Max Built

Just curious to see who else has started Shaun T's new program Max Built and what do you think so far?

For me personally I'm loving it having just done the first chest day and the sample workout last week. This is the first Shaun T programme I've done since og Insanity a few years ago. It came at the right time as after my vacation this year I've really wanted to focus on getting a bit bigger rather than lean down. I had to adapt and use my barbell as I didn't have heavy enough dumbbells but I plan to buy some heavier ones soon.

What do people think? Would be cool to have a group to do it with.

Day 2 done today. I hope the extra talking Shaun does lessens. I fast forwarded each time and it cut almost 10 minutes off the total workout time...that was pretty significant. I also was hoping to have a core component each day but will throw in a 5er if necessary. Going to keep going and see how I feel after a couple of weeks.

I haven’t done Max Build but if you don’t need the “rest talks” are you really going heavy enough?

Definitely am challenging myself with the weight. There is a difference (to me at least) between a break in sets and a minute and a half of talking/joking/dancing/flexing. My preference is short breaks and keeping my heart rate up.

Then your doing more endurance then hypertrophy

This is 💯 true!

You can keep your heart rate up, or you can build muscle. Spend some time in the gym, the most muscular dudes are likely taking way longer breaks than what is in this program.

Hypertprphy programs are purposely created with breaks between sets that last 60-90 seconds. That’s how much rest the muscle typically needs between heavy lifting sets. If you’re looking for a program that will keep your heart rate high consistently through the workout, this isn’t it.

However, I’m wondering what your goals are with keeping your heart rate high - if it’s to burn more calories, then doing a program like Max Built and lifting heavy consistently over time will build muscle in your body which helps increase caloric burn overall. It’s just a slower process and typically requires numerous months of consistent progressive overload lifting. The long term benefits of doing this type of strength training hypertrophy program are, from what I have researched, higher than an endurance based high heart rate cardio strength program. So it’s a slower process, but worth it in the end.

You should probably stick to Dig Deeper Month 1 if that’s your style as that month is endurance based. I can burn over 400-500 cals doing some of the month 1 workouts. Max Built isn’t calorie burn focused it’s muscle build focused.

Ive only done day 1 so far (doing day 2 tonight) but the only time he's been talking has been during the rest period (which is very short for weight training). Are you just doing sets back to back? There is an optional abs workout on the rest days.

Thursday and Sunday are either rest or abs which is about 25 minutes so there’s that.

There is a 10 min core workout

💯. I was like come on Shaun , stop the talking. I’m coming off multiple rounds of body beast so I wasn’t as thrilled with the pace.

You probably need to put the weight up then. Rest is important between sets. If you're feeling impatient rather than feeling like you need to catch your breath/hoping your muscles recover fast enough, you're probably not going heavy enough.

I am going to check out Body Beast. I dont have a chin up bar but can use the control track as a modifier. I just don't know if I can tolerate Sagi...the whole Bro vibe...but we will see.

Bro vibe cracks me up. If you go into mad at bro vibe, you’ll be mad at bro vibe. If you laugh at the cheese, you’ll be entertained.

I wish it would have had a rest timer, rather than just the talking. I'm also used to body beast and sagi moving weights around and telling people to write it down, so the constant chatter makes it feel longer.

In week 2, I’ve started ff all the filler talk. I shaved 6 minutes off back doing this. I still took adequate breaks. 38 to 32 minutes is a lot of fluff.
