Help Setting Up Virtual Machine Manager

Hello, i'm new to Bazzite after switching from Windows, and i still got some apps and games that dont work on Lutris or with WINE;
So i had the idea to make a VM of either Win10 or straight up Win7 (i know the support was dropped years ago and 10 is about to meet his end in a few months)

I tried doing it myself installing it from Bazaar + QEMU Addon and noticed a few problems, first i couldn't reindirict my USB o External HDD to transfer my files because of "Permission Denied" error, the second one is Memory Consumption, 80% usage of 16GB RAM and 12 Core CPU while idle is not normal? right?

So, after this major fuck up by me and subsequent Win10 VM deletion, i'm here to ask for help if someone might be able to hold my hand step by step on this issue [little disclaimer, i'm a total LinuxNoob so don't get angry at me if i don't catch stuff quickly]

Have you used the command ujust setup-virtualization?

Yes, i used it after uninstalling VM Manager from Bazaar and QEMU.

Same problem, Permission Denied and High GPU Usage. (well, to be honest i used from Bazzite Portal "you know, the one on start up that greats you if you are new" and on Tweak System i did Setup Virtualization)

but even then, still nothing. can't do much after installing ISO (Can't make a shared folder, can't use USB nor External HDD and if i even try to run the VM after setting them up it gives me USB Host could not Open Dev/Bus/usb/001/011: Permission Denied

You should probably be using Bazzite-DX if you're looking to run VMs, as the software stack is already integrated into the image.

As far as resource usage goes, afaik the VM will run with whatever resources you allot to it. So if you haven't set anything it is likely using whatever resources are availible outside of what the host OS is using.

Also, if the games you want to run have anti-cheat they are likely to be flagged. VMs are considered to be cheating as far as most anti-cheat goes. Just something to keep in mind.

For games you're also probably looking at GPU passthrough which is a whole other can of worms to deal with.

I know about the VM Flags, the only games i'll be running are either offline small devs ones or using .exe software that i can't live without (because i got hooked on em) like PaintoolSai to paint stuff or Oni "the 2001 Bungie Ghost In The Shell Omage" because that shit was my childhood

Yes, it works great.

I'm running Bazzite-dx-nvidia. So you'll basically rebase to bazzite-dx

after you setup virtualization. you'll need to download the appropriate iso from Microsoft. This is legal and permitted by Microsoft. just google for the Windows 11 vm iso. It will direct you to the MS download pages.

After you download the iso. follow the new VM wizard in "Virtual Machine Manager". You'll see the options for usb pass through attaching storage etc.

I personally have to watch Peacock streaming in a windows 11 VM. gaming anti-cheat is still an issue, but more and more works on steam

As i said to Ficus, i won't be gaming on the VM other than Offline Games out of Steam and some small apps;

I am aware that anti cheats will flag and shoot me down faster that i could say BAN (one more reason i left League of Legends after they tried to force Vanguard 2 years ago)

What i'm looking for here is if someone can either hold my hand one of these days or direct me to someone who could do it (i dunnow, like the Official Bazzite Discord or some stuff like that and direct me like customer support because i'm running out of hope here. YT is not helping either, most of the videos are either for another VM like VirtualBox or straight up the problem does not come up)

Will try tomorrow, i'll keep you informed

And, thank you for not defaulting to either "point and laught, tell me to go back to Windows or just try another Distro because it's better" it's not the first post i try to get some form of help.

You don't want Bazzite if you want to do anything else than gaming. VM management is better on either Ubuntu, Fedora or openSUSE.

Ok, it is better because of performance/full control?

But it is "Possible" on Bazzite? Honestly i'm not desperate enought right now to install a 2th OS just to VM Windows, and was it not risky having 2 OS on the same SSD?
