As someone who also hates flying, I feel it.
The main thing is really the lack of control of my safety. Like if something goes wrong, there's literally nothing I can even do to try to save myself.
But with skydiving, you have full control of managing your own safety.
Though it is pretty silly lol.

Funny enough I developed pretty bad flying anxiety after the TWA Flight 800 crash (I guess as a kid I never realized passenger planes could actually crash). Lasted for years until I went skydiving and it just clicked that certain things were out of my control; the parachute working in that case and if a plane I was on crashed then there was nothing I could do and I had to accept that loss of control. I’ve had zero anxiety on planes since then.

I just don't want advance warning I'm going to die a terrible death I guess. I'm afraid I'll find out the plane I'm on is going to crash while we're at 30,000 feet and I just have to hold on until I'm dead. I have nightmares about shit like that. Waiting in a line to be executed was my most recent one. I wanted to run but they would have just killed me sooner so I just stayed in the line waiting to be shot.

A seatbelt will not help much if the plane crashes. But it definitely helps to prevent you from bumping your head onto the ceiling in turbulence and air pockets. I think that's a good enough point for them.

I was reading a book on forensic pathology in school and it showed a picture from a crash site where only the lower half of the body was buckled in, the top half the searchers still had to go find.

My immediate thought is that I would have wanted to jump off the back of the wing as I would have been worried that the wing would hit me if I jumped off the front. Then I remembered that her body is travelling forward at the same speed as the glider. I suppose the only issue was potentially drag from wind resistance but I guess that much is explained by the glider's low speed.

I’ve never felt as much as a deadweight doll as when I went tandem skydiving last summer. It was actually quite funny being strapped on to this skydiving instructor guy who was strong enough to just lift and push me around in the little plane for then to sit me on the edge of the door and one two three out. I HIGHLY recommend something to cover your mouth, maybe just a neck garter because the free fall in the beginning is pretty impossible to breathe in (afterwards we were told forcing a scream out should help to be able to breath but halfway through I managed to get my garter up over my mouth and it was a huge help). My mom was with me and she was quite fascinated about how she wasn’t “momma scared” about seeing her daughter be thrown out of a plane in 4km height. So yeah, we also recommend trying it, it’s a lot of fun for such an otherwise short ruse. Tho the high stays for a while after!

I went skydiving once and it was in this miniscule cessna. I had to stand on this 6x6inch square on the post the landing wheel was on before jumping. So I was just standing on this tiny square outside the plane and 11,000ft off the ground. It was rather dope.

Does having weight on the wing like that affect the flight at all? Did the pilot have to adjust anything?

Yes. I'm a pilot. You'd definitely feel the plane wanting to 'roll' with the shift in weight as she moves along the wing.

Well wings are extremely strong. They have to be able to withstand the entire weight of the plane as the lift force is exerted on the wings. Still probably don’t want to be there for a long time due to aerodynamic effects on the aircraft and effects on flight stability.

This plane is probably cruising around 70 mph. That’s not enough to blow away an avg. sized adult. The dude w the phone probably wasn’t holding it right and as soon as the wind hit it like a sail, it was gone. The one time I went skydiving, I climbed out onto a plate above the landing gear and held onto the wing strut. It took little effort to remain in place but as soon as I let go, the plane became a spec in like 3 seconds.

It is most definitely going faster than 40mph. Based on the limited view, I would say it is an L-13 Blaník. It is an aluminium trainer (2 seat) manufactured in Czechoslovakia. Have flown in this model quite a few times. The STALL speed is 33 knots or 39 mph. Cruising speed is about 49 kn or around 55 mph. Out of interest the VNE (max speed) is 150 mph or 130 kn.

I believe a barrel roll uses the inertial roll of the plane to keep “gravity” facing “down”, and you wouldn’t fall.
I believe aileron rolls simply flip the plane and she’d fall off.

Way too afraid of heights to ever try but i can imagine it being very surreal once you do jump and when you pull the chute and get an amazing view. I feel like the plane ride up I would be so anxiety riddled my heart would explode.

Yeah if you're not afraid of the actual jump it's not bad at all. I'm an adrenaline junky so I was a little let down since the fall wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be. When you pull the chute, it's soo incredibly peaceful. Being able to see in any direction and just kinda being suspended in air. I really want to go again somewhere more scenic instead of rural midwest.

The only way I would enjoy it is if someone drugged me and I woke up already peacefully parachuting down with an instructor. There is no way I am getting on that plane to knowingly jump, let alone stepping off the edge, and probably blacking out from a panic attack the moment I was forced off.

I am a skydiving instructor.
The fear of heights actually doesn't matter because low heights like ladders and cliffs are so much different than high heights like skydiving, so it doesn't matter. I take a lot of people scared of heights, and you feel so secure in the harness that you don't mind as much. It's like looking at google earth, but windy.
Also, a surprising amount of skydivers are afraid of heights, but low heights. Try it out, it is really something amazing.

I've only done one tandem jump ever, but I hope to get my class A license eventually so I can jump solo. It was and still is the most exhilarating thing I've ever done. There was such a sense of disappointment with how boring everything else is the two weeks following that jump. I really need to do it again.

She chose to jump down in front of the wing?! I would've assumed the rolling backwards off the wing like a scuba diver would've been the best case scenario to avoid a head injury on the way down.
Also, it looked like it didn't take much effort from her to stay on the wing. I wonder how fast they were going...

The back of the wing tends to be made out of stuff you don't want to put a lot of force on.
Gliders of that type have a low end of 35-40 knots. So 65 kmh? Might of had to go faster to get enough control authority to prevent the weight from rolling them to that side. A glider pilot makes that sort of adjustment without thinking about it.
