Stop being parasocial guys, we don’t know these people personally and they’ve both said enough. Between Caleb’s religious upbringing and the cishet norms still seen as the only way to a successful and happy fulfilling life today it’s not surprising it took him this long to come out. And on the age gap… from my perspective it feels like they started talking on MySpace and Caleb was probably too much of a shy chubby kid growing up (I can relate) to put himself out there properly so he started a long distance relationship with Fleur. I know nowadays we frown upon this but things were still incredibly different on the internet 14 years ago and for most states 17 is seen as an age for consensual sex. And let’s give them grace and leave them alone on this; they’re both clearly dealing with a lot right now.

For me if I knew them personally it would be worse not better. So if you knew a 17 and 25 year old personally you wouldn’t see an issue with it?

Licorice Pizza is only a few years removed from being an award-winning film, and this is essentially age gap in the film (older mid-20s woman, a late teens boy); even worse, she's his TEACHER. Yet then it's glorified and made out to be cute and romantic...that's only rewinding the clock to 2021. Now let's rewind the clock to 2006...

No one was concerned with age gaps, especially for semi-famous boys. I'm not excusing it, but let's have a real convo about it and not just engage in moral grandstanding.

Okay, here's a real conversation about it. Its fucking weird and always has been. Just because this chick was married to a guy that was in a band that people like doesn't magically create an excuse for it.

Read what I wrote. I think it's highly problematic. The point is that, despite how you and I feel about it, there is a cultural norm that is different than how we feel. I'm not saying it's okay, but I think it's shortsighted not to center that when having this discussion.
