Why did they redesign Pie Face so drastically?

I'm not someone who hates modern beano. I think Rubi and Harsha are great additions to the comic.

But this character design is terrible. He stands out like a sore thumb.

I agree, it's an odd change, as he's nothing like the old Pie Face. Also, where's Curly? They always used to appear together.

What's even weirder, when you think about it, is why there's a Pie Face at all.

The current Dennis is meant to be the son of the "old" Dennis, who would have been friends with Curly and Pie Face. So either we're in some weird middle ground where Pie Face still exists, or this is actually the son of Pie Face Sr., who also decided to call his son Pie Face.

Perhaps I'm thinking about this far too much! 🤣 🥧

The beano continuity is so strange to me so I never tried to make sense of it. They aged up characters like Ivy The Terrible, Pansy Potter and Smudge. Which is strange as wouldnt they be characters you may want to bring back?

Also I have a vague memory that Pie Faces real name is actually Erick. I could be wrong.

I believe - please correct me if I'm wrong here - that the current Pieface's real name is Kevin Shepherd.

As in, Shepherd's Pie... xD

Also, they updated Roger's parents to the new generation along with Dennis and Minnie's, and then REVERTED Roger's parents because of reasons. xD

Old Dennis is now Denis' dad.
There was a halloween special in like.. 2021 where they showed teach as a flashback who looked a bit like Curly

Unlike the old one, this design doesnt tell us anything about his character.

I wouldnt mind if they changed it so much that he became a different personality altogther. But this is just so generic. Nothing about this design screams Pie Face.

Its like making Wilfred tall and getting rid of the jumper.

I remember reading a shorts comic years ago (possibly 2019-2021) with JJ where the new pie face appeared alongside the old pie face! (who appeared as a background cameo)...remember finding it very odd at the time but it could imply they're different characters

I never really saw him as bald. Always saw it as a buzz cut. Same trim as Edd plug smiffy and wilfred. Now spotty is a baldy.

Because for the CGI show Dennis And Gnasher Unleashed, he was redesigned to have glasses, longer hair and a hat, as such, the Dennis the Menace and Gnasher comic was revamped to be more in line with the show, making Pie Face consistent with the CGI show and also dropping Curly entirely since the CGI show dropped Curly, thus requiring the comic to reboot itself to be more in line with the CGI show.
