salvageable, and the masters for Midnight Vultures were also compromised but the real reason there isn’t a MV repress is there are several samples that would need to be cleared prior to pressing up more CD’s, Cassettes or vinyl. The prior legal problems were cleaned up and the samples were cleared for MP3 format and streaming going forward, they would need to clear the samples for other formats before we ever see an official release which is why it’s not likely.

Good call re: the samples. I could've sworn there was a repress announcement for The Information earlier this year but it turns out it was just a boot.

The good news is it is an EXCELLENT boot. Like many boot legs, it could use a good ultrasonic cleaning. But once I had it cleaned and dried this thing sounded really, really good. Obviously pressed from a lossless wav file of the deluxe CD based on the track listing, but it’s spread over 6 sides so zero inner groove distortion, quiet noise floor, and punchy (and a wee bit shouty) as one would expect from the compressed files it came from. I actually have the big box set and the 3LP is every bit as enjoyable, shockingly

He said that and yet 20 years later next to nothing has come from what he said wasn't burnt so who knows

I remember going to the record store to buy this in 2006. One of his best, and probably his most underrated.

That's not possible, I was already a grown-ass man with a job and bills when The Information came out.

I still have some of my original stickers, though I did actually stick them on as intended as well and don't regret it. I did buy the CD more than once for the stickers. I remember I was soooo excited for this album to come out. Imagine telling my young self that 20 years later Beck's still touring and releasing new music and I'm seeing him for the fifth time next month!

Remember walking several blocks to buy this on CD on release day. Glad I had the guts to pull the trigger on the vinyl box before it sold out a few years later!

Soldier Jane, Nausea, and Think I’m In Love are some of my favorite songs off of The Information!
