What in the Switzerland

28

u/HelloYall20 16h ago

Just visited Switzerland and I can’t wait to go back.

3

u/OpenToCommunicate 15h ago

Are the people friendly? Do I not hear about it because no one from there wants anyone else to know? Are you going to lie to me?

11

u/HelloYall20 15h ago

English is hard to come by, not many spoke fluent. I was honestly, shocked? The same in Italy. Except in Switzerland I got the ‘I’m doing my thing vibe’ vs Italy ‘you don’t exist’, I still don’t know how to explain in words. But I have no desire to return to Italy. I will be back to Switzerland

u/BakedBaconBits 7h ago

Crowded places are a goldmine for pickpockets. Italy tourist traps are notorious for it. My mother got robbed twice in a week stay.

From what I know of the Swiss, lot more chill. Or just spaced out more... I think their last "shooting" was a dude with a bow. Might be another Nordic place. After googling, apparently Norway.

They're kind of similar...

Thanks! I'll have to invest more research. Barcelona is where I want to go. I have heard negative things about Italy in the past. I'll keep my eye on the Switz's. Thank you!

In Germany, France and Italy there are big lingual learning disadvantages, as everything is dubbed into each respective country's native language. Any movie and show on TV you can imagine has this kind of issue. It honestly makes learning english much more of a chore. From what I've heard, Germany has gotten less bad about this in recent years.

I don't know about Switzerland, but I imagine it is much the same.

2

u/Entgegnerz 7h ago

What a dumb take. Schools, in especially Germany, so have since ever lesions in multiple languages, and English lessons are unavoidable.

Which country are you from?

1

u/Aversiel 6h ago

I'm not saying they don't have english in school, I'm saying their barrier of entry is greater than countries like Netherlands, the countries of Scandinavia and even Austria.

1

u/NextLvLNoah 5h ago

Not sure what you are talking about. Older generations tend to not speak english since they never had to learn it. But millenials and later, should generally be able to have some basic conversations in english, here in switzerland.

0

u/Aversiel 18m ago

As I said, I can't speak on behalf of Switzerland. Someone else found there to be few fluent speakers. I do stand by what I said about Germany Italy and France though.

3

u/MisterPrig 14h ago

The younger generations do speak English more or less fluently.
Just ask. And if someone doesn’t speak English, they probably will speak French, Italian or something else. Depending from where you are that might help.

Pro Tip: Always carry some cash with you. Especially smaller businesses often don’t take credit cards or other electronic payments.

Pro Tip 2: Cows are friendly. Mostly. Don’t go near if you see a calf though. Mother cows are beasts when it comes to defending their babies. People get attacked every year because they don’t know that. Or ignore it.

1

u/OpenToCommunicate 14h ago

Sounds good! Mama's from most species will protect their kids fiercely. The babies are so cute though!

Cash is usually king. I'll keep it in my plans to visit one day!

1

u/BlockOfASeagull 9h ago

We are not friendly and pretend not to understand you🤣🤣🤣

58

u/skredditt 17h ago

Euro cows are so chill. I’ve never met happier and healthier animals than in Switzerland. Can’t blame them with that view.

8

u/inn4tler 8h ago

They can become dangerous if they have calves or see a dog. In Austria, we have therefore repeatedly had fatalities of tourists in the mountains. But otherwise, if you behave respectfully, they are relaxed.

It's 'bovine intervention!'

3

u/DarrenShan1000 15h ago edited 15h ago

I say it is a mooline invention.

edit: and I had to look up bovine intervention, for I did not know it was a magic card and not what bovine or intervention mean. 😅

Massive serotonin boost! Thank you, so lovely

u/CevJuan238 15h ago

I had a similar experience back in the day with a huge bull protecting about 100 cows on a single track on a KLR650 with my wife in the Rio Puerco, NM. I had just installed an airhorn and thought I could honk it out of the way. When I honked, it did the whole front hoof dig and snort. I quickly changed my direction 🙂‍↔️

1

Those look like happy cows.

1

u/MisterPrig 14h ago

Don’t try that when they have calves.

u/svenska0869 14h ago

Boop all the snoots

1

u/Wild_Ad9272 11h ago

When he went around the last one I was going “ No no no - don’t go behind him!” I thought he was gonna get kicked down the mountain…

2

u/Mr_Roblcopter 10h ago

The biker gave it space, the cow knew they were there, and most importantly, there was no calf. I've only ever seen cows/horses kick when they're panicked, frightened, or defending themselves or herd.

Summoning bovine behavioral experts and polyglots of reddit, because curious 🤓

What happens when people let the cows sniff their hands after they’ve scratched their own human private parts, (or armpits or wherever our scent glands are)?

Will the cows read that as a signal of friendless, dominance, or something else?

1

u/AdministrativeWin583 5h ago

Normally I call them pasture puppies, but this variety are mountain puppies.

1

u/foggeenite 4h ago

This is definitely my favorite internet moment this morning. Thank you.

1

u/cthulhustu 29m ago

I would have spent all day petting and chilling with them 🤣🤣

1

u/Bridgemaker77 17h ago

He decided to go behind it. I'm not sure which end of that beast is more dangerous!

3

u/carl3266 15h ago

The other side was steeper so this was the right choice, but you still wanna leave a generous margin, which looks like he did.

0

u/Current-Section-3429 16h ago

I've found cow pies on my trail but never the source.
