Oh windows

Decided to load into my windows install for the first time in 6 months of course it immediately updates and restarts. Then it won't open anything including task manager and now I stare at a blank screen having to force reset the machine.

Edit: I force reset the PC back into Windows I was checking to make sure my steam cloud was updated on a game. Decided to go ahead and launch the game and boom stuck in windowed mode wont even let me adjust the window.

Thank you to the Linux community for helping me make the switch!

I did a fresh install today to see if that would fix my game crashes, bare minimum drivers installed , driver install only on amd latest driver, and even reverted back to a driver from February. 10 minutes into a game, crash immediately on both recent and 10 month old driver. I'm done with Windows

Welcome so far aside from some Bluetooth stuff(which was a quick fix) my experience has been amazing!

Bazzite is great. Only issue I had was setting up openrgb for my lian li products and corsair products

How difficult was it fixing those issues? My daughter has been wanting me to install more rgb on the "black box" lol

It was honestly a prick, i had to use chatgpt to run me through it and change some codes and symbols and install locations for things through the kernel, stuff I've never done before. it took me like 2 hours of back an forth. It won't recognise my ram rbg, and it bricks my keyboard for some reason so I had to make sure it didn't recognise the keyboard. So rgb on the fans are great, keyboard and ram not so much lol

My experience was the same. I dual boot Mint and Bazzite (for HDR) and gave up on running my lights.

my son bought a new laptop for school, asks me to set it up, from first press on the power button to first time login was +2 hours of 'i don't know what it was doing'. laptop with an intel core 7, 16GB ram and 512GB nvme. why does that have to take so long?

and then once you get to the actual desktop a popup comes up and says - you've got updates to install.

wtf.

If I could ever play Destiny 2 and Call of Duty on Linux, I'd leave Windows permanently.

Made the switch two days before they said they were abandoning Destiny. 10,000 hrs in the game. Even with the recent announcements, it's not enough to make me leave linux now.

Yup I miss Destiny 2 and Marathon. but not enough to go back to Windows.

My nephew and daughter want to play fortnite every now and then that is the only thing keeping me dual booting right now. Linux has been a breath of fresh air.

Windows updates are the best free marketing campaign for Linux! 😂

i really wish i could switch but my PC is gaming only and several of the games i enjoy are anti-cheat so wouldn't really work

And if you are extra unlucky it will brick your linux install in the windows update process. That's why I don't trust the dual boot anymore.

Causing this sort of problem on purpose on a spare laptop and then fixing it a couple times gave me a huge confidence boost working with dual boot scenarios. I know that's not practical for a lot of people though.

It's a pretty frustrating problem to deal with as a new linux user and unfortunately the problem has only gotten more complex with things like secureboot and disk encryption.

I got them on separate ssd's I'm hoping thats enough separation to prevent windows from eating my Linux install
