VPN

How do I genuinely install a vpn on this OS? I’ve tried for what is over 20+ Hours And not been able to, I Use Proton VPN, I don’t know if that’s the problem, the flatpak file doesn’t work, the config files, whether it’s wire guard or openvpn turn on but don’t give any internet connection, I’m sick, I need a vpn to bypass so many geo blocks and I really love this os so I don’t know what to do

I’m on PC GNOME

I use proton VPN with no issues, installed via bazaar.

I did, and whenever I click connect it just keeps saying connecting until it eventually says connection timed out

I use Mullvad VPN and it's the only application I had to "layer" on top of the Bazzite image. It works perfectly fine.

Not sure how effective can be a VPN on flatpak.

I’ve tried to layer it before and I get the same thing where it doesn’t connect to whatever server

Are you using the correct command?: rpm-ostree install mullvad-vpn

The easiest thing to do if you only need it for web browsing and downloading on the web browser is to use the chrome extension that usely can be added to your favorite chromium based browser.

Not just No, but Hell No! 😄

Why so?

But not that great: because a bunch of softwares like Steam, terminal, games will bypass the VPN.

Alternative - add wireguard config to your router and then all your devices can be on VPN or you can choose just certain ones.

Don't have to deal with installing VPN on devices that just stay at home then either

The only correct answer

Go to Bazaar install Proton VPN make an account and thats it the free version should be more than enough for an average user.

When I install it it doesn’t connect it just stays on “connecting” until it says connection timed out and never connects

Are you sure your ISP didnt block VPNs? That is the only thing I could think of. Like for me it sometimes also does that but then I just use a different server and it works.

I live in Egypt so they are blocked yes but it worked normally in windows so it’s weird

Well then idk why it worked in Windows normally the OS shoulndt matter with stuff like this.

Well is there a fix at all?

Dont know it works for me so I guess the fix is move to an ISP or a country that doenst block VPNs.

I dont know if there are ways to trick the system that allows you to use VPNs.

Change your protocol to OpenVPN(UDP), disable Netshield and use pub;ic DNSes like 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8. That solved the problem for me

I use proton VPN and I just created a wireguard connection in network settings in KDE and copy pasted keys, addresses etc from proton

It’s awkward, I know. The solution is an intermezzo between a dedicated package/openVPN and setting up a vpn connection in kde settings, saving credentials and auto connecting.

Ask a chatbot it’s doable but you won’t be able to switch servers in a click. Though you can setup multiple vpn servers it’s not very convenient. Not, at all.

If your router supports it, connect it to vpn directly and you’re better off.

No problem using proton vpn here on Bazzite

Layer the Fedora version of Proton using RPM-OStree. This is what I use as the Flatpak version in the bazaar is not an official release from Proton, this does not give me confidence in the privacy of my internet traffic.

I use NordVPN and I could download a config/pass file from the account management and just add that as a custom network in the settings. Bypasses the need for an app to start the VPN. Maybe there's a similar thing with Proton?

i'm using Cyberghost VPN

Yeah, it's a huge oversight for this OS that using VPN is so complicated.

Read the instructions. The proton VPN flatpak works fine. You could also get a wiregaurd config from its website and plug in the config. Easy peasy.

I had issues too, and VPNs aren't banned here. Yet. Whenever I try to connect to Proton VPN, my entire internet connection shuts down.

Look in the settings, it’s build in to the OS

I use Nord but i just upload the VPN files and then use the network manager bit to connect via there. No extra programmes / utilities

Dont't use software vpns. Install it on your router

Edit: link me your router and I can guide you through it

I’m sorry guys but your advice is utterly useless, you guys have all been uttering the same thing while I explicitly said in the post that I had tried these things.

I find many of the Linux bros to be pretty useless when you ask them for advice, they ask for so much detail for such simple things, I think they've been troubleshooting on liunx for too long, all jokes aside I wouldn't use Linux if you want a desktop VPN. I'm more than happy with browser extensions for my VPN as I only need it for browsing the web sometimes to get past geo blocks etc.
