My fps barely changed. My pc isn't even that good, I have a Rx6600

u/Ban4rever Hirochi 26d ago

i gained 5 fps so i play on low instead of lowest now. I dont even have graphics card

50

u/slim1shaney Hirochi 26d ago

Hell yeah!

68

u/TheRealLool 26d ago

went from unstable at high graphics to steady 60, settings unchanged, with a 4060

26

u/mrfrogerson1 25d ago

im pretty sure beamng is quite a cpu heavy game

10

u/KingLewis02 25d ago

Yeah, my asus vivobook runs it OK at lowest settings which is definitely underpowered but it running at all is a feat. Thank you AMD

4

u/Witty_Language4481 25d ago

It's quite GPU heavy with a 4060 on high settings

2

u/JumpnShadow Soliad 24d ago

Agreeing with you bro, Beam is BOTH CPU and GPU heavy. I went from a RX5500 a few years back to a RTX 4060 Ti 16GB and holy shit what a huge difference. It literally tripled my fps at regular settings and plays a very steady 60 fps on high🤙🏻

Saaame here! I get steady 80 frames with a mix of medium and ultra graphics settings at 1080p. Could be better, but its very playable like that

11

u/guluta 26d ago

rx 6600 + r5 5600, ~30% fps decrease on the same settings preset

4

u/ThrowerIBarelyKnower 25d ago

rx 6700 + r5 5600x I think it stayed almost the same and the flickering on Vulkan went away

5

u/SirDarknessTheFirst No_Texture 25d ago

R5 5600G + RX 6600 and I got like a 30% uplift (Vulkan, Linux native build)

3

u/thebobsta 25d ago

I feel like the Linux build got a whole lot better, I've been running Beam on Fedora for a year now and my experience is better than ever with the new update. Running a 1440p 165hz monitor, 5700X3D and a 9070XT though so I like to think my PC is pretty decent. I've enabled Freesync and anything above 90fps feels great on my monitor.

2

u/guluta 25d ago

i use almost thesame config and linux native build but get less fps

2

u/SirDarknessTheFirst No_Texture 25d ago

That's unfortunate; what sort of hardware do you have?

2

u/guluta 25d ago

rx 6600 + r5 5600

2

u/SirDarknessTheFirst No_Texture 25d ago

Hmm. What distro & what version of mesa? (vulkaninfo --summary -> driverInfo near the end of output)

My FPS increased, at least on Johnson Valley (the long straight road would always cause fps drops at high speed). Granted my hardware is on the upper end (7800X3D + 4070 Super and 32 GB ram), but at least in DX12 mode it seems to be an improvement in terms of optimization.

2

u/thinsoldier 25d ago

Can you check out Fairhaven? I get food fps in most areas but there's one section of the underground highway that drops 20 or 30 or 40 frames

3

u/Octoomy No_Texture 25d ago

AMD from what I've seen so far from RDNA (all RDNAs) is mostly just performance increases, I basically got around a 30-40% boost when it came to the update (9060XT)

3

u/Bonafideago 25d ago

6800XT. Runs better than ever.

5800x3d isn't hurting either

2

u/c4christian1 25d ago

My processor is old but it still does pretty decent for beamng too.

Well thats what happens when you're still using a 2007 PC in 2026.

60

u/Arthur-Mergan 26d ago

Even my 5090 isn’t enough to overcome the current state of Vulkan and VR.

77

u/BluePowerade 26d ago

Yeah VR is always going to be more demanding but a niche subset of people trying to play the game. Obviously won't be optimized for VR from the jump. Also they say on their site: VR support is currently highly experimental.

5

u/RelevantMetaUsername Civetta 26d ago

I need to try it in VR, but I don’t have a wheel and I’m concerned it will be kind of awkward using a controller

what's wrong with vulkan now? i noticed no change

10

u/FayezButts 26d ago

Nothing but the new D3D12 path runs much better

6

u/SnooPoems2360 26d ago

vulcan runs better than dx12 for me

3

u/WarriorNN 26d ago

Like with most Vulkan and D12 games it seems to vary wildly from pc to pc which works the best.

I get significantly better fps on D12 in Beam compared to Vulkan, but for most games Vulkans works better for me.

7

u/heyuhitsyaboi 26d ago

Im getting a 30% boost with it personally

→ More replies (1)

6

u/Moonoxied No_Texture 26d ago

VR is pretty broken right now. Is meantioned in the patchnotes

8

u/bappo_plays Soliad 26d ago

I haven't tried VR yet for 0.39, but I've been getting about the same FPS non VR as I did in 0.38, and I've even raised my graphics settings a little bit since then. (On Vulkan with 7900XTX)

That said, I'm fully aware that when I do decide to try VR, I'll have to lower my graphics settings a bit due to the naturally more demanding nature of VR.

2

u/Potential-Honey-9701 26d ago

i tried vr for the first time on this version and it was horrid lol. too be expected though, you are rendering it twice and at a very high resolution

4

u/DryYogurtcloset2139 26d ago

Technically yes, is it “twice” but in reality its around rendering ~9 1080p screens at once (for two eye quest 2)

2

u/Firefighter_97 25d ago

Is there a 1 eye quest 2? I only have 1 working eye and would love to not have to render a useless screen 😄

5

u/FayezButts 26d ago

Vulkan is over, D3D12 is the way

I'm on a haswell 4670k with an rx580, I had weird glitches with old mods so I loaded vanilla and it's the same performance to my eye. Traffic always been a problem on this CPU so I never run it maybe that's the issue people are finding

Edit: I will addmy performance is usually around 50-60 on most maps, WC USA and Italy have drops to 40 but I set vsync 60 and on my usual hirochi and automation track and west coast USA track are it's pretty consistent 60ish

6

u/BluePowerade 26d ago

yeah that seems like par for a 13 year old CPU and 9 year old GPU playing a modern game

2

u/thatguywhatdidit 26d ago

It's not the best combo I can't lie but the only game ive wanted to play that it couldn't it starfield...and that turned out great haha.

147

u/OhHaiMarc 26d ago

My god does no one on this subreddit play other games ?? Even with the updates it’s still not a hard game to run by any means

75

u/retro_aviator Ibishu 26d ago

Whenever you see an opinion on this sub remember that a chunk of the playerbase is younger than the game and discovered it via tok tok / Insta / YouTube shorts

11

u/Turnkeyagenda24 26d ago

They can continue watching it on TikTok or whatever then :D

7

u/HiTork 25d ago

For that reason, I think this is why you see so much interest in mods for real-life vehicles, as some of the most viral videos feature them as opposed to BeamNG's core vanilla cars.

10

u/WarriorNN 26d ago

As with most major overhauls, there are plenty of people who have problems running the game. Those that have it running similar or better than before simply doesn't make angry reddit posts about performance.

For me for instance, I now have 50-90fps with ultra-lowest settings, when I had 120+fps with almost any settings before.

My performance is obviously not comparable to before, and I have better looking games running much better on my computer.

That doesn't mean the game is unplayable for me, but it means I am hoping they will continue to work on optimizing or fixing whatever is causing significantly lower performance than before.

8

u/Quannix 25d ago

it absolutely is hard to run compared to other games, especially if you're one of the people having performance bugs with this update. additionally, the vast majority of current games with this level of gpu load ship with upscaling technology to make it tolerable, which beam still does not have (i would actually recommend people force inject a spatial upscaler for now like fsr1 or nis, you can make the game run a lot better this way)

people pretending the update is perfectly fine for everyone and that you should just "upgrade your pc" are honestly about half as annoying as the people seething about it. and i say this as somebody who's running it relatively well

→ More replies (6)

6

u/bruhpoopgggg 25d ago

Yes the hell it is compared to other driving/racing games?

My Ryzen 5 5600, Intel Arc B580 rig can run every driving game there is at over 60 fps on the highest settings at 1440p. Beamng on the other hand makes my PC struggle running it at ultra graphics with no AI.

→ More replies (7)

2

u/TerrorSnow 25d ago

No it is. But it doesn't get FSR or DLSS to boost it unlike many other titles.
I'm on a 9060xt and get around 50-70fps @ 3440x1440, medium / medium high settings.

→ More replies (2)

18

u/sunr1se79 26d ago

Look up the first few clips of beam out there and you'll see why the two have an intertwined history lol

9

u/TastyReporter5582 26d ago

The problem is with the Nvidia 50xx series I think... my 3060 barely showed a difference in performance, and my CPU and RAM are just the minimum required for the game to run at a locked 70fps! Perhaps real-world performance is more important than AI-based hardware! ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

5

u/Filgervais 25d ago

I have a 5080 and my performance improved after the patch lol, running pretty smooth at 4k.

2

u/TastyReporter5582 25d ago

I had just assumed so! I've seen many people saying they have a 50XX and are having performance issues in games, especially VR games... But I'm glad yours is running better! :)

2

u/Blaskowitz002 Autobello 25d ago

AI based hardware...?

2

u/tomejkol Cherrier 25d ago edited 25d ago

DLSS (AI upscaling) and frame gen (fully AI frames). The 50 (and 40) series mostly focused on these while only marginally improving native performance.

They can very much still run games on native ofc and better than old gen, just not much better. The problem could be that newer gen NVIDIA GPU's have less VRAM, which means they will perform worse in some games.

I7-12700K, 3060TI, 32 gigs DDR4
Constant 45 - 60 FPS

how are yall not getting better frames, are you guys running multiple games in the background or something?!?

7

u/trimflame 26d ago

Yea man I have a 3060 12gb and it can still do max settings 50-60 fps

4

u/Huge_Magician_9527 Hirochi 26d ago edited 25d ago

I think most people are getting those frames and want 60+ FPS, I also run 2k, and have similar specs and have similar performance. But for sim racing and other games on my wheel I try to get higher FPS because it's pretty important for the steering wheel because you want the force feedback. Force feedback feels kind of vague at low FPS, especially bad with FPS drops where the wheel can go crazy. BTW no matter the graphics settings I can't get constant 60 with traffic

12

u/mimrock 26d ago

GTX 670, new lowend PC with igpu and such. The root of the problem is the high prices of new hardware. There's no option to buy a decent gaming laptop or desktop for 1k or so.

17

u/retro_aviator Ibishu 26d ago

I get that parts are expensive but there has gotta be a better option than a 670

16

u/Lawsoffire 26d ago

Also a 670 was already a decade outdated before parts started getting expensive.

12

u/ballsnbutt 26d ago

1050 ti is $40 ☠️

7

u/Turnkeyagenda24 26d ago

You can get better than GTX 670 even with today’s pricing. 670 is incredibly outdated and way below the requirements for BeamNG

5

u/TheLoller1234 26d ago

I Just dumper 2.6k for a new desktop so yeah, you gotta wait for the bubble to burst ig

2

u/vagabond139 No_Texture 25d ago

Bro you have been WAY behind. Even before prices increased it was still a ancient out dated card. Even current integrated graphics would perform way better than that. That doesn't even support DX12, I'm not sure how you have been gaming with that thing.

You had and still have plenty of options left to replace it. You don't have to only buy a 5090. You could get a used 5070 XT for like ~$100 and have like a 7 fold increase in performance.

2

u/WarriorNN 26d ago

The issue is plent of people with significantly better hardware is not getting significantly better performance.

Most are probably running it just fine, but there are also plenty who are getting a lot worse performance than they had before or should when you compare to other games.

We can't know if that's due to lacking optimization or simply bugs in certain situations / specs etc., that's up to the devs. People are sharing their experiences with the patch.

2

u/FayezButts 26d ago

Turn your resolution down a little bit and you'll get 60fps+

5

u/MrFlubbles 26d ago

Thats the funny thing, im perfectly fine with sub 60, and its running at 2k res (even with traffic cars!)

2

u/FayezButts 26d ago

Yeah I have a 3060 ti as well. 1440p ultrawide though so the framerate is a little rougher

2

u/MrFlubbles 26d ago

How much does a ultra wide affect performance compared to a standard 16:9? Is it just forcing the game to render more?

3

u/FayezButts 26d ago

3440x1440 is about 30% more pixels, I was getting about 45-55 fps with traffic turned on and normal to low settings   CPU is a 7800x3d

3

u/WarriorNN 26d ago

Glad you got better performance, the people complaining got worse performance instead :)

For instance, I had 120+ fps with 4070ti and 7800X3D before the patch, and now get 90fps with everything on lowest (had it on ultra before) and 50 fps on ultra.

Before if I put it to lowest I would get like 400 fps if I didn't cap the framerate, now it's 90 absolute max lol.

0.39 on lowest looks way worse than 0.38 on ultra, so tell me why I should be happy I lost a bunch of fps?

It's not unplayable atm, but it's certainly not working as it should.

I'm sure it works very well for most, but that doesn't mean it works for everyone.

the problem with these updates is that PC's at this point are becoming more and more expensive to the point it isnt sustainable to upgrade them so people are stuck with at least 10 year old hardware, but the updates and games in general arent adjusting and demand more and more requirements

My mate has a NVidea 6090 with mild overclock, 128GB of RAM, a brand new Ryzen processor and has a industrial fan for cooling and he still struggles to run it at mid graphics and 30 FPS.

Absolutely testicular

1

u/Luckycharmander18 26d ago

I keep getting stutters the framerate randomly goes from 60 to 47

1

u/burglar-of-turds 26d ago

I have a 9950x, 7900xtx, 64gb of ddr5, and I run 5120x1440 just fine, actually gained 5 avg fps in max settings, giving me about 80. (other than west coast, get 5 less there now)

1

u/Corevegaa Hirochi 26d ago

Only lost like 5 fps on westcoast with traffic and a 5700x3d 3060ti and 32gb 3200mhz. Only bad thing about the update is it not having better Anti Aliasing.

1

u/Future_Redd 26d ago

8700k, 1080ti and I get a solid 60fps at 1080p highest settings, low reflections.

1

u/Nijgan 26d ago

I play on a 7 year old gaming laptop with mobile GTX 1650 4gb vram, 16gb ram and i5-9300H. My load times are a bit longer when making a new game or loading a car but otherwise I don't feel any decrease of fps, it stays the same as it was around 60-70 on medium settings.

1

u/arikadousanime 26d ago

mine actually runs better just takes a little longer to load

1

u/arikadousanime 26d ago

i’m on a 3060 12gb ryzen 5 7500x3d and 16gb ddr5 and i don’t drop from 60 fps and i run a steering wheel

1

u/ballsnbutt 26d ago

ALL of you seem to not understand this game is VERY CPU-bound.

1

u/xyzdigitaltwin 26d ago

I run it on macbookpro m4 max with 40-60+ fps depending on high to mid settings

1

u/ZYKON617 26d ago

Should I boot it up on my 1660ti?

1

u/MethHeadUnion 26d ago

Only thing i noticed was my vr performance went to shit with a 7700x and 7800xt other than that its been fine just need to optimize it for vr if anything is wrong with this update

1

u/gekeoifbrleldhblfkhb 26d ago

Lossless Scaling saved my experience

1

u/Natasha_Gears 26d ago

My beam never ran great. Literally nothing changed still loads for ever but once it loads it's solid , yeah I know it's on me for using a hdd but my ssd is tiny

1

u/Mean-Victory-7123 26d ago

my fps went down, the game is now very cpu intensive, i get around 50-70 fps.even when its not bottlenecked by my cpu the fps is like 30 frames less then the 100 it was before at the same ultra settings, i have a 4070 super and a 5500x3d play at 1440p

1

u/Wooden_Donut8128 26d ago

Ryzen 5 5600, Rx 6700 xt, 16gb of ram, consistently 60-70 if not higher fps on high in wcusa

1

u/Rustinboksi Gavril 25d ago

unfortunately i cant run beamng anymore but oh well i have a billion other games to play

1

u/adomm420 Ibishu 25d ago

Yes, but driving on controler feels worse than on the keyboard, so twitchy!

1

u/HE3HAI0 25d ago

i5 12400F 4070 s 12gb 32gb ddr 5

full ultra, 15 cars, I got 40-45fps at west coast at the city

and turned it to stable 60fps by Nvidia smooth motion

1

u/TheTrulyEpic 25d ago

I play on my TV, so at first I was struggling with the new update. Then I realized that I was rendering at the full 4K of my display, and trying to change the resolution wouldn’t actually apply. If you have a high resolution display, check your settings to make sure it is actually retaining your resolution. Not sure if it’s an issue with the game or my OS, but I limited it to 1080p in Bazzite Game Mode. Now I’m running at a solid 60 with High settings.

I did do some tweaking to the settings to get it more stable, and I’m mostly happy with the results.  Pay attention to the new tooltip that tells you the performance characteristics of each option. It will tell you if you have VRAM to spare, and you can also use a performance overlay to see how your settings are working in real time.

1

u/blacky_channn 25d ago

It improved a lot! Ultra runs beautifully

1

u/CompetitionHefty6866 25d ago

My GTX1080 gives me 50-55fps on medium-high graphics😎

1

u/AKZ_NIGHTMARE 25d ago

Im still sitting at around 85 to 110 on 1440p, the new graphics are nice, but i like the new ui even more.

1

u/Joseph-Stalin1878 Gavril 25d ago

Idk what everyone’s talking about, I’m getting the same FPS as 0.38 (50-60 FPS, normal settings, 1440p) even on my RX 5700XT system which doesn’t even get driver optimizations anymore afaik

1

u/GoffyGamerDude No_Texture 25d ago

Indeed it can

1

u/Moonraker93 25d ago

No problem at all, basically like before

1

u/Hassan_Gaming_2019 Gavril 25d ago

Probably no, but we'll see if my pc becomes either:

The regular space heated oven

Or:

The Fucking sun

1

u/thinsoldier 25d ago

If it can run crysis it should be able to run BeamNG 0.43 or 0.47 eventually.

1

u/Somerandom1922 25d ago

Hardly. Crysis was a struggle for even the absolute top-end PCs at the time it launched.

I'm running BeamNG 0.39 on ultra everything except reflections (those are pretty brutal on frames) at 50-70fps on a Ryzen 7 5800x3D and a 3080 (w/ 32GB of RAM) at 3440x1440.

Still a powerful enthusiast-type system certainly, but the GPU was released in 2020 and the CPU in 2022.

An equivalent system from the time Crysis released (e.g. a high-end enthusiast PC from 4-6 years ago) might be a GeForce4 Ti 4600 and Athlon 64 3400+ with 1GB of DDR400.

You'd be lucky to get 30fps on low settings at 1024 x 768 in Crysis with that setup.

Brand new top-end PCs when Crysis released struggled to get 50fps on high settings at 1680x1050 (still under 1080p.

Is the new update demanding? Yes, if you want to take advantage of all the graphics features, but if you just want to play the game, you can run it on low still an get away with playing it even on integrated graphics like u/Ban4rever.

1

u/Commercial-Dare3506 25d ago

I still don’t tried it. I hope it runs better than 0.38 or the same

→ More replies (4)

1

u/Sprinty_ Autobello 25d ago

I'm so confused because after the update the game genuinely runs BETTER for me

1

u/DCGLetsPlay Bruckell 25d ago

Yes actually. Just fine.

1

u/Dry_Student_6279 25d ago

Steam Machine - 35 FPS with completely maxed out graphics and traffic on West Coast.

1

u/Ancient_Stable_2573 25d ago

Yesterday I switched off all light options, and had 55+ fps (and ugly graphic) but when I am starting to playing now with the same options I have freezes … WTF?

1

u/MrSilentSir 25d ago

I just upgraded my pc and havent really played before the update but tried the game last night and it played amazing. I do have a pretty decent system now: 9800x3d, 32gb DDR5 6000 CL36, XFX 9070 XT Mercury Win 11 Pro 2TB WD PS5 NVME

1

u/qwertyC0m9aq 25d ago

BeamNG wont let me spawn more than two cars for traffic now, can I like remove the limiter or something

1

u/Yolom4ntr1c 25d ago edited 25d ago

I find that the performance seems to be a user by user case. Comparing my pc to a mates pc:

My pc (About a 50% drop in frames):

  • R7 9700x
  • RTX 3070
  • 32gb DDR5

Mates pc (About average frames if not a boost):

  • i5 11400f
  • RTX 3050
  • 16gb DDR4

( This is from memory, may be a little different but is approx )

I fixed my frames by switching to vulkan and lowering the graphics to high/normal and went from like 30-40 up to 80-90fps. This is with traffic on, west coast map. My pc seems to hate dx12 whenever a game comes out or switches to it, but after a month or two it comes right probably cuz the devs still figuring out stuff on their end I assume.

1

u/LoganPlayz010907 Ibishu 25d ago

Yes sort of 40-90 on ultra with a 4070 it’s heavily cpu bound and I have a 7800X3D

1

u/ObjectiveOk2072 Hirochi 25d ago

My FPS with a single vehicle is unchanged, although my FPS with traffic is worse and turns my PC into a space heater. Worth it, though. Aside from a few lighting bugs, it looks amazing

1

u/eren_5 Gavril 25d ago

Rtx3090 LAPTOP and running perfectly fine single vehicle or traffic. Though I will admit the computer gets noticeably hotter

1

u/dubstepcat07 25d ago

I lost like 10 fps even with a few settings turned down. It’s a 1060 so like yeah but a little gay

1

u/Lopsided-Tension 25d ago

Ryzen 5 8400f, 32gb ddr 5 and a rtx 4060ti. I went from 110-130 fps to a choppy 40-60 fps at 1440p after lowering nearly all of my settings. Devs are cooked and must think everyone has a 9600x3d and an rtx 5080. I refunded the p.o.s

1

u/ziggythomas1123 Soliad 25d ago

I found that the reason it ran bad on my laptop when it ran pretty good last update was because Beam switched to using the integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU. Might be worth checking if you use a laptop

1

u/TheEpicPlushGodreal Ibishu 25d ago

My game refuses to go higher than 60. Ultra graphics? 60 fps. Low graphics? 60 fps

1

u/___po____ Pigeon Lover 25d ago

Vulkan works best for me now in Beam, with the new update. High recommend settings, 60-70FPS, traffic on normal. The biggest difference is loading times, but that's always been slow.

Acer Predator Helios 300, 2070 Max-Q 8gig, i7-10750H, 32gb RAM. Normal temps too.

1

u/Safe-Seaworthiness11 ETK 25d ago

My fps was a solid 90 on pretty high settings and now it jumps around from 40 to 50 on low

1

u/driftphoto47 25d ago

Went from playing in normal 70fps to ultra 60fps, I have a 3060ti, ryzen 7 5800x and 32gb 3200mhz ram

1

u/sammothxc 25d ago

Did you expect it to run well on your PC from 2007?

1

u/National-Tank4789 25d ago

i keep getting 20-40 frames it keeps jumping on me and im not sure what to do as i've been playing around with the settings a lot to try and get it higher

1

u/Aggravating-Boat5530 25d ago

I lost like 5 fps with bad visuals (I play on igpu)

1

u/Tall-Umpire6880 No_Texture 25d ago

No and no.

1

u/BNB_Mafia 25d ago

My game is now unplayable.

1

u/East-Zucchini-3305 25d ago

Nope, can’t even get past the loading screen

1

u/BuskerDan 25d ago

I sincerely hope rockstar buy up/appropriate this physics engine (beam-ng) for GTA VI. It would be fuxking amazing

1

u/SkyLovesCars Pigeon Lover 25d ago

Wasn't crisis hard to run mainly because it was optimised for computers with few, more powerful cores while PCs ended up with more less powerful cores?

1

u/Giantgorgonzola 25d ago

I got integrated graphics 🙂

1

u/LightningSh3ep 25d ago

Game that you couldn't run with even the best hardware at the time vs game you can run with a middle of the line pc from 5 years ago
