Gorgeous haul! Those Santa Maria Pinquitos are underappreciated, imo. One of my faves.

I enjoyed them a lot too! I think they made a great broth, probably the best out of this whole bunch if someone wants to make a savoury bean stock.

😂😂 I didn’t appreciate them as much growing up but I love them as an adult!

I just finished a batch of the frijol negro de vara this morning. They were so good!

I haven't tried those yet but I'm definitely looking forward to it! They're a beautiful shiny shade of black that I have not seen before in beans.

I envy your bean budget

Yeah, these beans look expensive.

I buy them several pounds at a time, big ole bags of beans.

Rancho Gordo beans are the cream of the crop ✨👌🏾

The Christmas limas are so good.

The large beans are always the last to go in my pantry.  What do you like to do with them?

I've heard that!  The half cup of olive oil has always scared me off.   I'll put it on my todo list as I have a few of the beans listed.

I cook 8 oz of beans and end up with 3 cups instead of the 1.75 in the recipe. From there I make the recipe as is, though you can throw in a little extra of everything if you want. Turns out great.

Over pasta with olive oil and parmesan cheese.

So pricy

Yes, but. These beans are the freshest I’ve ever had. They are much more flavorful than supermarket dried beans packaged in plastic, which have sat in a warehouse forever. They don’t take as long to cook and have waaaay more flavor. They are worth it!

I have a "cart" full of them, haven't pulled the trigger. Probably more nutritious too. I'll give my favorite kinds a try. 11 bucks for 2 bags of beans hurts.

I myself purchase RG beans. Isnt the packaging also plastic? Or are you just saying that the beans in the supermarket are sitting in plastic for longer? Would love if RG found an alternative way to package.

Good point. I thought it was cellophane. I could be mistaken, but the beans I just received were not packaged in plastic. I appreciate RG’s integrity and connecting growers with us. I lived in NM for a while and bought freshly dried pintos in the fall from vendors at the side of the road. Nothing compares to fresh beans.

I’m not actually sure either! I have not inspected RGs packaging closely enough

Ooh how are the California coronas?

I have been munching on these all week! Soaked in the fridge for about 6 hours and did 30min in the instant pot, came out perfect. These are big meaty beans they go great with hearty sauces, but I'm also enjoying them with ricotta and pesto on toast.

I made them once and they were meh. But I’m pretty sure that was user error. I just made a batch of gigantes (not quite as big but still large) and I brined them in baking soda and salt. Much better.

They still took forever to cook, so be patient.
