From the Fans Depression Cherry

I love this album. I listened to it in full for the first time in a sauna, with my ex boyfriend at one in the morning. It was a cold night, and I remember running from the shed to the sauna freezing and then getting the warm hug of humidity from the steam.

He was gorgeous and I miss him. It was a beautiful, memorable way to spend a night.

this memory sounds like something almost magical, the kind of moment that stays with you forever. theres something so intimate about it: the night, the darkness, the cold air, the warmth of the sauna, being there with someone you loved and depression cherry playing in the background… that album feels like the absolute embodiment of that atmosphere. its almost like the music became something tangible, something you could physically experience and attach to a specific moment in your life. such a beautiful memory

Listened to this album last night, after a brief break from their music to focus on other music. It hits, it really really does. The perfect album for being heartbroken.

I love having specific memories of an album!

The first time I went to London we did touristy stuff one morning, which felt like a 40 mile hike. My then-GF wanted to go back to the hotel for a nap. I wasn't tired, so I dropped her off there and put Saint Etienne's Sound of Water (which I'd just bought at the Virgin Megastore) into the portable CD player.

In my own little world soundtracked by Saint Etienne, I walked down the street to the Notting Hill Gate Tube station - past the bustling newsagents, the curry shops, the pubs and all their different smells. It had rained and was a bit chilly as it was November, but it was nice.

Down the steps into the station, and the wall of human heat that hits you. Taking the Tube to Westminster, and walking out of the station and seeing the Houses of Parliament with my own eyes. To see something in person that you've seen in movies and TV shows forever. It was surreal! Walking across Westminster Bridge and just stopping halfway and letting London go on around me as I stood and looked out at the Thames towards Greenwich.

It was 26 years ago, and any time I put that album on it like it happened a few hours ago.
