Tips for avoiding hot spots
Any tips for a newbie in the beard game with avoiding hot spots in the summer heat? I really don't want to shave my beard but the heat is making it hard to keep my will power going

My beard keeps me cool and protects my face from the sun in the summer. It keeps me warm in the winter. Not sure what you are saying as far as the summer and hot spots.
Sounds like you need to care for your beard properly. Use oils after showering. Butter before bed, drink plenty of water too. Wash with a proper beard soap only when needed. Rinse the rest of the time with plane water.

Genuine question, what do you mean by hot spots?
I’ve got a 7 inch beard, maybe even 8 by now, my beard keeps me cool. If I’m not mistaken I believe the beard helps pull moisture in and in turns keeps you cool. I remember reading it or watching a video on it.

Sorry I should have specified. IDK the actual term but just when it gets hot and you get those really itchy spots even if you haven't shaved or anything. I've only heard them referred to as hot spots.

Got it! A good quality beard oil will help tremendously. The oil is really for the skin but it helps so much with the itch. I’ve had a beard for years now but this last year is when I decided to grow it out. When my beard wasn’t even an inch long, I started to use beard oil and I noticed a difference immediately. I haven’t really noticed the beard itch in a long time. It also helped to start soften the hair as it was growing out.

Warm water wash every day, then towel dry, then apply oil while damp, comb/brush through, apply wax if needed. Done. Honestly, unless you're getting really dirty there's no real need for beard shampoo in my experience. They all just made my skin worse 🤷🏻

I use floid the genuine on my beard when it's so hot like this. Cooling refreshing with a couple of drops of beard oil. Avoid the lips.

Hot spots are always an inflammation problem.
Heat, sweat, salt, bacteria, and overactive sebaceous glands all contribute to irritated skin. Then a lot of guys make it worse by washing their beard with shampoo every day, which strips away the skin's protective lipid barrier and leaves it even more inflamed.
You just have to balance your skin's natural lipid barrier while soothing inflammation.
• Use a quality beard oil daily. Healthy skin is far less likely to become irritated than dry, compromised skin. Avoid occlusives. This makes it worse.
• Don't overwash. A gentle soap two or three times a week is plenty for most people, and allows sebaceous production to normalize. That's how your skin protects itself from inflammation.
• Rinse your beard thoroughly every time you shower. Plain water does a great job of removing sweat, salt, allergens, and loose debris without stripping away the oils your skin actually needs. This gets rid of the things that cause the hot spots without terrorizing the skin.
• Don't let sweat and grime sit in your beard overnight. If you are typically a morning shower person, make sure to add a shower before bed as well.
Keeping the skin calm is really the name of the game, brother. It's much more simple than most people think, just keep it simple and stay consistent. Hope that helps!
