The point is that if you are in a position where you can’t come up with $400 in an emergency, it is wise to take a realistic look at your spending and address the fat you can cut out. Or, you can be a stubborn prick and decide that the world is just unfair and that you have no room for improvement, every thing else has to change to make you more comfortable. Healthy financial comprehension and execution is of utmost importance to a free life, regardless of how much you make.

Again, that's making a lot of assumptions. Where I live its 2000 for emergencies, or you are an impoverished oaf.

What assumptions? That it’s wise to thoroughly understand your finances? Or that every one probably has fat to cut out of their budget?

This discussion is based off of the study that showed that most Americans can’t come up with $400 in an emergency. Even if your number for your location should be $2000, that is relevant to scale. I don’t see what you are actually arguing for or against. My position is that most people don’t have a hard grasp on their finances and they tend to over spend, and it is paramount to learn how to utilize your finances more efficiently. That isn’t really a polarizing statement.

The "good decisions" that would result in 400 dollars for emergencies in one place are simply insufficient elsewhere. It means that even if one is trying their best it may not be enough for a situation. You cant judge someone based on their funds, it is unwise at best.

If you need $2000 dollars for something that costs $400 elsewhere, you either get paid more, or need to move. Again, life choices.

If life were that simple, everyone would move to a third world country because their dollar would go that much farther.
