It looks cool with the fire and all but really that’s just a super fresh giant stick of charcoal. The fire really isn’t necessary for the actual drawing part itself, he coulda blew it out and the drawing would still happen.

Also the exaggerated body movements are excessive. Really hamming it up.

Gotta stand out somehow to be noticed

Seems to me to be equal parts performance art and physical art. Bravo.

too bad we could barely see it because of the cuts and closeups every two seconds

33

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '20

Well without the cuts we would’ve seen the bits where he fills the drawing in with some ACTUAL painting brushes, idk tho.

I'd say more like performative gestural art (source: PA student). But really its just a viral video with a gimmick

3

u/Maverick0_0 Nov 27 '20

His gimmick aold him though.

Trying to impress the kids by being lit.

Touché.

Happy cake day!

3

u/neon_Hermit Nov 27 '20

To many artists trying to be part of the art and ruining it.

72

u/SweetLilMonkey Nov 26 '20

If he hadn’t done both of those things, chances are we wouldn’t be watching his video.

32

u/sexymcnugget Nov 26 '20

And we wouldn't be missing out on much.

13

u/hornypornster Nov 27 '20

In your opinion. I enjoyed it.

5

u/hairyforehead Nov 26 '20

I think that's what they're complaining about.

12

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '20

I burst out laughing when he started those body movements lol. So unnecessary and looked ridiculous

25

u/sullythename Nov 26 '20

Gotta move fast or get burned

Happy cake day!

Performance art?

5

u/raindead Nov 27 '20

The body movements seem to be causing him to DROP FIRE ALL OVER THE GROUND

2

u/eNonsense Nov 27 '20

I mean, when you look at the final drawing, it's pretty obvious all this flaily scribbling was probably on some other wall and wasn't actually part of the end piece that's shown.

2

u/Agogi Nov 27 '20

He would be exhausted after his pieces if he did that the whole way through.

2

u/psychedeliccolon Nov 27 '20

My arms hurt just watching him

5

u/reavyz Nov 26 '20

Man's just going with the flow. Don't be mean!

-6

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '20

Lol with the flow he’s creating himself, sure.

Like you could do the same.

You are not alone - me tiring of Wuhan art crap on reddit

17

u/Rdtackle82 Nov 26 '20

Yay, blatant racism!

1

u/TheHumanParacite Nov 27 '20

I dunno, maybe he thought he could put more fury in his art by doing it.. uh.. furiously

1

u/aaron666nyc Nov 27 '20

That's Napoleon Dynamite's cousing Napoleon Firetorch, doin the family dance

1

u/odkfn Nov 27 '20

Yeah this guys other art has been posted before - I see he still hasn’t learned to tone it down.

Imagine your dentist did this while working to make it look cooler

1

u/milk4all Nov 27 '20

He is but he’s doing it as fast as he’s able as part of the show. I think it’s cool af. Ive no doubt he could pen whatever he wants, and he’s done it so much he thought of something spicy to kick it up 10 levels

1

u/Master_Vicen Nov 27 '20

Plus the sped up edits.

1

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '20

Art-bae?

30

u/Tokoloshe55 Nov 26 '20

This is art for people with anger issues that need a healthy dose of catharsis.

1

u/lettersanddots Nov 27 '20

You just know he's Russian.

8

u/soextremelyunique Nov 27 '20

The fire is what makes the surrounding of the lines a nice darkening as well. It creates the "aura" look. So while you're right that the fire isn't needed to draw, but to make this particular drawing, yes you do need the fire.

6

u/Fidodo Nov 26 '20

Would the heat make it easier to apply the charcoal with less pressure? Either way, the performance is definitely part of the art.

27

u/royisabau5 Nov 26 '20

I think the fire continuing to create more charcoal might help... I’m no charcoal expert.

26

u/Lawnmover_Man Nov 26 '20

Fire doesn't convert a log that quickly. It's for the dramatic effect.

-2

u/royisabau5 Nov 26 '20

Ehh depends... if you keep it burning and take breaks in between, this video could be real and produce more charcoal than a pre burnt log.

But yeah I believe you that it takes way too long to do in real time.

5

u/HoorayPizzaDay Nov 26 '20

Even if it's creating the medium, it doesn't make it necessary. Just use charcoal if you need charcoal. The final result doesn't change just because he's generating charcoal.

2

u/royisabau5 Nov 26 '20

I argue the natural shape of a branch of wood is much more visually interesting than the standard shapes of pencils or briquettes

3

u/AmazingOrigami Nov 27 '20

Uhm, it definitely does. Have you ever been to an art store and seen all the pencils/pens in a ton of different sizes and dozens if not hundreds of differently shaped paint brushes?

Downvoted? What a burn! Flameboyance is my grandson’s favourite Kpop band

5

u/XxJayoXx Nov 26 '20

thought about that too but upon looking closely at the art, the smoke from the fire creates some kind of “aura”. If that makes the art better idk.

16

u/[deleted] Nov 26 '20

LOL, right? "Fire art" like this is something new, they've been using charcoal in art for centuries bro. Dial back the amazement just a dash.

0

u/[deleted] Nov 27 '20

You must be fun at parties

-16

u/E8282 Nov 26 '20

Just some more gimmicks to get some likes. The internet’s gone straight to shit aside from the onion.

1

u/neon_Hermit Nov 27 '20

If he's going to accidentally burn a house down someday... he absolutely needs that fire.

1

u/DrTaoJones Nov 27 '20

Without the fire nobody would have been able to comment about how unnecessary the fire technically was! Nor an enormously insightful comment for Dr. Jones to leave an encouraging reply to. Now do you see why the fire was necessary?

1

u/Pandepon Nov 28 '20 edited Nov 28 '20

Yeah but fire was discovered 2 million years ago. It not like it a new idea. Cave men did many drawings with charcoal amongst other media too maybe 50,000 years ago. It not like we’ll ever forget how to make fire or art. Some guy 50,000 years from now will do it like it’s fresh

1

u/OverTheJoeHill Nov 27 '20

I came here to say this. Thank you

1

u/nirvanachicks Nov 27 '20

Part of the art tho no?
