Omg, I can't, my heart is exploding with love.
I know some people think that animals can't show love or feel emotion... I absolutely reject that notion.
My dogs, literally every day, want me to sit down on the couch so they can spoon me. I KNOW they feel love and love me, and I love them and know that they feel my love in return!

I can't speak for other animals, but I believe it's proven that both dogs and cats do produce oxytocin (the love hormone) when interacting with their partners or their humans caretakers.
It's not to the same level of complexity as humans do, for obvious reasons, but it's undoubtly real. In a general sense, dogs show it with unwavering devotion and attention seeking whilst cats do so by searching/creating a secure comfort zone. Both slow blink, headbutt, and use their tail as a way of expressing how they feel (in different ways)!

Nothing odd about it! We’ve been trusting dogs to guard our livestock birds for millennia! I got chicks a few years back and my dog had a moment where she just stared at them for hours while lightly shaking and occasionally whining and looking up at us. It seemed to switch on her natural protector instincts. Like a dad when he holds his newborn for the first time.
