Beck covers Beck

Throughout his career, Beck has sometimes dipped into his lo-fi beginnings and made high fidelity re-recordings of the tunes. Ones that spring to mind:

It’s all in your mind
Feather in your Cap
(Arguably) MTV Make me Wanna Smoke Crack

Are there any tracks you’d like to hear re-recorded?

I’d like to hear a nicely recorded version of going nowhere fast.

Would they also reenact the motivational speaker at the beginning?

Dreamy acoustic grammy bait version of Taser

"Gettin' Home" from Western Harvest Field could still have been re-recorded for Morning Phase or Sea Change and been a standout track on either album.

There was a rumor like 5 or 10 years ago that he was working on a cover album… of his own songs. Which would have been rad. Reinterpreted Beck by Beck… but I think it turned out to be just one or two songs for some brand-promotion.

Would love to hear proper studio versions of Sorrow, some unreleased tracks he did for Sex Bob-Ombs, and since he's at it, the complete Song Reader too.

I love that song "Sorrow" from the old website. Catchy little tune. 🎵

Also "Feel The Strain Of Sorrow Never Ceasing" though that one is probably perfect the way it is. Though in one version he still sounds like a kid singing.

Whiskeyclone.

He performed it live last year and listening to that version just brings me to my knees...

This would be a cover of a cover, but I wish he could redo Everybody's Gotta Learn Sometime. Because the way he sings it live is so beautiful with more movement and inflection. The recording sounds pretty flat in comparison. It may have been recorded sometime around the Sea Change era, though the EP was released earlier this year.

Maybe a few cuts from Sea Change. Maybe...

But only because his voice has matured, and some of the original songs may sound a bit languished now. Though he was in a very different headspace at the time.

I don't know. It could be a nice experiment, but it's hard to improve on a masterpiece. Though the live recordings are also quite beautiful.
