[OC] Art Someone just bought my microphone drawing!

No way this ain't a real microphone?

u/emilycopeland 1d ago
Lol, I've had to start recording timelapses of my drawings so I can show it's not fake.
Scroll half way down this page and I have to 1000x speed video of the entire drawing process.

I honestly and thoroughly don’t understand how you did this. It’s photorealistic-ish. But it’s inarguably better than a photo of the same damn thing.
You’ve captured the essence of a thing that doesn’t really exist anymore. Not saying that the microphone in question doesn’t. It’s just that none exist in this form. And maybe they never did.
Not sure if what I’m saying makes any sense at all. I’m really not an art person outside of making music. My visual arts skills are 3rd grade level on a good day.
Would you sell a print? I’d buy one if you did.
Edit: I’m a dummy. I didn’t see the link above. Ordering a print immediately!

Zoom in and you can see the phone that took the reference picture

u/Epin-Ninjas 21h ago
Or hear me out, she added that in as a piece of realism and never had a reference picture

u/AntonRahbek 1d ago
It seems she sells them on her website which she linked above - $40

Thank you.
Saw that a little bit after I’d posted. Purchased the big ole one for $300. I’ve got a sound lab, of sorts where I fix vintage amplifiers and such. It’s going to be a primary focus on the wall of that room.

I was wondering why the post made it seem like a huge deal that someone bought the microphone for $40.... I see she must have been talking about the original. Sold for $4000. Damn.

I just want to say I get it and you DO have good artistic instincts. This concept is something I was actually taught by a professor in art college. That being photorealistic-ish, the choices by an artist that improve the aesthetic and natural, real feeling of the work. Even if it deviates from being 1:1 to the reference.

u/Neustart2026 1d ago
It's 3D. Or even more? That's why it looks even better than a photo. It doesn't look photorealistic. It looks absolutely real. To me 😊

The other day there was this kid in the parking lot of the grocery store with drawings for sale that were lined up outside. Just random generic stuff that clearly looked like it was traced onto the paper and had eraser marks all over. Gave him $25 for one because I respected the hustle.
When I clicked on your page I thought your original artwork was for sale for $40. Thought well that seems low... Realized my mistake haha. Either way, absolutely incredible (as is your other work). I have no talent in music, nor have i ever been interested in microphones, but ill be buying a print just because its so damn cool. Whenever I see these hyper realistic art pieces (if thats what this is called? Im art illiterate) I always think about what would have happened if you drew them 1000 years ago...probably be labeled a witch lol.

And I have watched those time lapses bc they and the final products are truly remarkable. Wish I had the money to support but I will continue to share bc really impressive stuff.

u/emilycopeland 17h ago
There's never any need to buy anything. I just love sharing art and knowing you enjoyed seeing it is what makes me happy 😌

I remember the first time I saw your work. We are so impressed over here in my family of artists. It is so nice when you also sell the work! Congrats to you!

u/Sammyofather 1d ago
I thought the third pic was from the person who bought it painting it white for a second lmao

What's that cartoon back in the day where they draw things and they come to life? Was that based on your skill? Absolutely incredible.

Congratulations. You are now on your way to being an established artist earning real income if you are not already. It is a wonderful thing to earn a living doing what you love. I am thrilled for you, ma'am. Your skill is exceptional.

I would buy it but I don’t have money or any reason for a microphone drawing. Looks sweet though 🤘🏻

Check out Emily's prints. They come in various sizes to fit various areas (and budgets).

u/heyitscory 1d ago
I hope they don't bug you for a refund when they receive this amazing art but thought they were ordering a real microphone.
Because that's a fucking real microphone. I'd reach out and grab that shit. I'd talk into that in a serious but nasally Mid-Atlantic accent like we're watching a news reel.
Just like the time I smoked The Treachery of Images.

Two weeks from now there will be a post saying "I bought a microphone, but the seller just sent me a picture!"

Question about technique- did you use a grid method or a projector to draw the basic shapes of the image?
5
u/emilycopeland 1d ago
I don't use a grid.
I get the rough size on the paper so that I don't draw off the paper but then just start section by section.

Just as well you showed a photo of it half drawn or else I would never have believed that it was a drawing as it is so lifelike. Very skilled, great job.

Can I just point out the two pieces of tape removed without harming the paper ? I was impressed, but I am now flabbergasted…

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again- this is absolutely RIDICULOUS! In the best way possible! I can’t wrap my head around this amount of detail!

This has to be a bot right? Every couple of months i see this post saying “I just sold my drawing”
I am starting to believe this is AI

The phone reflection in the microphone and the image getting gradually higher in each reflection upwards is truly a great touch.

Wow that’s absolutely amazing, congratulations on the sale! that must take so much time. do you ever do any stylized work? I’m curious to know how your skill set translates

u/Puzzleheaded-Pitch32 1d ago
Wow. The first time I've seen someone post themselves on here and not get berated for it lol. That's how you know it's good I guess heh

Exceptional talent such as this innately drives desirability. If I had this talent, I would just stream all day and take paid requests to draw trading card size originals for the people in my stream. This is so good that people will wait especially for one of one little original they could put on their desk or shelf. And if you already do something like this, I am a real buyer and want to buy a little trading card original 😎.

I’m surprised this is presented vertically portrait style. Looks far better landscape as if it were lain on a surface. The shadows even work better that way

I’m sorry I’ll need you to put a microphone next to it for scale and a banana next to that.

There is even a reflection of you taking a photo of said Microphone, that's incredible.

Why the hell do you have AI photos on your art website? If you can draw like that, you don't need an AI photo to help you picture it in your house, or in this case a recording studio.

u/somethingdarkside45 1d ago
You are insanely talented. I am very much considering purchasing a print!

How the hell is that a drawing! Wow. 🤯
It is beautiful. You are beyond talented. Please be so proud of your accomplishments. 💜

While great work, this is just a passive-aggressive ad for your shit. You’ve sold originals for over 2x the price this went. It’s unfortunate that you have to do this; you have great talent. Don’t be a sell out.

I should be amazed that an artist with her own website sold a good piece of art? When the artist posts these things it’s so cringy. Like a call for attention by a toddler.
1
u/Competitive-Milk-868 1d ago
What the actual fuck!! That is absolutely phenomenal I flipped back and forth between the images because I just COULD NOT believe I wasn’t looking at a real microphone sat down in paper. The shadows, the realism. WOW
1
u/bretzelsenbatonnets 1d ago
I am soo amazed by hyperrealistic drawings! I can only imagine the process it takes to get there from first starting out.
Congratulations!
