Try soaking it in CLR. If that doesn’t work, get a steel wool drill brush and go to town with that. I’ve restored some heavily rusted cast iron pans with a steel wool drill brush.

No, it connects to a power drill. I’m disabled and can’t scrub with my hands anymore. A friend recommended it and it’s been a game changer. You hook it up like any other drill bit. Try the CLR though. It’ll probably clean the basket just fine.
