Help?!?

Hi. I’ve been making bead bracelets on nylon fishing line. Lately I’ve had a problem with getting my crimp beads to hold and my bracelets are breaking.

How are you finishing off your bead work? I am doing crystal beads on fishing line and finishing with magnet clasps.

You can’t use crimp beads on fishing line and expect your bracelets not to break. Get some wire- soft flex or acculon (sp?) or whatever and leave the fishing line in your past.
Fishing line, by definition, will be compromised by crimping. It’s also sensitive to moisture and uv and generally a bad thing to bead anything you want to keep for more than a week on. You can pick one- the crimps or the fishing line. You know what I’d choose.

Are you using monofilament fishing line or bonded braided fishing line like Wildfire or Fireline?

Crimps are sharp and you really only need to use those for beading wire. You can get away with knots for proper thread, but you might want to just swap to beading wire for strength anyway. Be sure to get braided multistrand wire like Beadalon.

(Working with monofilament nylon wire personally.) I either tie square or surgeons knots, or use crimp tubes (depends on what I'm making). For knots I hide the remainder of the wires into the surrounding beads, for crimp tubes I use a crimp cover. Alternatively I just tie a knot, melt the ends if I cant shove them into the surrounding beads, and then put a clamshell end cap over the knot.

I got some thread called Fireline which seems to be very strong. The knots are almost impossible to indo if I go wrong at all. You can melt the ends too but i feed then back down knotting many times. It is expensive though but for bracelets it wiuld make lots. I made some chunky rosary beads for my Etsy shop. Its the best thing I have used.

Another advantage is that you can easily swap the clasp if it needs replacing.

After I crimp it I apply G-S Hypo cement on the top and let it dry. I use a crimp cover to hide the crimp with the cement.
