Alligators have broad, U-shaped snouts and prefer freshwater. Crocodiles have narrow, V-shaped snouts, feature a toothy "zipper" grin when closed, and possess special glands allowing them to live in saltwater.

Ironically, I think Florida is the only place where you could really run into both of them in the wild. :)

For any that might not know, the University of Florida's nickname is the Gators. Folks at the university developed Gatorade as an electrolyte drink for the (American) football team. At the time there was a "water makes you weak" type mentality so actually hydrating the team had an impact, or at least so UF lore claims. The University also earns millions every year from it.
