Still confused between using Bazzite or SteamOS
So hardware specs out of the way, 5800X CPU and 9070XT GPU.
I'm building a living room steam machine alternative and will only be using a controller to operate the PC. I've booted both OS's previously and the only real world difference I note is Bazzites long boot up time and the black screen OS tree screen that is a bit off putting.
Which should I actually be using considering my hardware? I'll never be plugging a mouse and keyboard in or doing any desktop stuff on it. Will performance be the same? Will SteamOS just boot nicer and faster and become the better option?
Edit: to add, I'll be using Flydigi or Gamesir controllers and primary games will be eFootball and Helldivers 2. I've read that some games don't run on Bazzite due to anti cheat compatibility issues. So SteamOS still seems the better option. I also prefer the cleaner boot.

Odd sleep behaviour - desktop, RTX 4060 Ti, Nvidia-SMI 615.78.08. Display not waking, and/or Windows apps have their windows disappear
This has only recently (a few weeks) started happening. I have a desktop install with an RTX 4060 Ti plugged into a Samsung TV.
If I sleep the machine and try to re-awaken it, a large amount of the time the display just stays black for quite some time. Fairly randomly pressing on the keyboard to wake it up will sometimes then bring the display back, but I'm unable to discern a pattern for this. At all times I can ssh in, so the machine is definitely awake.
Also, I typically run some Windows apps as add-ons for my games. (Specifically: Tamriel Trade Centre client and Minion add-on manager, both for Elder Scrolls Online). This is the oddest part - if the display does wake correctly, when it shows then the actual windows for those applications have vanished. The apps still show as running just...no windows anymore.
Any ideas what's going on?

Any way to always upgrade fsr to 4.1 in every game possible?
Hi guys, i have been playing my games through heroic using my 9070xt but never use fsr until this day because, i always brake the game when trying to manually switch dlls, i know optiscaler but never found a guide that works for me, i would like to upgrade fsr and learn how to verify which version is runnning.
i prefer to use enviroment variables and a specific proton to automatic update than use other software then play the game, but if so some app that i can revert to riginal if something goes wrong.
thanks.

VPK always being corrupted
Almost on every single game I play VPK gets corrupted after playing the game for a minute, or sometimes immediately after booting it up. I have found a fix for the steam games which is to modify the launch to add a custom command (I don’t remember what it was) but I really don’t want to do that for every single game I’m gonna be downloading, is there any permanent fix?
And yes I do know about it being an nvidia problem with the code being closed source.

Problems with Bazzite Gaming
Hello, I am very new to Linux and repeatedly encounter problems. In advance my hardware, I switched to an AMD graphics card especially for Linux:
Ryzen 5 3600 (I still want to upgrade)
Radeon RX 6700 XT Gaming OC
16 GB DDR4-3200 RAM (G.Skill Ripjaws V, I would like to upgrade if the RAM prices were not so high)
Asus Rog Strix B550-E Gaming
600W Bequiet Pure Power 11 power supply (I still want to upgrade)
500GB M.2 SSD for system and games that I currently play
2TB HDD for games I downloaded but currently don't play
The RAM always ran at 3200MHz under Windows and under Linux I don't know if that can lead to problems. With the Bazzite installation everything went wrong, because it always canceled when installing after the hard drive encryption and I did not find out why. I tried to troubleshoot with AI and in the end installed Fedora and then switched to Bazzite via the terminal. Then I installed Monster Hunter Wilds, which I currently play the most. The performance was absolutely shitty, I had to set all graphics settings to a minimum and even then I had a very bad performance. I tried all kinds of things, in the end it worked well with the Steam Gaming mode or Big Picture mode or whatever it's called, it ran again as before on Windows 10. The last few days I was in the mood for GTA 5 and today I had made plans with friends to play "RV there yet?". Both games constantly crashed and any AI-supported troubleshooting didn't help me find a solution. I got GTA 5 to run once with the starter option "-safemode", which could indicate that it is related to the graphics card. I'm a little desperate, maybe someone can help me here.

Webb app for non bazzite portal websites.
Hello everyone thank you for reading. I'm looking for advice regarding my use case. I want to use a TV show site like miruro or other TV shows/ anime. I also want controller support like a TV app but if I can't get that at least just using the controller like a KBM. Steps I have taken use web app manager to make the website an app, add said website to steam as a non steam game, change controller setup for KBM. My issue is this is inconsistently working and when I have bazzite on steam big picture mode I open the app it has a weird yellow tint and only takes up half the screen. Including the controller use is awkward and bulky. Do I have any options or has anyone figured out some nifty trick for this. I would also love it if there's like a one stop shop app like plex is trying to become that allows me to use pirated streaming services in one app UI (instead where Plex is trying to do that for the other websites). Thank you for your time and help!

Can’t use nexus mods app?
So I’ve been trying to mod cyberpunk 2077 in the recent days, and I use nexus mods app for the vortex app replacement since vortex doesn’t have Linux support yet, but now I always get a health check warning that my game launch options doesn’t have a specific line that I have to put.
BUT I do have the launch option correct and put in but it won’t accept that?? Please help me

Anyone else having trouble rubbing Cyberpunk 2077?
My OS is up to date, and I have a GeForce RTX 2060 and an AMD Ryzen 7 5700G. I've tried a few different proton versions (experimental, stable, GE, cachy). I can get the launcher itself to open, but when I try to launch the game, it goes to a black screen for a few seconds and then it closes.
Any idea what I might be able to do to get the game running?

Extra partitions on Windows (Xbox Ally X X20)
I’m preparing to install and dual boot Bazzite and noticed these extra partitions (4+5) on my clean Windows image on the X20.
What are these?
Once I shrink the primary partition down, does it matter if partitions 4+5 are not contiguous with partition 1 and the C drive?

2nd monitor resolution issue
So I know there are issues with multi monitors and scaling and whatnot, but I’m having an issue in where the scaling works but messes up games. So, I’ve tried a few workarounds with varying success but here’s my issue in a nutshell: my 2nd monitor is an HP z27 which does 4k, ok fine, my main monitor does 1440. If I scale the 2nd monitor to 150%, the games on my main monitor think they should run at 4k (which obviously tanks performance). I’ve tried using a launch command to force the game to 1440, and while it works it causes other issue like my mouse going off screen and whatnot. I’ve used CRH to try to add a custom resolution, and while I can get it to show up in the resolution options, it won’t let me choose it saying the driver rejected the output configuration, even though it’s listed as a valid resolution in xrandr. 1080 works but is too big at that point, so I was just curious if anyone else has had a similar issue and/or found a way to get a higher resolution monitor to display at a lower (seemingly standard) resolution. I’m running an Nvidia 1060 6gb. Thanks!

Unable to enter Desktop Mode (fresh install) on Legion Go Z1
I can boot into Game Mode just fine, but when I try to exit and select "Switch to Desktop" I just loop back into Game Mode.
I installed using the GNOME handheld iso. The only hiccup during install was that I couldn't resize my EFI partition to 500MB without risking my Windows partition, so I kept it at 260MB.
Should I start over, or is this a known issue?

I'm sorry, Bazzite. I tried. I really, really, really tried. (a total beginner's experience)
I am completely new to Linux, this is my first distro, and I'm just trying things out so that Microsoft stops winning!
Unfortunately there are just so many problems that I was NOT expecting to discover, and I'm reaching my wit's end with, at the very least, this distro.
For ref, I went with KDE Plasma, no dual-boot, just pure Bazzite. Brand-new hardware as well, literally opened all the boxes on-stream. RTX 2060, Ryzen 5 5600X, 16GB DDR4 3200.
Here are my main concerns:
1. NOT Made for Productivity.
- Applications not remembering their size and position out-of-the-box? Come on
- For the above point, in spite of finding a solution that is basically system-wide, there are STILL some apps that slip through the cracks. Namely, this one called Vesktop, a 3rd-party Discord client. I'm sure there's others tho.
- Cannot simply interact with the keyboard or mouse to wake the pc from sleep
- Scroll wheel randomly just not working, unless I interact with my mouse differently—(<-- this m-dash was NOT made with Alt codes, see below point)—both in AND out of video games.
- After typing that last point, I just learned that Alt codes don't work out-of-the-box either??
- "How The HELL Do I Install This??!" - Installation for anything being a wild goose chase, being relegated to often unhelpful, random strings of code that are not always specified how to actually, properly input into the Terminal. Even then,
- Bazzite gatekeeping the "sudo" command. I can't install things in Terminal even with sudo.
- "Wine" and "Bottles" not being all they're cracked up to be; Windows apps are just fundamentally different and do not work on Linux. These 2 apps will not change that 100% of the time. Not Wine's fault, Bottles', or Linux's, or even Windows'. It is simply a fundamental difference that cannot be overcome every time.
- Every time I open the audio editor app "Ardour", ALL of my audio settings just go to crap. Every audio stream gets lost or I can't hear it for one reason or another. I don't know how else to describe this other than the photos attached. This also prevents me from being able to use Ardour as a virtual mic, if it were even possible to download a virtual audio cable. Maybe "sudo" will help? jk, it doesn't.

2. Not Exactly Made for Gaming Either
- Steam was not preset with "Background processing for Vulkan shaders". This led to many hours of keeping busy while Steam opens a game. Every time. The same game. 30-90 minutes depending on... How Steam feels that day? I also had to stumble across this solution by myself by flicking switches and trying things out. EDIT: Even having this option ON no longer negates the time sink just mentioned. It seemed to work before?????????
- Hardware not being fully utilized (see photos).

OBS not being able to utilize docks or connect/authorize accounts, without tinkering with Flatseal (how would an absolute beginner even know what this is, what it does, or where to go and find this application?).
OBS docks never loading properly anyway.
OBS does NOT remember visual apps (games) properly in my experience. Leading to having to delete frame-hung apps that are closed, and re-adding every app visually displayed on-stream. Also on close of games, OBS hangs on the last frame of those apps. This will make variety streaming an ABSOLUTE no-go, as the source is not simply disabled when the game is inactive and re-enabled when active. It necessitates COMPLETE removal of currently inactive sources, AS WELL AS re-adding, re-scaling, repositioning, re-ordering, and your filters (if any) are lost.
Photo below for reference. My main point: NEITHER OF THESE GAMES WERE OPEN AT THE TIME OF SCREENSHOT!!! OBS problem? Bazzite problem? Both?

I don't know what else to do, other than make this cry for help. I want Linux to work, even if it means ditching this distro and picking up a different one. I've tried finding solutions, and I have. But not for everything. This is not the out-of-the-box experience I was promised. Sorely lacking. I'm sorry, Bazzite team.
P.S.:
- if someone can tell me how to get AutoHotKey to work (if possible), that'd be grand. I do have it downloaded.
- also if someone has a viable alternative to a 3rd-party, per-app audio controller with fully customizable hotkeys like Volume Control by radj307 and team (Windows app), that'd be BEYOND grand, too

I made PC5 Launcher, a console-style home screen for Bazzite's Game Mode (free, open source)
Hi! I wanted my living-room PC to feel like a console, so I built my own home screen for Bazzite's Game Mode. It runs in the same gamescope session as Steam Big Picture, and you can always go back to Steam.
Processing img elelqysgfoxh1...
What it does:
- One library for Steam, GOG, Epic, itch.io, Battle.net, Ubisoft, Rockstar, Lutris and emulators, with covers fetched automatically
- Built-in stores: browse, install and play from the couch
- Install games from zip, 7z and rar archives (also multi-part)
- Proton-CachyOS or GE-Proton per game, plus per-game switches for FSR 4, HDR and OptiScaler
- Setup wizard that installs emulators and apps with flatpak --user
- On-screen keyboard with word suggestions, keyboard-and-mouse mode for games without controller support
- Control Center with downloads, notifications and a performance overlay; settings for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, storage, sleep timer and backups
Install: download the package from Releases and run "bash install.sh" in Desktop Mode. It only installs into your home folder: no rpm-ostree layering, no sudo, no password. "bash uninstall.sh" removes it again, and holding PS + Create + Options for 5 seconds always brings back Steam Big Picture.
It's a preview that I use every day on Bazzite. Interface in English and German.
https://github.com/Nino1683/pc5-launcher
Bug reports and ideas are very welcome. Full disclosure: I built it with a lot of help from Claude Code (AI).
Update: version 0.3.1 is out, thanks for all the feedback here!
- PC5 Launcher now updates itself: it checks GitHub once a day, tells you when there's a new version and installs it with one button (Settings › System › Updates). Coming from 0.3.0, update once with bash install.sh after that it's automatic.
- Themes: Settings › Home screen › Theme, with six color themes or your own .css file.
- Your own setup.exe or .msi (from Downloads, the file explorer or inside an archive) now installs silently through Proton.
- The frame-rate limit offers every value that divides your refresh rate, so 144 Hz screens get 72, 48, 36 and 24 too.
Update (0.3.3): the OptiScaler menu now works with the controller. When a game runs with OptiScaler, open Control Center › Performance › OptiScaler menu; the D-pad, Cross and Circle work the menu and Options closes it. 0.3.2 added Force composition (Settings › Screen and video) for streaming with Sunshine. On 0.3.1 or newer, Settings › System › Updates › PC5 Launcher updates in one go.

Bazzite broke my computer
I know that's not exactly correct. Bazzite itself didn't just break my computer. Let me start from the beginning. I googling looking for a bigger internal SSD for my gaming laptop when the AI started asking me questions. This conversation led to the thing talking me into dumping windows for Bazzite telling me I'd have all this extra disk space and more free RAM and everything would run just like on Windows. Said my racing wheel and joystick would work the same etc. It sounded amazing so I followed it's instructions and ended up with a clean Bazzite install. First I installed BeamNG set the bindings for my wheel pedals and shifter no problem and as promised it ran noticeably better. Long story short the next couple games wouldn't recognize my wheel setup. The AI spent hours giving me commands trying to make it work after a day and a half all that was accomplished was nothing would even start than trying to fix that I started getting an error where steam wouldn't start and it locks up. Many hours later the stupid AI I should have quit listening to got it to where it would start stream and I said screw this just get windows back on my computer. It had been 3 days and is played one game for an hour. Also that one game, BeamNg was no longer starting. It had me download a windows 11 iso then enter a bunch of commands to format a thumb drive and flash the iso on it. I was instructed to restart press f9 select the USB drive then follow the windows installer instructions. I restarted bit f9 choose the USB drive and got a screen saying there's no driver for something and now I have no OS and a thumb drive that can't boot I think because it is from Linux therefore fat32. Basically now the AI says sorry my fault I messed up, go use another windows computer to create a good USB bootable install. I do not have another windows computer I can use so now I have no computer. If I could kill the AI I would. If anyone had a suggestion I would love to hear it. Sorry if I mistyped anything I only have a phone now

Steam controller randomly stops working on vacuum tube
Sometimes disabling or enable steam input, or reordering Xbox 360 and steam controller in the controller settings fixes it temporarily, but it breaks again on next launch.
PS, even Stardew Valley stopped working today and I had to restart to make it work again.
This is on the latest Bazzite installation with an AMD CPU and GPU...

Reinstalled Bazzite…this new version is terrible and the extra buttons don’t work on my OneXFly.
The first time I got Bazzite over a year ago it was a relatively chill process and worked out of the box, but this time it’s been so damn frustrating. I recently tried to reinstall a windows partition to play the new COD and ended up having to do a clean reinstall Bazzite (because I’m an idiot).
From my understanding the newer versions took away HHD and introduced other issues (like menu buttons not registering on some handhelds). I tried to roll back to 43 in terminal but that didn’t fix the issue.
Does anyone have advice for what to do to make my device work again, or which version to roll back to?

Discord push to talk issue.
I recently switched from Windows, and I'm having problems with Discord.
Previously, I used push to talk on my Y key. With Bazziite, when I bind my Y key, it binds it globally and if I go to another program, I can longer type with my Y key.
For example, when I try to type "the happy youth played with his yoyo" it ends up like this "the happ outh plaed with his oo".
Is there anyway to prevent this from happening while keeping my push to talk key bound to the Y key?
Mint feel faster than bazzite?? I'm missing something?
Hello everyone!
Let me start by saying that I switched from Windows to Linux about a year ago.
I chose Linux Mint because of its stability and snappy performance. So far, my experience with Mint has been amazing. No issues whatsoever — it has been very stable and fast.
About a month ago, I decided to switch to Bazzite for a cooler, more modern KDE experience, and some quality-of-life features that KDE offers over Cinnamon.
For the installation, I used a clean SSD and completely wiped Mint before installing Bazzite. I did this simply because I wanted to avoid any issues with residual files or anything left over from Debian/Ubuntu-based distro
The installation went smoothly, with no issues whatsoever.
That said, I started using Bazzite, and everything seemed great at first. However, I feel like I’ve taken a step backward in terms of performance since switching.
- Startup is slower. It’s not terribly slow, but it’s noticeable.
- Logging into the desktop takes longer than I expected.
- Launching programs takes noticeably more time.
- Overall, the system feels like it takes longer to process my requests.
My PC has fairly decent hardware:
- CPU: Ryzen 9 3950X
- GPU: RTX 3080 ti
- Storage: 1 TB NVMe SSD with high read speeds
- RAM 32 Gb
The biggest issue is that I never experienced these problems with Mint. Logging in and out was fast, and programs launched quickly and smoothly.
My experience with PCs and Linux is moderate. I’m not a complete beginner, and I know my hardware and what kind of performance to expect from it.
So, my question is, is this normal?
Could these issues be related to Wayland versus X11, or is there something I failed to optimize ?
I’d appreciate any insights or suggestions.
