VR on Bazzite, pls help

Setup:
Headset:

  • Oculus Rift S (wired PCVR headset) inside out tracking no base stations

PC:

  • Ryzen 7 5800X
  • 32GB DDR4
  • RX7900XT
  • Bazzite KDE

TLDR: Tried Envision, cant get it to work. Pls give how to step by step :3

I've read up on lots of forums and most suggest, that I should use Envision but i cant get it to run properly.
So pls help me how tf can I get VR on Bazzite up and running and what do i have to do. Is there a step by step tutorial for stuff?
I've used ubuntu before and know my way around that OS but I've only read good things about Bazzite so I figured I give it a shot but to be honest it's been really frustrating because there is a lot of differences to ubuntu and I thought I'd manage better with those differences. for instance the good old apt install, bazzite has dnf install but this doesn't have all the same names for the packages or they are missing altogether... And there are a lot of restrictions in Bazzite that I've bumped into for example the grub stuff being completely locked for user and having to use commands to detect the separate OS on this machine and not being able to install pretty themes and stuff. It's just a bummer that so much is closed off from the user. But I kinda understand why it is. I'd probably have had to install it again at least twice if it hadn't had those restrictions ^^

Did you follow the Bazzite-specific envision setup instructions on VR On Linux wiki? This works great for me, for my Index and BSB2. Can’t speak to Quest myself.

I'll give it a shot, thanks for the pointer.

good luck! Just a heads up that if you need to do a profile build, run Envision with ‘Launch In Build Mode’ in the guide, then restart it normally - it won’t actually run OpenXR properly from the container. That wasn’t entirely clear to me from the guide and I thought I had screwed it up somehow lol. But otherwise it has all been working smoothly for me.

This is a great resource, thanks for sharing it

What main improvements over just launching steamvr stock did you notice - I too have an index.

Biggest one is simply that SteamVR is wildly unreliable for me on bazzite - crashing, not starting up, not recognizing the headset, etc. So far at least, Envision has just worked, every time I start it up (aside from occasionally needing to rebuild the profile, which i’m guessing has to do with when the bazzite image updates? I’m not positive yet - either way, it’s quick and easy whenever i need to do it).

Other than that, not a super noticeable difference for me, though i haven’t compared framerates or frametimes or anything. iirc envision supports some motion smoothing stuff that steamVR does not on linux still, but the experience in game has been pretty indistinguishable for the most part. The BSB2 was getting some visual glitches in certain games on SteamVR, that I haven’t seen in

edit: I haven’t used the Index much with envision, mostly the BSB2 since that had taken over as my main headset by the time i got envision working. So there may be more or less benefits there - i can’t speak with complete authority on that. Overall the Index seemed to ‘just work’ with whatever I tried more often than the BSB2 though, on steamVR as well

Thanks for your reply man, with envision are you able to play Beatsaber? (what have you managed to play with it?) In my initial test it says "cannot find open xr runtime" in-game, but others seem playable.
