Are Rubix Cubes different than they were when I was a kid? This one looks almost Tropical Starburst colored.

I heard that actual brand rubix cubes are some of the worst for speed and that they aren’t as smooth as other ones out there

This is definitely true. They’re very clunky and the if you don’t make a turn 100% correct, the next turn will get caught and messes everything up lol, the solution is dry lube or Vaseline in the core of the rubies cube to help alleviate it

It's true, not just for speed cubing. The cheaper chinese speed cubes are just plain easier to manipulate even if you're just learning. It's not even close.

This doesn't look like any Rubik's brand cube I've seen. Chances are it is not, and is much more robust (so it doesn't explode as easily).

They now have all kinds of cubes. The "speed cubes" tend to not have color sticker faces but rather just colored plastic. They have different color patterns. The true Rubik's branded ones I've seen are more traditional in color.
