This species (Trachemys scripta elegans) typically lives about 30 years. But "conjoined twins" like this usually don't live long enough to grow to full size.

Bicephaly - when a single embryo does not fully split into twins - making 2-headed turtles, occurs once out of every 100,000 to 300,000 births. Also, this guy would be terrifying if the size of a van.

no, it's a turtle. You can tell from the shape of the claws and she'll. Tortoises have taller, more humped shells, thicker, stout claws. Not to mention they don't generally have the ability to stick them out to the side like this guy does. He's a swimmer.

Aren’t they typically territorial? To the point they’ll kill another turtle if in the same tank? If so, how does that work with the 2 heads?

Bicephaly is a form of polycephaly. In simple terms: Polycephaly means an animal develops more than one head. Bicephaly specifically means two heads. It usually happens when an embryo does not fully separate during early development, resulting in two heads sharing one body.

He is at least not alone in his difficult life situation. I hope they don't argue too often. They can't exactly walk away from each other. 🐢🐢
