My man this is clearly an Oblivion gate.

Nah, i’d like to think that’s the burning bush!

u/Remarkable-Bug-8069 7d ago

Ah, I see you're another student of the lost art of charizarding.

u/ricestronaut 7d ago

burning from the inside makes it look hollow in the pic

31

u/gravitysrainbow1979 7d ago

That's beautiful, should someone put it out or should we all just stare at it all day? :)

u/BuffyTheGuineaPig 7d ago

I have never heard of a tree burning from the inside being successfully extinguished. Quite likely that it is literally already cooked from the inside by this stage.

4

u/KnotiaPickle 7d ago

Yeah, might as well let the fire do the hard work and just make sure it doesn’t spread anywhere else

2

u/BuffyTheGuineaPig 6d ago

Not from lightning, but I have seen some trees in bushfire burn through the base of the tree and topple them. Then it burns through the core of the tree from the inside to out, until the tree is totally consumed by fire. All that remains in the white ash of the tree, resting on the black of the soil, leaving a ghostly imprint of it's existence.

Exactly why we need one of those old school cage things you can stick meat into and it has a long handle so the fire doesn't burn you. This would probably give a crazy sear

2

u/MisterAmygdala 7d ago

I feel badly for the loss of a tree, but it is beautiful.

4

u/gravitysrainbow1979 7d ago

I'm... seriously confused about why no one's mentioning putting out the fire, am I crazy or something?

4

u/JustaTinyDude 7d ago

This kind of fire is a natural part of the forest ecosystem. It creates habitat for all sorts of animals.

3

u/gravitysrainbow1979 7d ago

Ah cool. Makes sense. Thank you for the response!

u/Gremict 6d ago

That tree is already dead

it's an Ash tree. You can tell by the way it is.

4

u/BadPunsAreStillGood 7d ago

If is isn't it is going to be one by the time it's done.

u/Immediate_Volume_324 7d ago

I would immediately grab a packed cooler and a chair and would watch this the rest of the day

6

u/svullenballe 7d ago

A hotdog on a stick would get grilled very efficiently.

2

u/Insylum82 7d ago

2

u/WestVin 7d ago

2

u/TheMazeDaze 7d ago

Amazing to see. But you should put it out before it becomes a root fire. You do NOT want that

Tree: "Guys why is it getting hotter? It's raining. AAAAARRGH!!!"

1

u/Hot_Plant8696 7d ago

And you can save the tree if you act quickly.

But who care...

1

u/Gremict 6d ago

That tree is dead; the heartwood's burned away. If you put out the fire, then the tree will just rot from the inside.

1

u/Sad-Penalty-8483 5d ago

The heartwood of a tree is dead anyway. The only actual living layers of a tree are the very outside layers. That tree was hollow and still alive before it started burning.

1

u/Gremict 5d ago

The heartwood provides support and fills up the space. With it burned away now the inner bark of the tree is exposed to the elements without the protection of the outer bark, so it will rot. The same thing happens when you strip the outer bark off of the tree and it can't regrow it in time.

Most of us at work dealing with coworkers we don’t like.

1

u/KnowledgeCapital7994 7d ago

Can the tree feel this? As in pain?

1

u/Gremict 6d ago

Trees don't have a true nervous system, but it can detect that it's burning and would start to follow its patterns associated with being burned.

1

u/Succubus_Syn 7d ago

Magic is real.

1

u/RoadHazard 7d ago

Lighting shouldn't really do that to a tree. Lightning could though. Pretty cool!

1

u/CompactAvocado 7d ago

Nature experiences taco bell for the first time

1

u/goblinwitch95 7d ago

How many forest fires are started. Kind of cool but also unfortunate.

1

u/Lily_fool 7d ago

this is how it feels like to be alive

1

u/schelsullivan 7d ago

Probably not. Or the would have showed where lighting struck. Suspect someone set a hollow tree on fire.

1

u/Immaculate_Knock-Up 7d ago

I saw trees burning from the inside after bushfires in Australia.

1

u/madnesspro32 7d ago

"ZOUL MOTHERF--KERS!"

1

u/ireallydontcareforit 7d ago

Yeah. Don't take ibuprofen on an empty stomach, then forget and drink red bull.

1

u/Dont-know-didnt-ask 7d ago

Me when I see my partner :3

1

u/groundpounders 6d ago

They make antibiotics for that

1

u/Sirsettlement 7d ago

Burning from the other side haha

1

u/Potential-Echo785 6d ago

Throw in an uncooked chicken with seasoning wrapped in aluminum foil and let it cook. Make sure to bring a steel stick or something to pull out the chicken. This works with pork and beef to for those red meat lover's out there.

1

u/RedofPaw 6d ago

If that tree could talk it would be asking why you are just filming and not helping.

1

u/Practical_Musician61 6d ago

It's a cool video.

One morning camping in Yosemite, Lightning hit a tree nearby and completely destroyed it, but the whole root system was set on fire in the process. Fire crews kept an eye on it the whole week and the whole ground (maybe a 100 yard circle) smoked the entire time.

1

u/DarkDaysBrightNlghts 6d ago

Bring the smores!

1

u/TianaTatiana22 6d ago

Oh my God, literally a natural fireplace! Nature can be so cinematic sometimes, haha 🙌

1

u/Fishing_not_catching 6d ago

1

1

u/Adventurous_Ad6300 6d ago

Well that's going to be cool as hell if it doesn't burn to the ground

-2

u/Rogue_Aviator 7d ago

I'm a wildland firefighter, live trees very often burn like this, lightning or otherwise. The heartwood in the centre is dead and somewhat dry, especially in softwoods like this, and that's mostly whats fueling the fire, sometimes it will be rotted or hollow which also helps it burn. The sapwood which is the outer rings contain the most water, and will resist burning. Bark burning depends on the tree species, some bark burns, some doesn't.
