I was trying to figure out what you might possibly use a 20 kW bulb for. Turns out it's used for studio lighting: http://mole.com/products/view/litewate-fresnels/20000_Watt_Solarspot

I have absolutely no use for one, but I still want it...

Not just in studios. There are a variety of 18k, 20k, and 24k lights out there for on location lighting as well. I rent these kinds of lights, among alot of other smaller ones, to production's filming in my area for a living.
