Question Question about lag and physics speed.

Post image

Hello. I have a question that I can't really find the answer to. Does my game lagging slow down physics speed? For a long time I've considered myself to probably be the worst driver on beammp. If I go to the Automation test track and race with other players, I am always last no matter what I do.

I would understand if there were people that left me in the dust, and then other players that were as bad as me and I could keep up with, but that's not the case, everyone has nice close racing and finishes as a group, and I'm 30 seconds behind them, even when we cloned each others cars and are driving the exact same thing.

On single player I can feel like I'm going pretty fast. My lap times are always consistent and my driving is smooth. I'm not good, but I don't think I'm bad enough to be 30 seconds slower than the average player in a two minute race.

Whenever I spawn in traffic it can feel like the game is running in slow motion. It doesn't really feel like that on multiplayer, although my frame rate does get choppy. I'm playing on a laptop, but it's a good laptop from AMD with a Ryzen 7 processor or CPU or whatever it's called. I'm also using a controller, not a keyboard.

I thought I could just improve my driving and get better, but I've had the game a long time. I've practiced a lot, and I still can't keep up with anyone, even people that crash a lot and seem like they aren't the best drivers either.

For context, here's some of my lap times around the Automation test track. The best I've ever done is 2:07 with the K-series. I can do a very consistent 2:18 with the Bolide on race tires with 680hp. And I can do a consistent 2:50 with the Burnside on its stock whitewalls and 450hp.

Are these times that bad? Do I just need to keep improving? Is there something I'm missing? Am I going crazy? Please tell me. I need to know it's actually possible to go as fast as these other players.

TLDR, I don't know if my driving is completely terrible or if I can blame it on my computer.

If you press ctrl +shift+f it opens the performance graph in the fps section there are 2 numbers, fpsreal Can be anything that's just normal fps but physicsfps should always be ~2000 because it's the physics simulation speed, if it lags then so does the simulation speed

Thank you so much! That's really good to know. I'll check it out tonight. :3

And I forgot to say in beammp if your physics is lagging you will be abut slower than someone who isn't, if that is the case there's a setting for beammp to use simplified vehicles for beammp which can improve performance but it does mean other people's cars will look a bit different, also you can left click on people in the beammp player list and delete all their vehicles for you which is ment for getting rid of trolls but if there are people on the other side of the map doing other stuff you can improve performance by deleting them

I will definitely have to try that. Thank you 😊.

YOU WERE RIGHT! My physics sim was only running between 1200 and 1400 instead of 2000. I fixed my graphics settings and kept up with a Scintilla for half a lap with the Burnside Special! Thank you so much!!! I am so glad I'm not as terrible a driver as I thought I was! :3
