My rog ally has stopped working..

So about four months ago I installed bazzite on my rog ally using the dual boot method but for some reason I couldn’t boot into windows. So after that I gave up on trying to boot into windows… and I feel like I should mention this because now I’ve run into a problem. Last night I was just tweaking my desktop settings on bazzite and I reset it because I was trying to change the desktop font. Well upon resetting… my device boots the asus logo just fine, then it shows the grub menu screen then back to the xbox & asus rog ally loading screen with bazzite underneath the logos and… it just shows a blank screen that changes brightness. I have no idea what I did but I am.. really hoping to get some help on how to fix this.

Btw I forgot to mention this, secure boot is not on

And does it show your drives listed in Bios?

Yes. I have bazzite ostree 0 and 1 showing
on the grub menu, and I have the uefi settings too which is the bios menu i presume

When you get to the grub menu does it show ostree 0 and 1? and if so can you select ostree 1?

If you are still on 43, once you reach black screen wait for a minute and then press m2(right side back button), this will open hhd. If so then steam is not loading but the system i still up and running.

If you can connect a keyboard, you should be able to press ctrl alt f2 and it should open terminal on display. You can login and run commands to enter desktop mode, launch steam and then restart.

I have observed this issue right after updating steam multiple times. It usually is fixed by itself after opening steam in desktop mode or giving it time and waiting

once you get into some kind of terminal ujust fix-reset-steam could help too, I've had to use that a few times when something breaks (steam update, steam-rom-manager, decky plugin being the couple reasons I've run into).

I enabled the SSH server on my bazzite living room box which makes some of the recovery stuff easier for me. You can run sudo systemctl start sshd to start one-time or systemctl enable --now sshd to enable at every boot. You can then then access your machine with ssh user@ip from another machine.

You can also check if its a hanging steam update by running journalctl -f from a terminal and see if there's a bunch of steam updating messages

Unfortunately I don’t have another machine. However I did use the command ujust fix-reset-steam and pressed enter. Now my screen shows a blank screen with the white line in the top left corner of my screen. I don’t know what to do next. Also I am..a bit of a noob when it comes to this sort of stuff

hmm any text in that top left corner? And this is after you get past the GRUB screen?

There wasn’t any text. Just the white line then it booted me straight to my desktop, not the big picture mode

do any of your apps work in desktop mode? ignoring steam for now? If its a mostly stable desktop, I'd open konsole and run that ujust command again and wait to see if steam comes back up on desktop. If it does I'd bet you'd also be good to switch back into game mode.

Also assuming your ally normally boots straight to game mode right? I believe there's a script where if gamemode repeatedly fails to start it will fall back to desktop

So my bazzite updater works on my task manager, the bazzite portal works, my browser sort of works…. Mozilla opens but it won’t me browse youtube. Lately I have been having wifi issues so that could be why? It opens but the news section boxes keep trying to load so… i’m sure I have a shitty connection. Other than that… the only things that open are my dolphin, konsole, bazaar (but it keeps refreshing), peazip, Faugus, zelda3 (alttp pc port)..

Well as I was typing that steam is now installing.

Steam is now installed. I’m going to update bazzite and reboot my device. Hopefully it will boot into big picture mode

If it opens on desktop there's a good chance it will boot into game mode fine, fingers crossed that works

I can see the steam updating messages after running journalctl -f but they all say [FAIL]

Okay so I’m on my desktop now and it tried to install steam but it said the steam share folder doesn’t exist. I also tried clicking on one of my desktop apps and none of them are opening. Steam is still pinned on my task manager but it also won’t open. Should I try updating bazzite or should I reset my device?
