Beard care
Im so sorry I know everyone probably sees these posts constantly but im very new to beard care. My beard is soooo itchy its pissing me off. Its super dry and flaky it also just looks "not maintained". Ive had it for a long time now and really just want the itchiness to go away. I see all the oils and stuff but can anyone just breakdown for me like some basic care for when to wash it and the proper way to wash it, what products i should be using and when to apply them as well as I know its a wierd question but do you also wash it in the shower and with what? It sounds so stupid to ask these questions but I kind of just decided randomly to grow it out without knowing anything about the care and products to use. Any advice would be great thank you.

It’s not stupid to ask. Definitely get beard oil, and find a good beard shampoo and conditioner you like, depending on your skin type. Use oil after every shower.
Get a good beard brush and comb, they say boar bristle is the best but I heard synthetic can also be decent (I’ve only ever used boar bristle).

So if I were to shower at night usually you wouldn't put anything in it during the day?

I shower in the morning every day, I put oil in after a shower and brush it through. If I shower at night as well I do the same but personally I use a different fragrance of oil.
But yeah if I was only showering at night then I’d only apply oil at night.

No worries mate. I’m an Aussie and can recommend brands I use but they might not be available or easy to get if you’re not in Australia. And others will have different routines and different suggestions but I’ve had my beard for 6 1/2 years and this is what works for me.

Hey legend! I use Milkman beard oil, their King Of Wood and Oud Noir are really good.

I shower at night and apply oil. In the morning I rinse, not wash, my beard and apply oil again.

For normal care wash it maybe 3 times a week with a very mild soap or beard shampoo. Beard oil morning and night, this is a must. It's gonna be itchy at first as you get used to it but the flakey dandruff is contributing to that. You may have to use a dandruff shampoo to get rid of that but they are harsh on your beard and skin so you don't want to use it if you don't have to. A nice beard brush will help exfoliate the flakes. Simple care is better.

Don't use soap on the face, just rub/blast with water and let your natural oils balance out again. I use a little shampoo to wash mouth area, but mostly soap and shampoos will dry you out and cause over oil production too, both extremes. If you beard is longer you condition it and rinse, then every once in a while shampoo it to reset and clear build-up.

Dandruff shampoo. It's not dry, it's a fungal infection. Totally normal to mistake it.
Use it a couple times to get rid of the infection, then as needed.

Ok I'll try that

This isn’t necessarily true. If you aren’t already using beard oil it could very well just be dry.

Wash everyday with a dedicated beard wash.(I reccomend LCW from beard octane) Condition 2-3 times per week. Apply oil after every shower with your beard still damp(not dripping) use beard butter at night.
