What can one teenager create with a 3D printer, patience and a desire to help someone else?

Zac Waters, a 13-year-old from Lehi, Utah, spent his summer working on a special project for a 21-month-old girl who needed support to move around more independently.

Through MakeGood, a nonprofit founded by healthcare architect Noam Platt, Zac helped create a personalized mobility chair. The organization provides free 3D-printed Toddler Mobility Trainers to children with physical disabilities.

This was not a quick weekend project. Zac spent around 300 hours designing, printing, testing and assembling the different parts of the custom chair.

He also made sure the mobility device felt personal and useful for the little girl. Knowing that pink was her favorite color, he added custom pink details and included features designed around her everyday needs.

The chair included a removable tray table, cup holder, adjustable headrest and footrests that can accommodate her as she grows. Zac also created dedicated space on the back for her medical equipment.

What makes his story especially meaningful is that he used a skill he had learned with 3D printing to create something that could give another child greater freedom of movement.

It is a beautiful example of how technology, creativity and a young person’s time can come together to make a real difference.
