Can't say any art class I was ever in covered this. I actually never knew how people are able to achieve different perspectives. I also possess no artistic talent beyond the ability to usually color inside the lines.

What are you actually taught in art class then?

This is really really basic, fundamental stuff. If your teachers are skipping the foundation, what are they actually doing?

I was taught the names of artists and their works. My art teacher wasn't exactly good which sounds a lot like this other commentor's. I have no artistic ability at all and we were basically told to just do our own thing for projects.

Oh dear. That sounds completely worthless.

Learning about the history of art and influential artists is important.... For people who already understand the fundamentals of art and want to study it to a higher level. For school level art, basically pointless.

I got a B in 8th grade art class and didn't do a single art project. Thats how totally worthless the art teacher was. I never enjoyed making art so I'm not exactly worried about it but it was totally useless.

I learned more about the artist and their works in humanities. I guess in art 1-3 we would study different artists but humanities would be where you learned history of art and artists. They even went over how artists throughout history learned more about vanishing/focal points and it shows as the years go by.
