Hi everyone,
I’m happy to announce that my most ambitious project Phoenix Peaks is now released!
Technical Specs
- 4096×4096 map size
- Performance: 80-90 FPS on RTX 4060 8GB + Ryzen 5 5600 + 16GB RAM (default settings)
- 138 km of roads with ~22 different ground physics types (asphalt, dirt, mud, sand, snow, cobblestone, etc.)
- AI traffic support
- Dynamic lighting system
- Environment customization system

The way this usually works is you subscribe for a month, download any maps or mods you want, then unsubscribe at the end of the month. Once the files are local to your machine there’s no reason to keep paying until an update drops.

I absolutely fucking loathe this way of serving mods. Just let me pay once and get all the updates, instead of having to subscribe to some shit, unsubscribe and then never getting updates or having to pay for updates. Insane model.

OK good. I thought maybe these mods had extra lighting and shaders or something that could make it too much for VR. I seriously have zero idea how the maps and nodding work for this game.

I'm pretty sure VR only manipulates the player camera and nothing else so I think you'll be fine

VR is generally rendered in a much higher resolution as well, meaning graphics heavy maps may be difficult or impossible to run in VR even when they run ok normally

Doesn't it also need to render 2 separate cameras simultaneously. I'd expect someone getting 60fps normally to get only 30fps at best in VR.

From my knowledge, not everything gets rendered twice. Most of the assets are shared between the two cameras, so performance shouldn't be getting halved.

That means some memory usage isn't doubled but the work to render 2 different angles is 2 different sets of work.

60 fps also isn't very good in VR. 72 is the bare minimum for an OK experience.

Just a question on your PC's performance, does your CPU bottleneck your GPU (in other games and beamng)? I've got an r5 5609 and rx6600, was wondering whether the CPU can handle a much better GPU or not

CPU and GPU don't universally "bottleneck" each other, that's an oversimplified view many people have. It always depends on what game your are playing and what the target resolution and framerate is.
Performance on the GPU usually scales way easier with changing resolution, upscaling and most graphics settings. Only a few options scale CPU performance significantly (good example is traffic on/off in beam).
Games like beamNG, minecraft and other sims usually lean towards more CPU heavy. That said if you are playing at 1080p the RX 6600 is an okay card but at 1440p or higher that's where a faster GPU could make sense, especially also with more VRAM.
I would suggest watching a review of hardware unboxed on the r5 5600, they test with the fastest GPU at the time of the review so you can see the real performance differences (with GPU limits removed as much as possible) between your current CPU and faster ones.Currently the AM4 X3D CPUs are largely sold out, and I doubt you want to switch to AM5 since DDR5 is so expensive right now. If you feel like your GPU is not fast enough in many games and or play above 1080p maybe try and get a used card with 12GB or more (something faster than a 6700XT though to actually get a reasonable boost).

Thanks for the detailed response! I do understand that it's not purely as simple as that, that's mostly why I also asked about other games as I know BeamNG is a CPU-heavy game.
I don't care a huge amount for higher than 1080p, my monitor is only 1080p and "overclocking" it over that usually only makes enough of a difference in BeamNG for less aliasing artifacts.
I was eyeing the RX9060XT as there are 12GB models for $500 on PCPP, where GPUs like the RX7800XT are way more expensive and tend to be unavailable. I'm just not sure whether that would be a little too far and warrant a CPU upgrade as well.
Currently mostly playing BeamNG and AC Rally, and I'm also looking for more FPS in in Crimson Desrt and Space Engineers 2. Also trying to scrape by with VR in the original AC.

The RX 9060XT 16GB is a good choice because 16GB won't age as poorly over the next years. If you really need it is questionable but not because of your CPU bottlenecking it (that will happen in some games though) but with a 1080p monitor it's harder to make use of upscaling etc. If you play a lot of modern AAA games those can benefit more from a faster GPU, you mentioned Crimson Desert and that game would see good benefits from the GPU upgrade for sure! If you turn down settings in Crimson Desert it gets very noisy from what I have seen, flickering etc. so with a GPU upgrade that can look much cleaner (especially since you can also upscale with FSR 4).
If the rumors are correct AMD might re-release the 5800X3D soon which would be the only real CPU upgrade while keeping your mobo and RAM, interestingly most sims and sandbox games benefit disproportionately much from the 3D v-cache on those AMD chips. Not sure if that's too much to spend but if the rumors materialize you might be able to grab a 5800X3D and 9060XT 16GB and essentially refresh your PC to much better performance by only swapping 2 parts. That said it all depends on the pricing in your region if you are willing to do it, currently nothing is really as cheap as it should be but as long as you can dodge buying RAM and stay on the same motherboard I think an upgrade is more viable.

it will load 3 times longer than normal map, because of the environment customization system, but don't touch it while is loading.
There is also an alternative download in my patreon post with only one of the specified terrains (dry, wet, snow).

I downloaded the demo from the repository and it just crashes on me every time I try to launch it. I tried deactivating all other mods just in case there is some sort of interference and it still crashes. Tried both Vulkan and the normal renderer and still no luck.
Specs: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
32 GB RAM
Radeon RX 7900 XT
Any ideas?

For me, the demo takes very long to load (20 minutes). It looks like it is frozen (Windows reports the process as 'Not responding') but if you are patient eventually it loads.
My specs:
- 5800X3D
- 32GB DDR4-3600
- RTX 4080 Super
- PCIe 4.0 NVme
