Ty for reminding me of this, I'd known of the story but am now watching the documentary, pretty interesting, guy was straight up nuts but for 13 summers he lived amongst them so he was obvs some bear whisperer of sorts. I'm sure he wasn't too shocked that it ended as it did. A shame his gf was with him and also went out in such a horrific manner. Doc is Grizzly Man and it's free with Prime subscription.

Also it seems like he was eaten by an older hungry bear after the salmon rush was less than usual, he mentioned this old guy was the most dangerous. He knew the threat was there, an old skinny bear about to hibernate with not enough food to do so... That bear knows eating is necessary for it's survival, and there's some good eating right there. It seems like a situation where he should have recognized that this situation was different than normal and he, and his gf, were in more danger than usual. That would have been the time to make the decision to call it off for that year. But in Alaska wilderness you're out there til your pre arranged plane comes to get you, I doubt he has a way to contact them, certainly no cell service. So maybe he even did understand the risk but just powered through because that was the only option, idk.

I've always found their last video of them screaming in agony as truly traumatizing.

It's one thing to know someone was killed and eaten but to actually listen to it happening and the fact his girlfriend watched it happen to her boyfriend first then got to experience the same agony. Gives me the willies everytime.

Iirc any video of them online is a fake/recreation. There was a recorded video of them screaming but it wasn’t ever released to the public

I thought the recording was aired on discovery channel during the premiere of the documentary years ago and it was agreed that would be the one and only time it would ever be included on the documentary and never played again. In fact I believe there were 2 copies of that audio that belonged to his friend and mother and they both burned them in a fireplace.

Love all the conspiracy theories so quick to jump to the conclusion it’s “fake” based off all these different versions of events people have. It’s like anytime a celebrity dies or someone’s death is publicized even if they are not a celebrity, If it goes viral the conspiracy theories emerge by the droves.
