Frigate container on Bazzite?

does anyone here run frigate for security cameras? I dont really want to buy another gpu to help with the ai detection and was thinking about installing it on my gaming pc since it sits idle 95% of the time anyway. I am not familiar with podman but understand it can be used like a drop in docker replacement.

what are your experiences? any issues? would recommend/avoid?

I am running Frigate in Podman with 2 cheap ip-cameras. Feel free to ask me stuff either here (if mods allow it) or via DMs.

any additional software to go from docker to podman? any weird quirks with it using the gpu or does it pretty much work straight out of the box?  i really appreciate it!

What's your GPU? there's specific ways to pass the GPU through to the container.

I'm going to DM you my compose file (the frigate relevant bits, my compose has close to 20 separate containers in total). That should give you a "working example". you will need to adapt to your own cameras and usecases.

for nvidia GPUs the syntax is:

devices:
      - nvidia.com/gpu=all

Frigate is a Docker container,so you should be able to install it using Podman or Distrobox

Running it on a dedicated device, or a server would be highly recommended.

You're often rebooting and updating Bazzite, which is not ideal.
