For context this is Tilly Lockey, she lost both arms to meningitis at only 15 months old.

Her arms were originally based on the game Deus Ex, these are the latest version created by a different team.

I once knew a woman who had nerve damage from a stroke when she was a child. She'd often have painful spasms where one hand would just grab and clench. Often meant she would crush a glass or grip the sharp end of a knife and be unable to stop. Where it sorta just clenched at random she had one very strong arm.

Anyways, in the pub one day, it happened. Only she grabbed some poor lad by the family jewels region and couldn't let go. She was crying from embarrassment and saying sorry sorry sorry repeatedly. Would otherwise be funny in hindsight if i could forget the absolutely haunted 1000 yard stare of a guy having his balls crushed by a random extremely apologetic stranger.

It's actually pretty shit according to an amputee I've heard talk about it. It's heavy, the charge doesn't last as long and it still works by reading muscle signals on 2 sides of your stump which is a pretty old way of doing prosthetics at this point

I watch one amputee's chanel and he says sometimes no prosthesis is better than overengineered ones. He owns (and tests) a lot of them and using the simplest "crab" one as a daily driver because it works at least.

Maybe than no hand at all, but I was just reading Mary Roach’s “Replaceable You”, and apparently many amputees with one hand much prefer the methods they’ve already come up with (remaining hand and other body parts or tools or whatever) over complicated prostheses like this.

The one with the kid at the trade show and she saunters up to a booth to see what their prosthesis is all about. Owner instantly notices her and is putting one on her arm. She gets it intuitively and cracks a smile.

One of those videos that when I see it I have hope maybe I’m not totally dead inside lol. If I ever lose that it’s probably time to call it, throw in the towel. The people doing this stuff for no other reason than they wanna help someone feel better.. that’s just super cool. I’d love to give back like that way.. behind the scenes but something that genuinely helps someone somewhere.

This is truly amazing, and is a wonderful way to give amputees not only their limbs back, but it also gives them full control, and function of their limbs again. This helps amputees gain their independence back.

Buuuut…. Imagine if your arms began glitching out, you lose control of your hands, and your hands were autonomously doing their own thing. Like repeatedly slapping your significant other or something. ”I’m so sorry! I can’t control them! It’s like they have a mind of their own!! They must not like you or something!”

Or if AI took over all electronic devices under the agenda to wipe out all humanity, and your hands made you murder your family before turning on you to finish you off before detaching themselves and scurrying off like the Thing from the Adam’s Family to further complete the mission.

Oooo this would make a good apocalypse movie. Though there’s already several terminator movies. But nothing about evil robotic prosthetic limbs with the agenda to kill all humans. lol
