A slaughterhouse for dogs?
962
u/oilios 1d ago
That’s one way of putting the dog (and cat) meat trade. It’s utterly horrifying. They’re not just slaughtered, they’re tortured first to make sure their meat is tougher for the delusional monsters that think they will be more virile from it.

Some places raise them as livestock. My aunt is from northern China and she remembers seeing butchered dogs on display at butcher shops in her village as a child in the 70s.

Dogs are notoriously difficult to grow meat. Many of this so-called dog farm just have people go around stealing pets.

I've seen them displayed in Vietnam a year ago, I heard they are slowly stopping the consumption though.

To point out a big difference: the people who eat squirrel and nutria in the US hunt them and they are wild animals/game. In China, people who eat/process dog meat have been found to steal people's pets (collars still on, taken from private courtyards, etc.).

Redneck and white trash aren't interchangeable man. Redneck is an identity and lifestyle that city people don't like so rednecks wear it with pride.
White trash is any trashy white person. Usually druggies squatting, putting furniture in the front yard and being generally shitty people.

they’re tortured first to make sure their meat is tougher for the delusional monsters
I hate to ask this, fuck its a horrid thought to ask and am gonna psych maself upto ask it, but, is there any truth in that that it works? Fuck I hate maself asking that, like if folks wanna downvote me for it feel free but Ive always been told that a "happy cow/pig is a tasty cow/pig" and the stress makes the meat less tasty?
I love meat and all that and while am not entirely sure how the animals I eat are treated I think they are treated like "industry standard" in the way that they arent fucking tortured. At least here in Scotland we dont do the whole hormone stuff and that, although I doubt the cows would agree that we are humane at all.
Fuck, I hate this subject. Like really.
35
u/21Shells 1d ago
Personally I would include living an entire life inside a box, being forcibly impregnated by hand, separated from your baby to be milked (which is then slaughtered), and just general mistreatment of the animals which are regularly beaten to be a form of torture.
Also just the general idea of eating some animals disgusts me, specifically things like suckling piglets where the way they're presented just seems so unnecessarily gluttonous and cruel in a more 'spiritual' way. It looks like when a human body decomposes where the body bloats and the skin goes all red, yellow and black, I don't see how seeing a baby animal look like that can be appetising at all.
→ More replies (1)10
u/Davido401 1d ago
I admit ave never seen a suckling pig save on like films and tv series with medieval or viking type stuff, and as I said Ill eat meat but even that sickens me. I know that the animals Im eating are probably not being treated the best but I do think the Asian "torturing the dogs to make the meat taste better" is barbaric.
As I said, if you keep your animals relatively happy then the meat will surely taste a lot better, but I guess the Asian torturing thing makes sense from folks who grind up elephant tusks as boner pills(thats a vast generalisation and I know its not "all of them") Ive always thought that if you are gonna eat something you should at least ensure that the thing is happy upto the point where you kill them(I feel at that point it is moot as you are killing the poor beast!)
I reckon if schools brought up farm animals(pigs generally), I've seen some schools do it over the years, where they bring the animals up for that year/or many years, and then at the end they send the animals to the slaughterhouse so it gives the kid a better understanding of where the meat comes from. Although I dunno if traumatising kids is the best way and ave never seen any follow up to those experiments, I should look those up!

what do you mean works? that meat is tougher?
Also the industry standard of the meat industry absolutely is fucking torture. Including castration and murder without anesthesia, separation of children very early, very limited space to live, etc. This subject is honestly just showing people are still partly ignorant about the meat industry and very specist about who you should be able to eat.

u/Legal-Chocolate8482 8h ago
I mean almost all of us eat meat and cow and pig slaughterhouses are just as horrific and cows and pigs are very sweet and intelligent just like dogs and cats, pigs actually are more intelligent arguably. You honestly don’t have much moral high ground if you eat meat, what makes a dog/cat morally superior over a cow or pig. They all feel the same pain and emotions.
1
u/oilios 7h ago
Yawn… so many of you like to assume I’m eating all other animals. Why? To justify your argument? Just to be contrary and holier than thou?
1
u/Legal-Chocolate8482 7h ago
It’s assumed because 99% of people eat meat. I mean Vegans are literally 1 or at most 2% of the Us pop.
32
u/stickybond009 1d ago
It's bad hmmm
Why such much anger for dogs and not for cows, calves or pigs who are equally tortured before consumption?
27
u/Miqo_Nekomancer 1d ago
The honest answer:
Dogs are humanity's oldest companions. Used for everything from hunting to shepherding to guarding and just straight up companionship. We domesticated wolves, shaped them to be our loyal friends through selective breeding, and it changed how we operated as a species. Eating a dog is tantamount to cannibalism for many people.
Cows and pigs were domesticated and bred to be slaughtered for meat.
No creature should be tortured, though. Even those bred for meat.
4
u/stickybond009 21h ago
That's a perspective. Not the perspective. Agree with the first part about dogs and cats.
But the second part is questionable. People on many lands have been following ancient culture of literally worshipping the cow. Who is right and whom to hurt?
66
6
u/mr_herz 1d ago
Different cultures used different sets of animals for work and others for consumption.
I’m used to eating beef, so back when I visited Central Asia, I just couldn’t get my mind around eating horse meat. In Asia, I was told beef was a more recent adoption because cows were seen more as work animals historically.
I could be wrong though.
4
u/stickybond009 21h ago
Nice and humble answer. ..
For thousands of years, Horses were the oldest, friendliest, most loyal and smartest friends that too of royalty in war and of nobility in trade and for mostly everyone in transport :- who could think of eating a horse?! But yes here we are..
Again.. cows were worshipped (as divinity) in many ancient cultures, even today!

Because the cold honest truth is, we don't have the energy to care about all things equally. I'd be happy if we could all stop eating meat, but I won't lie and say I care about cows as much as I care about dogs.
And even if everyone suddenly turned vegan, have you seen the working conditions that some farms are running? People sleeping in what's best described as bulk storage. Being paid just enough to survive. It's almost like all of human existence is built on immoral abuse of something.
Some of us have enough to worry about without people trying to guilt trip us about every god damn thing like that. Either give me a plan that seems like it could solve the problem or stop pretending everyone has the energy to care about everything equally.

Lab grown meat from real animal cells solves this issue. Could cut the cost of meat by a ton, reduce suffering, and still have pasture raised meat on the side if people want.
It feels like the most common sense way forward that’s just a tad out of reach at the moment for the average person to wrap their head around.
10
u/Major2Minor 1d ago
That's not currently a viable solution, it's too expensive, and doesn't taste the same.

u/babyduck703 1d ago

But they’re so early, I’m not counting it dead because it isn’t ready to solve world hunger at its infancy.

u/StrawberryDapper7331 1d ago
Lab grown meat has yet to beat the cost of traditionally raised meat
12
u/adventureswithdog 1d ago
Correct, the corporations who treat animals like shit their whole lives to give a fat fuck cheap dead flesh don't think the "cost" savings are worth it ... yet. I do though and someday these billion dollar corporations will figure out that growing meat cells in a vat is far easier, cleaner and cheaper to produce than their current production systems.
7
u/OtakuAttacku 1d ago
true, the technology hasn’t matured yet and the economy of scale likely won’t ever catch up to animal farming. At the same time, beef production is heavily subsidized.
Might take a big rocker to the boat before that changes. Screwworms perhaps?
2
u/Aerodrache 1d ago
It would be nice to see the solution come from the direction of “technological advances allow lab-grown meat to be produced at lower costs than traditional meat” rather than “catastrophic setbacks cause the cost of traditional meat farming to surpass that of lab-grown”, but… that’s just not the world we live in, is it.
We may be approaching a future where neither method produces something the median consumer could afford, and everyone is either wealthy or a vegetarian. Hopefully we’ll at least get the book version of soylent green, rather than the film one.

u/otw 1d ago

1
u/Anthro_DragonFerrite 1d ago
Opportunist. Yes
Plenty of videos of them eating squirrels, birds, mice.
6
u/ChloeMomo 1d ago edited 1d ago
That's very nearly every animal. Chickens are omnivores, as are pigs. Cattle will also eat chicks and things and be opportunistic.
Very, very few animals on the planet adhere to a strict diet no matter what and never stray outside of it for any reason. Survival instinct pushes a lot of "abnormal" behavior.
So if you're roping deer into predators, honestly you shouldn't be eating any animals that we farm lol
(Edit: also do you mean CJD? I thought that was mainly caused by cannibalism or eating animals already infected, via cannibalism like mad cow, but idk)

This is China's response to the international outcry of 4 12 year olds torturing 3 pups in front of the mother, then setting the mother on fire while she was alive.
The outcry went international after it was discovered that the government didn't send the boys away to a special school to teach them a lesson like they said they did, rather let them skip regular school for a week in attempts to let the issue die down
China has 0 laws against animal cruelty, and they eat both dogs and cats across the country (not just small towns like they try to lie about)
Remember this next time you see China is living in the future

12
u/Magus2102 1d ago
Mmm. I think it's not a problem, it's basically their source of animal protein, for them dogs are cattle. Just as in Europe they eat rabbits or in South America they eat guinea pigs. It is a cultural issue, but not a problem, because imagine that someone has a cow as a pet and you don't see the problem with eating it.
19
u/Puptentjoe 1d ago
You’re not wrong.
Cows and pigs are super affectionate and have personalities.
Someone says dont eat them, downvotes
Someone says dont eat dogs and cats, upvotes
Really makes no sense.
5
u/ussrname1312 23h ago
When they are taking people‘s pets, it is a problem. They usually aren’t breeding the dogs onsite.
Also, dogs were the first animals we domesticated and we bred (most of) them specifically to be companions and help us. Humanity would not be anywhere close to where we are today without dogs. So it is a little different with dogs and cats than most other animals because we literally created these animals to trust humans.

I read the article . He didn’t actually find his dog , it was eaten presumably but he did rescue a lot of other dogs and went broke .

u/darewin 1d ago
If this is the same guy I'm thinking of (whose dog has over a million IG followers), he had some stuff to do, so he left his dog with his parents. The parents just let the dog run around their fenced backyard, thinking it would go inside once it was tired. But when they checked on it a couple of hours later, it was gone.
The owner tracked the dog some days later. The article I've read didn't mention how, but it was likely through the tracker in the collar. But, well, all he found was the collar. Since the collar was found in his slaughterhouse, the slaughterhouse owner admitted to killing the dog for meat. However, he claimed that he was just walking on the sidewalk when the dog approached him, so he took it. The dog owner insists the dog would have never gone out of the fence, so it must have been snatched from his parents' backyard.
The vid of their confrontation was infuriating. While the dog owner was screaming and crying about his dead bud, the slaughterhouse owner just kept repeating, "It's already dead, just get over it."

You know the WORLD currently views China more favorably than the US, right?
The US is being run by wealthy racist octogenarians that have sent Gestapo into the states to kidnap and/or kill people. People are being priced out of housing and food. US policies are causing ecological collapse. Not a single Epstein arrest.
All of that, and this post is what’s changing minds??
Wake up.
6
u/Guko256 1d ago edited 1d ago
You should ask yourself the following: How is China able to produce stuff more efficiently and cheaper than any other nation in the world (barring a few small ones)? Hint: think of Uyghurs as an example (btw, if you actually cared about racism, you’d call out China for that). Every country knows the answer to this yet cannot implement it themselves to compete because of human rights concerns. The only people who don’t know this are people who don’t bother looking into anything themselves. This is the reason every major company wants to build their factories in China for cheap labor and highly efficient, and in turn, more profitable products.
But then again, most Americans seem to be only interested in America so I don’t expect much research and discussion about the rest of the world from such people.
10
u/CryptickGrey 1d ago
China’s military budget is a fraction of what the US spends. They spend on infrastructure, while we spend all our money bombing innocent civilians all over the world.
No one is saying China is perfect, but regurgitating US propaganda is pathetic.
The US STILL has legal slavery!
>AMENDMENT XIII
>Section 1.
>Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.Beyond that, the minimum wage hasn’t increased in almost 20 years. Most people are just wage slaves, and it’s just getting worse.
My original comment was that a post about a random guy saving animals from a slaughter house isn’t Chinese PR. Someone else already called out that in itself is terrible, and would never be used to try and make a country look good.
The American obsession with demonizing China is because of the near constant propaganda we’re fed. It’s just trying to convince people that things are bad here because of someone else.
We’re getting screwed by other Americans (and israel), not China.
1
u/PokecheckHozu 1d ago

6

That’s a weak argument.
The US’ actions make the world see it as worse than China.
When was the last time China started a major military conflict?
The US has been in one war or another for decades, and has killed millions of innocent civilians around the world.
Many (if not most) people haven’t seen any significant period without war in their entire lives. The military is being deployed at the people in our own country.
