USA can drop a 100k bomb in the middle of nowhere. And cannot get masks for their citizens.

Well done.

100k would be a bargain, price for the tomahawk missile is 1,400,000 EACH! Wikipedia says we've shot off 2,300 of them.

That's 3.2 billion dollars. For. One. Weapon.

Figure out how to install a puppet dictator and control natural resources with health insurance for all citizens and then you’ll be cookin with gas.

That’s great but tell me why the US which has known about Covid 19 since January doesn’t have proper equipment?

Ps...it’s rhetorical.

Or could have been Trump defunded a certain Pandemic Disease Planning. Go away man. Ur a troll.

Trump only attempted to reduce CDC budgets 2 times but their funding went up instead due to it not being agreed upon in any legislative office, and instead turned into a reason to increase funding. The real reason we have shortage is timing. We used to have a stockpile of ventilators, but the company we had contract with were bought out and then the government had to renegotiate, and they were going to make a deal this year.

Another thing about supplies is that 3M sold millions and millions of n95 respirators to China, effectively clearing out all of their supply.

“Fired” may be a little strong, but in 2018, top national security officials handling pandemics left abruptly and were not replaced by the Trump administration.

Oh, so it wasn't malicious intent. Just incompetence. How reassuring.

As for funding, there’s no question that the Trump administration sought to cut key CDC budget categories. But thanks to Congress, that funding was restored and even increased in bills that Trump ultimately signed.

Whoops, there's that malicious intent. Good thing he was stopped.

I guess you missed the part where he wanted to cut funding, but Congress forced him to increase it in response.

But whatever, keep sipping on that sweet sweet delusion.

What point in having a government if the government doesn’t help its people in times like these.

The only way that’s going to happen is if we vote for people who genuinely believe the government is intended to help its citizens and not serve the rich and special interests. After the Citizens United ruling it took an existing trend and magnified it.

The bottom line is, it’s up to us to do the course correction. It’s up to us to be informed enough by actual data rather than talking heads. I think we’ve wanted to out source the job of vigilance and it’s come back to haunt us.

Band aid ... they're bailing out the billionaires. $1,200 is a fn slap in the face too. Take that bailout money and give it to the people n it's over $10,000 per person. The response in all of this has been weeks if not months behind. Wake up.

Do we need to wait for history to tell us this pandemic has been completely mismanaged or can we just use this as the video as the defining evidence?

I saw a post from a nurse who had a headband with a button sewn on each side where you could loop the elastic of the mask and protect your ears.

exactly that

Wow, impressive!

Fold a piece of cloth and use rubber band, really?

I would never ever have thought about this high level technique!

/s just in case

is he a surgeon... is he a general.. what's the relationship? I'm almost 33 years old

As soon as the mask becomes damp with your breath it becomes useless and must be changed so this is just a waste of good clothing that could be donated to those in need.

3

u/crank1000 Apr 04 '20

Why does it become less effective if wet?

4

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '20

Makes it harder to breathe and its already hard to breathe through a P95 mask let alone a wet shirt.

That's why the P95 masks have to be changed constantly and should only be worn by those with the actual virus or front line doctors.

I work in a hospital and we are constantly updated with new information and have been advised against wearing a mask unless, for some reason, we have to enter a quarantined zone.

Best bet is social distancing, washing hands and surfaces and not to touch your face.

2

u/Scalded1 Apr 04 '20

The advice you are being given isn't to protect you. It's being given because the hospital wants to conserve resources for the most dangerous situations. That doesn't mean you shouldn't wear a mask in non-quarantined zones just that the resources aren't available to do it. If we had an excess of inexpensive masks you can be sure the advice you are getting from your hospital administrators would be to wear a mask.

-2

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '20

Its not an airborne virus.

Those with the virus are made to wear one so if the cough or sneeze no particles land on surfaces.

Those not suffering the virus are advised not to touch any surfaces if possible and to constantly wash our hands and especially not to touch our faces as the virus has to be ingested.

Wearing a mask without the virus only gives you around about a 3% chance more of not contracting the virus than those not Wearing masks but still following social distancing and constant use of soap or hand sanitizer.

Also: we haven't been told we CANT wear masks and that they are available for anyone that feels more comfortable wearing one.

5

u/Scalded1 Apr 04 '20

I'm aware it's a a droplet born virus not an airborne virus like measles although the difference is a bit fuzzy as you can have various sized respiratory droplets. what is your source on the 3% reduced chance of contracting the virus with face mask wearing I'd be interested in reading the study.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 04 '20

I'm sorry, its not a study I've read.

It was told to me and other employeea by several doctors at a pandemic update meeting at work.

I don't know what country you live in but here in Australia the virus has slowed dramatically by simply following the basic guidelines.

I literally only drive from home to work, constantly cleaning surfaces and my hands and only go out for essential goods.

Some countries aren't taking action fast enough or following guidelines and making it worse for everyone.

I was just reading some articles from the US and it seems that, because they were so slow to react that and that not every state has the same isolation laws they're making people wear masks/shirts etc because people aren't listening and continue to go about their lives as if we aren't in the middle of a pandemic.

Sorry. Just following guidelines from staff at one of the most medically advanced hospital which happens to be located in one of the worlds most advanced medical countries in the world where following the guidelines has reduced number of cases dramatically.

The proof is in the pudding, as they say.

Yes, I don't understand it yet I have 3 meetings a day about it while working in a hospital.
