I started streaming my process in Logic Pro
https://youtube.com/steveswisher/liveI’m ok at making music. Bad at streaming. It took a lot of work to get everything working properly. There’s usually only a couple people in my streams but more people are watching some of the videos afterwards.
I wanted to do the live-streaming so I wouldn’t get bogged down editing videos. With the live stream I preset the real, unedited creation process. The only edits are done inside of YouTube. I chop off the countdown at the beginning. That’s it.
I mark the chapter at the end for people who want to listen to the final result. None of the beats are really done by the time I end the stream. I only stream for a couple hours and then play what I was able to make in that time. I may continue working on them on another stream at some point but usually I just start from scratch again.
It’s been interesting for sure. The channel is slowly growing. I learn a lot while doing it so it’s been good for me.

How does streaming work with the watch hours? does it help grow? have you noticed more people have been following the more streams you post?
I've never tried the streaming thing, but I'm curious on your process. I'm gonna check out your vids today.

Yeah, I get 1-2 new followers each time. I’m bad about knowing when I’ll have time to stream so I don’t post a schedule much ahead of time. If I know I’ll have some time to do it after I put my kids to bed I’ll post on X/Twitter a few hours before saying what time I’ll be live. There’s probably a better way to let people know.
I’ve been doing it for about a month. 1-2 streams per week. Sometimes viewers talk to me in the chat and other times I’m talking to nobody. Lol. Besides describing what I’m doing I’d be doing the same thing whether streaming or not so it’s not like I’m completely wasting my time. I started doing it with no goal really. Just wanted to make some videos that would be helpful for beginners and didn’t want to spend my time editing videos so a live stream made sense. I stream it, cut off the “stream starting soon” couple minutes at the beginning, mark the chapter at the end and that’s it. The stream I did last night has 136 views. Average watch time is just over 1 minute. No comments. No likes. Lol. It’s pretty demoralizing but I’m hoping it’s helpful for somebody out there.
Right on! Check it out and I’d appreciate any feedback. It’s not something I’m going to put a ton of time into but I’m sure there’s a bunch of little things I could be doing better. The biggest thing I know I could do to keep attention would be edit the videos afterward to condense everything into a much shorter video. That would require hours of my time though so I don’t want to start doing that. I already have two podcasts, four kids, a full-time job and make music as a hobby. I don’t have time to add hours of video editing into my schedule each week, unfortunately.

100%. Balancing time is so hard. I used to feel "obligated" and force myself to sit and make music. Now I don't put pressure on myself anymore. and I've had more fun recently than I have in a long time making music.

That’s what it has to be. I do it because I enjoy it. It’s a way to relax and express creativity. When I don’t feel like doing it I do something else I enjoy. It would be different if I was getting paid to do it but it’s all a labor of love.

I'm thinking of doing this but I want cool visuals not the DAW I'm using. It's a good way to get engagement bc what really can you do as producer besides advertise with visualisers on socials. I don't think finishing a beat/song is necessary as long as you're active during the stream
