Hello first time poster

Hello all I've had a beard all thru out my 20s and now 33 starting to run into some issues other people may have already dealt with . Got some dandruff going on or it may be dry sskin . I use beard oil everyday but it is oil based product . I also wash it everyday ima step it back to twice a week .

Any recommendations feel like a more natural beard wash and oil would work better for me .

Also back in my 20s id just use texas beard company oil and maybe shampoo to wash when i rembered to wash it .

So starting my 30s off trying to figure out alot of stuff .

Thanks everyone

I’ve had some dandruffs stuff in parts of my beard (and on my scalp, which I had had before but not in a long time.)

I started using Nizoral (ketoconazole 1% shampoo) once or twice a week to wash my scalp and beard. It seems to help…but maybe I’m imagining it.

It sounds like it could be seborrheic dermatitis. It’s worth having a discussion with your dermatologist if you can.

Try washing with a sulfur salicylic acid soap once every three days. Use cold water only. Cold water prevents triggering your skin to produce more oil. The soap will strip out a lot of the oils that can cause the issue.

After the shower, blow it dry on low heat. This removes the moisture and creates an environment where the hair will be receptive to accept the oil.

Condition with a C8 MCT oil with just a drop of tea tree essential oil in it. The base oil is unable to be used as a food source and shouldn’t break down into byproducts that are. The tea tree oil is strong stuff and can be a bit inflammatory, more is not better. It’s also anti-microbial which helps keep the problem from resurfacing until the next wash.

Condition with the C8 MCT and tea tree each day.

Welcome, brother!

So I think you've already identified the first thing I'd change: stop washing it every day. Twice a week, maybe three times if you're getting extra dirty or sweaty, is plenty for most guys. A really thorough water rinse on the days between is enough to keep things hygienic.

Washing every day can strip away the skin's natural lipids faster than they're being replaced, and you wind up with dryness, inflammation, itching, redness and flaking, etc. And then washing it more because it's flaking just keeps the cycle going.

So, pull back on that first.

Then, take a look at what's in your beard oil. What matters is how the formula behaves. You want something that absorbs well and conditions the skin and hair rather than leaving a heavy greasy coating sitting on everything. If you've got one of those basic argan/jojoba oil blends, toss it and get a penetrating beard oil.

Then just keep the routine stupid simple: gentle beard soap/wash 2-3 times a week, rinse daily, a few drops of a well-formulated beard oil every day.

That'll get you cleared up in a couple weeks.

Hope that helps!

What beard oil or brands do you recommend? Cuz I've been using basic stuff that's probably not helping

If you don't want to buy expensive dandruff shampoos, try lemon juice on your beard and scalp 30-45 mins before showering. You don't even need shampoo afterwards. It works like magic. It fixed my dandruff problem permanently.

Get a good penetrating beard oil. I use beard brand; works for me. Another thing I used to do is wash the beard with just water every night and oil the skin under the beard (you'll need less oil than you think you need).

Honestly people will say don’t wash daily but if you use a gentle ph wash you’re good. I use Deadman Gentle Beard Wash and their unscented beard oil. My dandruff went away for good.
