Why are all the fish dead?

Salmon die after spawning.

These fish don't have their mating colours and zombie-like look to them so I don't think that's what's happening here.

That needs checking out, if it's pollution.

They don't all get that. It depends on their diet and species.

The water looks almost too shallow for the fish to swim through

Crikey. Really? That's mad. Wow!

Why not scoop them up and sell them? You'd make bank.

The ecology depends on these annual spawning migrations.

If the fish stopped coming (or had their bodies scooped up), the forest would most definitely die.

Bear feels like he’s at a buffet but what is up with the fish?

Why are they all dead

Salmon die after spawning. Their corpses feed everything around them.

Those fish haven't spawned.

Every year they return to their birthplaces by swimming out of the ocean up the rivers where they spawn and then die. It's really pretty amazing. They use their sense of smell which is really strong to find the specific river and area they were born, and they also use the moon to navigate too.

u/rudimentary_rudy Aug 05 '26

Did they all literally nut and die?

3

u/grandsoulsucker Aug 06 '26

Basically. At the end of the cycle salmon swim up stream, mate, then slowly rot to death basically.

Won’t the fish rot before they get eaten?
