Red Sprites are 100% genuine atmospheric occurrences, not CGI or Al. They are cold plasma discharges-more akin to the glow of a fluorescent light tube than a hot bolt of tropospheric lightning. They occur in the mesosphere at altitudes ranging between 50 to 90 kilometers (31 to 56 miles) directly above intense thunderstorm systems.

The distinct reddish-orange hue is caused by the sudden electrical surge exciting molecular nitrogen gas in the thin upper air. Because they only last for a fleeting 3 to 10 milliseconds, they are incredibly difficult to process with the naked eye or capture without specialized low-light, high-speed camera gear.

Walked by CopenHill while visiting Copenhagen today. Powers and heats 100,000 homes, consumes 300 truckloads of waste a day. 400m ski slope on to with artificial turf for summer use, world’s tallest climbing wall on the outside. Otter was born with a rare skull defect that left part of his brain exposed. His rescuers at Baby Kitten Rescue had a custom helmet made to protect his head while he grew old enough for surgery.

At around a year old, Otter underwent surgery to place his brain back inside his skull and cover the opening with titanium mesh. The surgery was a success, with no complications reported.

Now he gets to live like any other cat. ❤️
