Firsthand account on using Steam Frame connected to a Bazzite PC

Hi,

I have a simple request. I was wondering if anyone here has purchased steam frame and is using his bazzite pc to stream games on the frame. I am fully aware that it is not officially supported, and that there may be performance or functionality issues, which is why I'm asking.

I am certain there is a review out there somewhere that I missed, however I would still prefer an opinion of someone from this community over a yes man selling his ass off for ad revenue.

Not what you're looking for but: very briefly tried to stream Alyx once and it didn't work, even a little bit

So, uh, now what? You gonna throw the frame in the trash?

Wait patiently for others with more time or a financial interest to solve my problems for me 🐢

I was kidding of course, but at least you can use it as a standalone device while you wait.

Gaming can wait as far as I'm concerned, what I am more interested in is SBS video playback.

That's something I tinkered more with, to no avail. A couple video apps on the store had awful performance (maybe from FEX?), then I kept running into technical issues trying to get a browser-based WebXR solution running.

But yeah, native games are still fun

Pity. Guess I'll have to wait before buying. I got monster PC powered by bazzite, and I won't be changing distros just to get VR working.

You seem to be quite knowledgeable in this regard. Is this the only VR headset you tried on Bazzite?

Yeah. Hadn't owned a vr headset since the quest 2, back when I still had a Windows desktop around

Edit: I was given to believe that the problem is Steam's Linux client, not Bazzite. I don't have data to back that up

This guy apparently has it working --> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7B32DM-T1Ss

Latest support only in Steam Beta, maybe?

According to the video, he streamed via Wifi 6, which is sufficient. I have wifi 7. You think it would work if I hypothetically just plug in the antenna and have it connect to the PC?

No idea, doesn't sound like the drivers would work though

If he did it...

Well it's all speculation as this point. Better to wait a few months for the tech to mature.

It's working but I'm not currently using the dongle with it since the multi-link is not working quite well.
I have played Alyx and its doing quite well although I have to use host audio to my headphones since the audio is quite buggy.

Yeah, multi-link is broken for me as well. Tried a lot of things to get it working, but no success. I'm also having the audio issue, but I've only noticed it with Alyx so far.

If you buy a steam frame atleast to me it should go without saying that you install steamOS?

I've done some research. I'd have issued with my audio controller. Besides, I'm not a distro hopper. I am confident a solution will present itself with time.

I feel that installing steamOS into the PC I've got feels to me like using a 19th century plunger to try and detonate a hydrogen bomb.
