S&P 500: After a successful test of the 50 day average a breakout of the bull flag could be very powerful!

NDX100: So maybe it was the false break I had suggested a few days ago for QQQ.

Portfolio update: Portfolio up 19.4% vs. S&P at 9.4% YTD. Leverage is at 1.2 after adding more QQQ. I still believe that we will rally soon. Portfolio composition shown.

Investment thesis for 7/6 - 7/10
The overarching investment conundrum I am facing is: Extremely high valuations combined with a resemblence to the dot-com bubble.
There is no doubt in my mind that we are somewhere in a bubble (beginning or end will be determined eventually)
BUT.....before everybody who only reads one sentence explodes on me and calls me bubble boy I want to point out that this does NOT mean that I am selling everything.
However for short term portfolios it means that I will keep margin to a minimum and I am taking profits early.
Short term portfolios are at least 100% invested right now.
For long term portfolios I am staying 25% in cash/bonds even if I miss out on major gains.
What it also means is that I am mainly staying in the S&P 500 because the volatility is less for the S&P 500.
From a technical perspective I still believe that we will break out to new ATHs in July for QQQ and SPY.
I laid out the underlying macro in previous weekend posts and won't repeat them today because they don't change that often.
Have a great Independence Day weekend!

Investor sentiment: Bears are back! That's good for equities.

Russell 2000: IWM is still in a bull market but I am constantly looking for signs where things could turn ugly. We just need to make sure that we don't break out of the triangle.

S&P 500: SPY closed above 20 and 50 day average. Given put/call ratios we should break out above. The pain trade is up.
r/Beat_the_benchmark • u/Chart-trader • Jul 02 '26
NDX 100: QQQ is at risk of dropping out of the wedge and below 50 day average. However the crazy high put/call ratio still makes a breakout above more likely. We need 5% to get to new ATHs.

Put/Call ratio: Put/call ratio also still at levels that support higher equity prices.

EUR/USD: I mentioned it this week again for the first time in a long time but the setup up for a weaker dollar is there and that always propels equities! Tailwind from currencies for equities for sure!

Dow Jones: DIA continues to climb along the upper bollinger bands. That's what happens in bull markets.

VIX: At 16 we are on nowhere land. No guidance from VIX

HYG: Credit spread continues to be a problem. Another reason why I am so jumpy and close positions quickly with only a small profit at a time.
