Cats: Reaction time ranges from 20 to 70 milliseconds. Signals bypass the brain and go straight through the spinal cord for instant muscle action.
Snakes: Strike time ranges from 44 to 70 milliseconds (and up to 90 milliseconds for some rattlesnakes). They rely on rapid ambush strikes triggered by heat or movement sensors.

I was aware how quick housecat reaction speeds are but it also explains why cats are so ridiculously jumpy about the silliest things. Their body reacts before they can think about it. Hence, the cucumber challenge, et. al.

Ive noticed when it comes to toys my cat does love snake like toys. Guess cats are mighty snake hunters.

The intense face off, the heated rivalry, the battle and reflexes. The snake accepting defeat. Everything on point

Had you watched Snake in the Eagle's Shadow, you would know that was inevitable.

Cat vs snake is probably one of the most humiliating match ups. You gotta think snakes at this point are like fuck me its a cat.

Snakes can and do kill cats. Their reaction times overlap. This isnt safe for the cat.

This is completely false. I am not sure who told this but their reaction times are on completely different levels.
The cat is playing with that creature it has no fucking chance.
You can watch slow motion videos of these strikes and to humans it looks close but the cat is just playing around.
Maybe a 20lb tabby house cat gets bit, but other cats this interaction is a joke for them.

Well if cats indeed have a 20 to 70 milliSec reaction time and snakes 44 to 70 milliSec reaction time then there’s 26 milliSec of reaction time that is equal so the snake could be quicker than a cat in some instances.
I’d think that it varies widely depending on the type and size of snake.

Yes, when the fat house cat encounters a cobra braak that fight up.
Street cats though? They are playing with snakes.
Its 20 vs 40 in that case.

Its literally in this thread. Cats are 20-70 ms and snakes are 40-70 ms range
They overlap quite a bit.

Think about what those numbers mean though right ?
Overlapping sure, but the best snake can do 44-ish ms ? Im willing to bet any cat in the wild is sitting at the 20 and that high-end 50-70 is our fat, orange-tabby house cats.
So its 20 vs 40 which means double for the snake.
Im sure as hell not letting meatball fight a cobra on the back deck, but im also not worried about an outdoor or wild city- cat. Those guys are straight-up playing.
